In this video, I'm joined by J. Warner Wallace to discuss his latest book "The Truth in True Crime" which argues that investigating death surprisingly supports a biblical view of the world.

I served as a infantryman in Afghan 2009. Im now Catholic. Something I grapple with is not my actions, but the joy and overzealous feelings I had while in combat. Im almost a total pacifist now but I will never forget that I was able to take myself to those feelings. It's very humbling to know that about myself.

This talk was informative and should be edifying for any skeptic of Christianity. I gleaned the most important information from about the last 45 minutes. Thank you, to both of you. May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always. ✨💖💪✝️🕊️💖✨

I have zero interest in "true crime" but I'm glad I watched this anyway! I particularly enjoyed the discussion around identity, etc. Lots of food for thought there.

The issue for me is the concern doesn’t start with pride or humble. The issue starts with do I have sufficient evidence to think this is true. And if you don’t think you do it isn’t prideful to not be convinced.

What I enjoy about these True Crime shows is perpetrator's get caught. My criminal experience's where I've been murdered and brought back to life, were enacted by cops, lawyers, politicians, fireman, ER Dr's. This community protects each other & when I got got gang r****** at the police chiefs house they dried to murder me yet I survived. I have devastating body diseases & breakdowns from all the Drs cops & lawyers who have done permanent damage I live with every day. I'm bedridden from these criminal acts & Drs are protecting each other. I live alone in my bed, in a diaper throwing up in a trash can. This happened at 30 yrs old. I like True Crime because there is justice usually. 🙇‍♀️

I appreciate the advice, though I would push back a little bit in one spot. Wallace talks about the motives of sex, money, and power. While I agree that those are common motives, and sometimes they are used for corruption (though not always), I don't think it is helpful to say that if you fall on one you are more likely to fall on the others. If someone accidentally has an inappropriate lustful thought that is *vastly* different than murdering people. If you over emphasize the slippery slope, it will be a self-fulfilling prophesy. Someone will make a small mistake and, well, now they are on the path to murder. We should be emphasizing more that yes, they made a mistake, but they can learn from it to do better

Person of Interest and Cold Case Christianity are both great books by this man, as well. Person of Interest really blew me away. I think it’s about time I re-read it, actually.

I know you’re probably only here to mine content (you do you), but Jim actually shares good life advice earlier on in the stream that’s worth listening to and considering. Cheers.

@@CapturingChristianity I’m here because I was curious how this conversation would go. I’m at peace with whatever you might think of my motivations. His life advice is pretty run-of-the-mill Christian stuff, but I find his pivot in style and self-promotion to be pretty interesting. I may or may not talk about this as a side project, but this has been tiresome to me for a long time and produces very low views. If I wanted to mine, I’d go to one that was less played out. I hope you see the point of my math. Except for that one slip-up, the backstory part of the conversation was the same vague tap dance.

I, too, am a curious person. I looked through your channel just now to see what you might mean by “very low views” since the last I checked, they received about 40k each. First, you might mean “low relative to my other content.” But this is false. As it turns out, the initial JWW video you produced (with ~40k views) is in the top 40% of your content in terms of performance (I calculated this by determining how many videos have less views-it turns out you’ve produced 176 videos of the 296 that have performed worse). Secondly, you might mean, “near the lowest amount of views I get.” But this is also false. The difference between your top performing video and the lowest performing video are ~164k and less than 1k respectively. However, 40k is obviously a lot higher than 1k. (In fact, lots of creators in this space would be quite happy with 40k views.) Thirdly, you might mean that it gets very low views relative to your latest or most recent content (say, in the last 2 years). That’s also not true. You’ve produced roughly 76 videos in the last 2 years, and 22 of those have performed worse than the videos with JWW. So either (i) you mean something very strange by “very low views,” or (ii) the claim is false. Which makes your inclusion of it “pretty interesting.”

Should christians be watching true crime ? Whats your thoughts?

It's not bad to watch it. It's bad when you want to act on a feeling to kill because of temptations. Thou shalt not kill

Good question. I feel very uneasy watching them. Same reason I don't watch horror movies. To me it opens the door to evil.
@jendoe9436

Probably depends on the person. Some are very sensitive to such material and should avoid it for their own peace of mind. Some can recognize the fallenness of such actions without opening themselves up to something bad. Then there’s the ones who enjoy the material too much and can’t see the poor souls behind their desire for entertainment. That’s why I tend to focus on true crime content where the creator/reader focuses instead on the victims and uses the story to encourage compassion, help, or caution for the consumer. Sometimes true crime can also bring to light issues like corruption, collusion, incompetence, differences in treatment, mental health awareness, warning signs, etc. That type of material I find helpful because it makes me conscious of my own actions and feelings, and reminds me to pray more sincerely for such souls. Though I don’t go for the very graphic material, unless it’s relayed in a more clinical fashion. I also focus more on crimes concerning adults, as I get too distressed hearing crimes done against children. 😢

There are many sad things in this video, but "Don't be your real self", given as genuine advice, has to be the saddest thing I've heard EVER from an excusologist. Don't be your real self, do like JWW do: be a fake for jesus... oh dear...

How many public atheists discuss their backstory at all? Not really interested but there seem to be different standards being applied
@encounteringjack5699
@encounteringjack5699 5 дней назад
The difference is that Mr. Wallace is a former cold-case detective, and this is what led to his Christian faith. Everyone else just uses supposed divine intervention or basic critical thinking skills. But he applies a whole system of finding the source of the matter. However similar or better that maybe to the average Christian. Or atheist when deducing that Christianity is not worth believing in.
