I was 8mo into my recovery with anorexia when I became pregnant. My Dr. knew and helped me so much. I did “blind”weigh ins for the first 20 weeks, until I felt ready. Becoming pregnant actually helped me heal so much- mentally. I started to think more about my babys needs and what I needed to do to help bring her healthy into this world. By the time she was born I had established a healthy relationship with food. Wishing Trisha the best.

I was about to meet a nutritionnist for binge eating when I got pregnant. Baby came with acid reflux so I couldnt binge. I've start eating regular meal and more carbs without feeling ashamed and actually eat more intuitively. Baby help me understand so much about what wasn't working.

It’s important to note that checking weight at each appointment is more than just baby’s growth. An symptom of preeclampsia is rapid weight gain in short amount of time (like a week) and checking weight alerts providers of this. I found that stepping backwards from the scale helped & asking the nurse or provider to not mention my numbers.

I started off 10lbs overweight when I got pregnant and didn't start gaining weight until the 2nd trimester but people kept telling me how big I was pretty much my whole pregnancy. I only gained about 18lbs through the whole pregnancy eating intuitively (low-carb *not keto* at the end due to gestational diabetes) but people where constantly asking me if I was carrying twins or was further along than I said I was. It was pretty upsetting but if I had an ED or disordered eating issues on top of it all it would have been devastating.

My FAVORITE afternoon gestational diabetes snack was graham crackers or pretzel sticks with peanut butter and berries and cream at night. I just had to be conscious of the total number of carbs I was eating per meal, lots of veggies and meat every day 😅

I think recommending opting out of weight checks at prenatal visits should be discussed with the PCP, especially since rapid weight gain is often a sign of preeclampsia. Perhaps asking for the weight to not be shared is a better option than to just opt out of being weighed.

@@julierichardson284 Exactly, although I did get weighed for my blood test screening for some reason - it wasn't with my usual midwife and I saw I had gained 5kg since my last appointment and I just hated looking at it, that was a month ago and I'm still thinking about it to this day. I'm not overreating and I'm working out safely, I don't get it sometimes :/ I'd ask my midwife not to tell me but like the weight number is right infront of you :(
@nini-qc1qd
@nini-qc1qd 2 года назад
@@auroraf7337 hey, med student here! Eat healthy and exercise, walk a lot etc. I know it's hard but don't worry about the weight gain (it should not be very rapid though)...hormones fluctuate a lot during this time so weight gain/loss can occur. Obviously, talk to your doctor regarding this and I'm sure they'll tell you in case something needs to be addressed. Please do not stress out, everything will be fine! One more advice- try engaging in more intellectually stimulating activities (could be anything- from movies to books, physics lectures to history of art...literally anything). You'll learn something new, it'll take your mind off things and obviously it's good for the baby! Congratulations and best of luck, I hope you have a wonderful time!:)

That is what I did! When i got onto the scales I just looked away, and discussed my ED past with my midwife... She didn't share the weight with me, and I made it a point to NOT LOOK. it worked. I knew i had to ensure not having an ED slip back, because I was growing a little baby... NO TIME TO MESS AROUND.

Also for new moms, if you are sick or super nauseas… you eat what you can to get by. I’m currently 10 weeks and at the beginning ALL I could keep down was mashed potatoes, saltines, mandarins oranges and lemon head candies. I was so upset because I was worried I was nourishing my baby so I called my Ob. She told me “girl, breathe. It is okay.” Your baby will pull nutrients from what your body already has stored up. If you can’t keep down a salad at the beginning, eat what you can keep down. Take your prenatal, you and baby will be just fine. ♥️

Thank you for talking about this part of pregnancy. I recently had a baby and struggled with an eating disorder prior to getting pregnant. As you can guess, it didn’t get better, but evolved once the nausea started. On top of all of it, the pregnancy was not planned and I was quite upset about it. Lack of control + existing disordered eating isn’t a great combo. The body changes after a baby are tough to process too, so I recommend therapy! I have a counselor now, and wish I would have pursued it during the pregnancy. Abbey, I love that you talk about this…with the obsession of diet culture, this has to be more common than we think. ❤️✌️

I have been obese for a few years now (always been overweight). While I was pregnant the doctor let me check my weight at home instead of weighing myself there, and that helped for me. I felt like I was more in control doing it that way, and I've had two healthy babies :) Gained 12 kgs in my first pregnancy and 20 kgs in my second - but my doctor said it was fine since my babies was measuring to be big, and they were!

I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my first and can confirm being pregnant with a recovered Ed and still having body dysmorphia... Is HARD. I never wanted to get pregnant, however I thought that if I did I would be paranoid about everything and eat only organic healthy stuff. Well once I went through first trimester nausea and lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks cause I couldn't eat anything, I felt so bad for baby. Luckily I regained appetite and gained that back. But I constantly have to remind myself the weight I'm gaining (only 6lbs so far) is ok because it's supposed to happen, unlike my previous cyclic habits of eating trash for 2 weeks and then over-correcting by obsessively eating super healthy stuff for months after.

Don’t worry if you don’t gain a lot of weight, as long as the baby and uterus grow well!! I am 26 weeks pregnant, lost almost 20 pounds and am now back at my previous weight. I was a healthy weight before. Baby is doing great and uterus is growing enough too! It’s just hard for me to eat more without it being chocolate, cake and icecream 😂

@@SleepyMamaBear- luckily baby and uterus are growing perfectly! My friend lost 20lbs first trimester and gained it all back and more after 18 weeks. It's incredible how a baby will take the nutrition it needs regardless of appetite loss/sickness. I just never could've mentally prepared for these changes and new stressors. Oh girl I can get down on those sweets.. lately milk and Oreos. It's weird cause I never liked sweets before but when I was 7 weeks, I had a taste of it and I've had sweet tooth bad since then.

It's crazy how things change. Pregnancy is so hard regardless of having to think about all the different things to eat/not eat. I hope Trisha is able to manage her relationship with food, because I've been there. Wishing her the very best x

Seriously, I can’t imagine being told my weight gain during pregnancy was too much. I gained almost 50 lbs while pregnant, which is considered high…. But I was weight lifting 6 days a week, riding about 60 miles a week on my bike, and walking about 10,000 steps a day while pregnant.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with that! I gained “excessive weight” in all my pregnancies, and not once did my medical team say anything about it. I can’t imagine having “you’re gaining too much weight!” hanging over my head on top of the stress of all the dietary restrictions, physical discomfort, and feeling like I’d body-swapped with a hippo. 😬

Yup, my doctor made sure to talk me my weight was too high and possibly going to cause a more complicated birth.. well the first 2 months I lost 30lbs due to extreme morning sickness and then gained that back by the end of pregnancy at birth... yet everytime I gained weight I was gaining to fast or not to gain more etc. I was like excuse me, I get weight is important but after not being able to eat for 2.5 months and only started gaining weight around 20 week.. and gave birth at 41 weeks I think I did okay. 😅 I'm in canada for reference

I'm pregnant right now with my second baby (technically third, but the second one ended in miscarriage). With my first, I was in the middle of a full-blown eating disorder.. I would either starve myself or binge and purge. Obviously I couldn't starve myself because I was pregnant and soo hungry.. but I didn't want to be purging while pregnant because I didn't want to harm my baby. But I didn't heal from my disordered eating, so I just binged all the time. I ended up gaining 80lbs during that pregnancy. I have since overcome a lot of my struggles with eating disorders, but I do often weigh myself to make sure I'm not gaining too much. I don't restrict or anything like that, but I also want to make sure I don't gain so much weight this time. It's really so sad the mental grip eating disorders can have on you. Even when you're no longer restricting/starving or binging and purging, you can still have unhealthy thoughts or fears about gaining weight.

My ED definitely came in when pregnant as I was so worried about getting GD I cut out a lot of stuff. I lost weight whilst pregnant and my baby was born small. No one picked up on the fact my diet was disordered and no one asked about my food history. I don't think I picked up on it till my daughter was born as I justified it as 'keeping baby safe'. Luckily my daughter is now a healthy 10 month old but we did have breastfeeding issues and I do wonder if my disordered eating affected my milk supply.

This! I was super depressed and started restricting heavily in early pregnancy and because I am a tall woman, and heavier than many women because of that the OB never once mentioned the fact I wasn’t gaining. In fact she said because I was “ overweight” ( I wasn’t) it was good that I didn’t start gaining weight until the middle of my second trimester. Baby was a pound smaller and inch shorter than my other kiddos and I too had a super hard time with nursing initially.

Food rules have definitely negatively impacted my disordered eating. When I was a teenager I discovered I had a wheat allergy. Back then gluten free products were scarce and also disgusting, so I didn't seem to have a lot of issues sticking to it. But as time went on and better products came out, I found myself binging on GF treats whenever they were available to me. Eventually when I started my family I had gestational diabetes with each pregnancy. I was always really strict with my diet in order to keep my babies healthy, but as soon as they were out I ate Everything I could. I remember after my last baby standing in my kitchen and I had to have eaten half a jar of Nutella by the spoonful

About pregnancy and seafood. Most of western doctors would recommend pregnant women stay away from seafood. However recently I watched this south Korean lady eating seafood ( sashimi sushi particularly) while she was pregnant with her first baby. And from her vlogs, she had eaten sashimi sushi and assort of seafood regularly during her pregnancy. She stated that her doctor gave her nod to have seafood as long as they are fresh. It’s always interesting to know the completely opposite opinions from medical professionals.

It seems a bit difficult to pasteurize your own juices at home (it'd need to be heated to at least 165 deg F to kill listeria, and listeria can survive being frozen). Your best bet is to probably be careful to wash your vegetables/fruits before you prepare them and to keep an eye out for any lettuce recalls.

I recently found out I was pregnant (unfortunately not keeping it bc I have a history of impulsive suicide attempts, with urges and self-harming coming back ) and I can say that being pregnant with an ED is awful. I got pregnant at a bmi of 16.4 and I had binge eating tendencies depending on what happened around me and how hard I restricted. Being pregnant has been a nightmare for my ED as it has trigger my binge aspects. Ik my diet of lots of carbs and quite a bit of junk food is not good but ik I need to be kind to myself when it comes to this. Although you usually don't have to gain lots of weight in your first trimester I unfortunately would have to gain a lot of weight over all. I stopped restricting myself to 1400 and let myself eat a normal amount about 4-3 weeks ago and I feel sm better physically but when worse mentally. I won't weigh myself because I am too scared, but I have to remind myself that I actually haven't gained fat (my measurements are the same, even my 22 inch waist) and it's just bloating and milk in my boobs (they're so big on my body now, only thing I am happy about). I really wish trisha the best
