I know my V-8 Silverado loses about 1/2 range when I tow my 18' lowboy trailer. Interestingly, it loses about the same range when the trailer is empty as when it is full. Of course it has 6' ramps which stick straight up to give plenty of wind resistance.

Sorry for your bad experience with Lucid. I too bought a 2022, but my experience has been very positive. No interior build problems at all. The OTA updates, quickly took care of the software issues. I've got over 20k miles on it, road trips from Maine to Miami, all without problems. The long range allows us to relax and enjoy the car, only charging when we also need a longer break so no travel time lost. Our only complaint is about Electrify America network and the general lack of charging infrastructure in the USA.

Agree with you. I’ve owned an Ioniq 5 Limited AWD, and it was a great car. More recently, after my Audi e-tron was declared a total loss, I test drove the GV60 Performance, and in my view, it’s one of the best EVs on the market for its (heavily discounted) price. Super luxurious, very fast, corners decently, nice steering feel, and a ton of features, including the super fast charging of the entire ePMG platform vehicle fleet, the massage driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, etc. I ended up leasing a newTesla Model 3, but only because despite the steep discount I was offered on the GV60, it was still almost double the monthly payment to lease it than the Model 3 was, and the new Model 3 is a massive improvement over the old one, and is really nice to drive.

I got me a Chevrolet Blazer EV, and I love it. I hope I don't have issues with the car. I understand, and I think you got it at the worst time, and that was GM's fault. They should it test it a lot before putting it out for sale. Fisker just filed for bankruptcy.

I really hope Edmunds hangs on to theirs for a while and gives GM a chance to make it right. I'd be curious as to if they can and, if so, how long that takes. Don't get a lot of content like that, it's either never an issue like with the Mach E, or it's broken for ever like the R1T tonneau cover.

I have high hopes for Chevrolet EV's in the future. I have had a BoltEV for 5 years now and really like it. I especially like the aggressive regen and the paddle behind the left side of the steering wheel that gives even more regen. The only thing I don't like is the slow DC fast charging speed, but I don't have to do that often as I usually charge at home.

I agree. I think the timing is playing a huge role in their dislike of it. I got mine the week after the stop sale was lifted and have had 0 issues. I expect some hiccups being that it's a first year production model though. I don't think Edmunds is giving it a fair chance. They should see if GM will swap it for another Blazer EV. Maybe they truly just got a dud which can happen with any product.

I know, right? Wife and I bought a Chevy Blazer EV a month ago. Love it. Feels like all of the issues they had, they've ironed out. I kinda feel like some of the 23-24 year models in this review haven't had a chance to fully bake yet. I feel like there's a legit threshold, where you purchased your Blazer EV before/during Spring 2024 you went through some pain, but afterwards its a different story. Also, other Blazer EV owners correct me here if necessary, but we test drove a few, had owned a gas-powered 2019 Blazer, and we chose the rear-wheel drive version over the AWD version, it felt sportier and drove better.

Good video. No question that the Model Y has improved dramatically suspension wise since the version you had, and I think if you had a 2023 or 2024, you wouldn’t have had the same conclusion. Also agree that it’s unfortunate you don’t have any of the Hyundai Motor Group vehicles in your fleet. How about getting an Ioniq 5 N added to the fleet? Still, you’ve clearly invested a ton of money in this EV fleet as it is, and that in itself is very impressive.

I see lots of articles with the title “Living with electric cars”. The immediate impression is that it’s like “Living with cancer”. As if having an electric car is a disease which you just have to deal with. I have a 12 year old electric car that has 117K miles in it, and it has never failed to move when I press the ‘go’ pedal. I never go to a gas station or have to negotiate with a mechanic to decide on what of the many problems I have the time and money to address. It has never had the drive train or brakes worked on. I don’t have to do a smog check or deal with a check engine light. How about an article on “Living with a gas car”?

Thank you for this long term BEV review! The Mach-E has a recall on its battery pack contactors fusing closed. On a traditional golf cart BEV the physical contactors taking the form of relays are an emergency disconnect in series with FET technology transistors that can fail fully on causing the vehicle to go full throttle with no shutoff. A lot of Mach-E owners have complained of software driven aspects of the car becoming troublesome after six months. Touch screen malfunctions . . . What has happened to kill new Mach-E sales is the Tesla model Y has come down in price so much that for a little more sacrifice a month than a Mach-E people can have Tesla Model Y that does everything better with a long prospect of some retained value. They are both compact crossover SUVs with the Model Y being signifiantly better handling. The rough ride of the Model Y has an aftermarket retrofit from suspension performance firm. The retrofit has much better ride with better handling and less body roll. The trade off is likely less payload weight capacity. An SUV is a bit of a truck. The Mach-E with every upgrade kit and a super low used car price with a known DIY service ability might make for a reliable 3rd car. BEVs don't make for universal primary-use used cars because those buyers likely don't have at home charging, living in apartments and houses with on street parking. Even as a 3rd car a BEV has a charging issue because it is likely parking at the curb rather the prized spots in the garage or driveway where the homeowner can have charging hookups. That makes BEVs have much more of a fall in value than an ICE car when trying to be resold as a primary-use used car. Another issue is current BEVs have poor cold weather battery chemistry that benefits greatly from being stored in a garage typical of upper level luxury cars. Teslas appear to have an industrial life span in that they will never likely fall or rust apart with the ability to be fixed with difficulty and expense. That being said the main Tesla models are compacts models Y and 3 without the refined driving characteristics of a BMW i5 or or the roomy interior for four large adults with high comfort, fantastic ride and good drive of the Ford Lighting long range pickup. BEVs are not good economical buys at this point of early adoption. For the car enthusiast the Tesla Model S Plaid track package for a daily driver and occasional track day is very attractive and actually looks like a buy at about $100,000 as high as that is. At this time CATL has announced its new condensed BEV battery with 500 Wh/kg energy/mass density almost twice the current commercial BEV battery energy/mass density. Stating it should be in production for automotive use by the end of 2024. Its primary target market is aviation propulsion which would allow a price per kWh of storage many times what is commercially viable for the automotive market.

Now it is maybe $5k less. So at that price, it is lots less than a Rivian. Both have pros and cons, my point is the Lariat is pretty high priced. A well featured XLT is plenty worth it. But it is a full sized truck to drive around. Good for minor towing. Plenty of power and fun to drive for the cost. I don't want to spend $80k on a vehicle. Around City traffic, a smaller Rivian would be easier to park and drive. Spending over $100k on any vehicle is very selective. I am happier at $60k.

Weird hearing a comparison between the R1T and lightning being looks (subjective) and price (misleading). Market value of the launch edition was well over 100k when those were out. Rivian even tried to raise the price at the start. And looks? The rivian look is polarizing as well. I like how both look. You say the good thing about the lightning is that it is just a truck but then looks boring. The bmw looks boring as do the Teslas. Prices for the Rivian now are comparable or higher than a lightning. 80s for a dual motor large pack.

There's a Fisker Ocean near me for under $28 grand. I think if it worked most of the time it'd be perfect for my mom. Good range, same size as her Sorento, fun but not scary fast and handling. Just don't know if it'd last without issues for long. It's not like either of her Kias were without issues, she's never had a bug free car, I think she's cursed; BUT she could take those Kias and Neons and other to any mechanic to get them at least running if not fixed.

I own a ford Mach e and a Tesla y and I did have to change the shocks to teins to get that comfortable ride. Cost me 600 bucks and have it set to ten clicks in the front and 12 in the rear. Rides like a dream now Surprised you didn’t mention the mustang Mach e ride which is, imo, as bad or worse than the Tesla Y with the factory shocks. I feel like I’m really screwed with the ford because there isn’t a “budget solution” to fix the ride like there is with the Tesla.

I'm happy with the speed of the M3P but more is always welcome haha. I've spent plenty of seat time in a rented Y LR and I didn't encounter any of the issues you talked about, but this one had the 20" wheels and I thought the ride was decent. However, being used to the driving dynamics of my M3P, I could not help but notice the Y felt clumsy and awkward in comparison. I came away from my 3 day stint with it realizing I would never want to own one. My bro in law had a Mach E dual motor for a year and it bricked...Ford ended up buying it back. FWIW and YMMV.

Disappointed with the limited coverage of electric vehicles. Of the 10 best selling EV vehicles in Canada you only touched on 3. With the exception of the Tesla you missed all the best sellers, such as the Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, VW and Audi. For future testing why not check the top seller EV list and purchase those models. Not that it is worth anything when comparing vehicles other than I know two people that bought the Ford Lightening and both have got rid of them with nothing but complaints. One has a Rivian and so far very happy with the vehicle. Other waiting for the Chev electric pickup.

@@Tommytwotone762 But your Model S at least has a speedometer (and other things) display in front of the driver. For the majority of older people that wear glasses, having a display out of our straight-ahead vision is a bad thing. Tesla's reasoning for not using anything but a display screen (giant cellphone): you can do everything you need to here, and "pretty soon" our cars will offer FSD and you won't need to look a display. The real reason: a big touchscreen display is much cheaper than knobs, switches, and displays. Especially if you have to buy them from someone else.

I keep suggesting to car journalists from the US you need to come visit us in Mexico where Chinese companies now have over 10% of the market and growing, and especially focus on what the leaders (like BYD, MG, JAC, Geeley) are doing even if it’s just a bunch of test drives. The BYD dolphin is around US $20,000 here not $10,000 like in China but you’d be amazed what these little electric city cars can do for the $$.
