Yo how good has my upload schedule been lately, though? Check out all the details on the Tim Henson's Signature and Scott LePage's Custom Fishman Fluence pickups bit.ly/3mTCOrk
Honestly for me the tones aren't anymore special than other fluency sets. I don't hear the nylon voicing that they are marketing. Just sounds like a really nice paf neck tone. Those "negatives" aside they do sound really good. The single coil voicings seem much better than on any other fluence sets.
😂😂😂 nylon voicing ... Damn man the ibanez is a clone of the godin multiac ... The pickup are just piezo the signature pickup are for the ivanez electric model
I liked both of the sets, but Scott’s set was way more up my alley. Now, I just need a more modern guitar that I won’t mind routing a battery holder into. I already love active systems in my basses. Just never really liked anything for guitar. Until now.
Same; I was set on Tim's---cause fanboy-- but afterother demos; Scott's fit me waaay more. Plus with the tones I lean towards Tim's end up squealing in a way I don't really like. Was pronounced in a few demos I saw. Depends on the player.
Agree - somewhere else I heard an in-depth review of both and Scott's set sounded more 'for me' in terms of playing (mainly clean) but it's 2023 and the idea of having to change batteries seems a little 1970's . . . I recently bought a K. Yairi steel string acoustic that was designed for 30 second battery changes so maybe if the right electric came along would reconsider. I have a Sadowsky NYC S Style and an old Parker Fly and switching batteries involves unscrewing back plates . . . I just don't use the active pre-amp option in the Sadowsky (which is fine) and only use the Parker if I really need that sound for a recording. 😀
If you have an LP or a Strat, Fishman make a rechargeable battery pack that replaces the control cavity plate -- they also have a stand alone one you can rout a space for into the cavity plate.
@@XaleManix Thank you! I’m still just gonna get something like a used EVH Wolfgang to mod/route/etc. All of my guitars are 50’s and 60’s reissue Gibson’s and Fenders. I need something to have fun with.
I think if you loaded them on a super strat with a gotoh style trem, itd probably sound a lil different, but very cool hearing them in a LP body with a 3-way!!
The Devin Townsend pickups have crazy versatility too. Classic EMG sound, beautiful tele-y tone, and a PAFish sound. Henson’s classic HB voice 1 really nails it in comparison to the Transcendence voice 3 but Townsend’s 81ish vibe+kiiiilllller passive SC tone in one pickup is wildly impressive to me. Different pus, different focuses, different construction. Not sure about these Hensons but I know Townsend’s have a blade and polepieces and a degaussed magnet for the more PAFy sound.
Couldn't justify installing them in any of my current guitars so I went ahead an ordered Tims sig. Probably a decent wait on it still but it'll be well worth it when they do finally get to shipping them out
@@NobotyBoi They've been super delayed in manufacturing/shipping the new Tim Henson signature guitars. I didn't want to install the pickups in a guitar that was near the same price as the pickups lmao
@@SlyRyFry Yeah I passed on getting the TOD10. The backlog and delays are insane. Some guy in Australia just got one off the Production line he ordered 6 months ago. I got a very good deal on a THBB10 and it was brand new. Got it a few days ago. I Love Ibanez and They are the Go-To company for custom guitars. However I think they dropped the ball here. I think they seriously underestimated the demand and how much clout and influence Tim has in the guitar world. I have another older but still decent electric which I may put Tim's signature Fluence pickups in. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other Guitar in the world that is back-ordered ? (Not including TOD10n)
@@Rabid-Polyphia-Fan Pretty much every new ibanez is for sure, I just asked my sales rep at sweetwater. Definitely nothing wrong with getting just the pickups though. Just in my case the only guitar with humbuckers I have has so many problems along with it costing nearly as much as the upgrade itself it wouldn't be worth it. I would love a thbb10 if I could find a good price for one, but I have enough guitars to hold me over until the tod10 ships. My next guitar is a waiting game on the 8 string tod10 or Adam Jones custom flying V if they ever decide to put that into production. The 8 string tod10's are pretty much confirmed along with 7 strings and more variants on the 6 string tod10 though. Pretty sure it's gonna be this generations jem guitars so no worries on getting a variant of it
Not gonna lie, the Tim Henson neck pickup just sounds like a DiMarzio PAF Pro in voicing 1 and 3. Voicing 2 sounds like a PAF Pro with a capacitor to roll off some of the top end. Great sound but can be had in a much cheaper pickup.
I think I like the Will Addler or the Classic better than these pickups. But that's just my opinion. The real issue is . . . WHEN IS YOUR HB SIGNATURE DROPPING??? lol I can't wait to get my hands on one.
The Adlers are still my absolute favorite of all time, nothing beats them on chug but gotta admit Henson’s set is super versatile. And I dunnooooo man, HB keeps dragging their feet it’s stupid annoying. I THINK they’re in production but honestly not sure 🙃🙃
I have these pups in a Jackson I modded. The Nylon sound can be more pronounced with a heavy compression pedal in front of a clean amp. Add a little clean boost in front as well and it's pretty similar to what they market. Pups are great though. One of my favorite Fishman sets to date
It was supposed to be shell pink but the factory messed up 😂 I wasn’t actually sure about the color at first it kind of works well in white. Might do a smol run eventually… Just trying to get any production out at the moment lol
Hey Hunter! Is the high-gain voicing (1) good enough for the chugga-chugga we love? Or should I forget about this pickup for really heavy chugging? I like the versatility but I really need the chugging. Your high-gain sounds were great but still sliiightly mushy, or is it my impression?
Try the "nylon" voicing with the acoustic/piezo amp in NDSP Petrucci and you can really hear it. Doesn't really sound like a piezo, but gets a lot closer than any other magnetic pickup I know of...
My pickups from Jim Wagner Pickups (Formerly WCR Pickups) crush! Jim Wagner is a guy a lot of the big players come to for pickups. He used to re-wind pickups for big artists. I know a few super big A-List players who use his pickups with other stickers on them to protect their endorsement deals.
I have that nylon Tim Henson TOD guitar, and I really can’t imagine them being able to make pick ups that can sound like this guitar with nylon strings. It’s close. But those strings have a really distinctive sound that I gotta imagine is hard to replicate. The Tim Henson pickups voiced to sound like nylon, actually sounds exactly like my piezo does on my JazzMaster Acoustasonic. That’s a lot what that pick up sounded like.
Not a big fan of Polyphia, though I very much respect their musical talents... The pickups, however seem quite pleasant and offering a high level of versatility. Or perhaps it's your epic style of playing in this demo. Great skills man... Well done indeed! Blessings to you and your family, - Trey🙏✨🌞
That's not even close to how nylon or piezo sound. I'm better off with 2 split humbuckers together in the middle position with an EQ pedal for that tone. If you really want that full range tone you should look up Cycfi Research pickups - they sound bright like a steel string acoustic piezo (not nylon). Loved the demo and the tones otherwise and the pickups themselves do sound great. :)
Would be crazy if someone put one tim henson pickup in and another Fishman fluence In cause it would be dope to mix two completely random Fishman pickups
I thought they sounded amazing. Gonna have to pick up a set But I agree you expect a little more flash from Tim. But for me, it comes down to sound over beauty .
What all comes in the box? New pots? I'm getting a mulit scale 7 string from Ormsby and they said these pickups wouldn't work. I'll pay my luther for passive to active work done.
Nylon my butt, it sounds nothing like a nylon string guitar. It's probably just the humbucker in parallel and marketed this way to sell units to whoever falls for it.
I would have like to seen an A/B comparison of your pickups vs the polyphia pickup. I doubt there would have been very little difference. Tone is always in the speaker.
I love polyphia, but I will never understand the appeal to Fishmans. They just sound like generic active pickups and generic passive pickups to me. It's cool that you can have both I guess, but I think passive pickups with a gain boost is the best option. Also, that nylon setting sounds nothing like a nylon, or piezo for that matter. Maybe through Tim Hensons pulgin, these sound amazing, but I think I'll stick to my passive emgs. The hz line of pickups have to be my favorites by far. Love your videos, but I don't understand how these are game changing
Hey bud, Will you Plz get a set of Seymour Duncan "Zepyhr" pickup's? These super special order pickups are hand wound with pure silver wire. Please make this a 30 min. video... P.S. If I won the lottery I would have Black Winter pickups with silver wire...
I think I know this demo track already 🤔 this has been on the channel before, right? Or am I going insane?! Great one! Not really sold on those "Nylon" sounds though.
Yeahhh I was kind of hoping it would sound more “nylon-y” but it’s a nice super clean sound. Good ear, it’s a reworked version of the TriAmp MKIII track
Let's get a little bit technical here. Does anyone actually know what makes "high end" copper wound poles attached to a magnet different from other copper wound poles attached to a magnet?. I am a believer that all of this is placebo...
I seriously hate the pickups in my SG Prophecy, I got a pair of pearly gates to replace them, active pickups are junk to me, P90s or humbuckers are for me.
For shits and giggles I put, Fishman Fluence Killswitch Engage pickups in my very underrated Ibanez AS73, and now it sounds way better, than a $8.000 freezer burnt Gibson Custom 1959 ES-355 Reissue! (It sounded better before and after the installment anyway. LMAO) Awesome Vids Bro!🤘
At this point I’m so over signature pickups. I’ve tried and heard so many different pickups and at the end of the day, they don’t really do much more than standard-production pickups.
are polyphia really that original? they always seemed like a pop version of stuff like chon. Doesn't sound anything like a nylon string to me. Maybe better than a piezo though?
They definitely don't sound too cool to me unless Tim's style of music is played with them. Which makes me think they're just a "one trick pony' set of pickups and aren't as versatile as I'd originally thought.
Hunter! Watching you use that big @ss drill was horrifying! Please get a manual Ream! You can increase the diameter of any control hole gradually and wont risk splitting the wood out on the other side.
TLDR; yes, but pickups that are engendered differently sound fundamentally diffrent (ie: humbucker/piazo ect.) and having one that can switch between all three main styles is awesome and something that should be more popular. For massive differences in sound quality speaker swapping is the way to go but it dosent mean much if the pickups in your guitar don’t have enough clarity (especially when playing chords) to make the speaker sound as good as it should, and having a pickup that can go between H - S DOES have a big tone difference, same if your taking about piazo pickup tones. When it comes to swapping diff hum-buckers and or diff single coils with a pickup of the same configuration, that’s when you barely get much of a difference. So I do agree, but I think that having a pickup that can alter its sound fundamentally so it can present tonal quality’s from pups that are engendered differently is pretty game changing indeed. Imo i don’t really like them very much, but I think the new voicing options are really cool
okay Glenn. There's more to a signal chain than the speakers fyi. I have 3 different cabs they sound great and can be used with any guitar. Pickups can only be used with one guitar.
Man just do a test for sustain sometimes 😂 .... how can we have an advice if you dont test the 3 basics ... sustain attack and saturation( which is not only gain to max )
