2:07 Life is better when you are doing stuff. This is complete wisdom. I am 58 and my original plan was to sell my land subdivision project (that I built from scratch for the last 15 years), put the money in the bank and ENJOY, but I discovered that (rest is Not the best) and life is better when you are doing stuff or building stuff. I can definitely feel your excitement, I felt it every time I visit a new location to buy and start over again, it is that gush of blood that pass through your veins and let you feel alive again, and YES, it is going to take a much less time and will be better than the first one as the learning curve is high. I can see you having a building company and working in the business of shipping-container-homes in your area or consulting people in other areas in the world, after all you are internationally known now. Greetings from Egypt.

Keep the container doors on. Use it for the back wall. So you can use it as a storage/ utility space. You can have the water filtration system, water heater, and electrical system (i.e. batteries, inverter, ect.). Also, save the window cutouts. You can put them on hinges above the window to make them into storm shutters/awnings.

I agree..seperate it with an interior wall(s,)..separate from the rest of the house, so all you have to do is open the doors to access the various systems that will go in there..filtration storage, electrical, etc..

Get rid of the container hardware. Hang your utilities off one of the ends. Layout your designs with 3" masking tape on the floor. You are going to insulate the inside, right? This reduces more square feet. And look at how many square feet of hallway you have. Way too much.

This is a really cool new project you guys are doing. I would recommend putting that shipping container where you want it before you start building. That shipping container will flex and twist a little bit when you move it and so you're risking the chance of buckling sheetrock and sheetrock seams and shattering windows when you move it and you need to keep in mind how much more heavy it's going to weigh with all of the new building material inside I hope you have that in mind for what type of equipment you're going to be able to get to move it

I had always wanted to leave a comment before but this is my first attempt. I've been watching for a couple of years and love you both and your process. When your age and newly married, my husband and I moved to another state, bought acreage, and a travel trailer, then lived in it while we built our home. We actually bought a high quality single wide mobile home, then added on to it, a family room, 2 bedrooms and a sunken living room. We also added a regular roof over the trailer and the addition. Note: I highly recommend the travel trailer to anyone doing a similar project....Anyway... THAT, was the best time of our lives! Like others, I was so glad to know "our relationship," with you did not end. It has been so much fun living precariously through you, on your journey....I wanted to make a suggestion as I am sure you must research ideas, along the way.... In designing a cabin this size...the programs about, "building tiny homes," has many floor plans with endless ideas that might be helpful. In my mind, I design one for myself and in watching each of their new builds, I make changes to my "dream design." Thank you for continuing "OUR journey." And a kiss for those adorable kids.

Guest cabin is a cool idea. You might want to consider a second smaller container to increase space. Also a wood stove (with a thick rather large door) will put out lots of heat, so much so it can chase you out of the cabin. Remember a wood stove needs air flow from bottom to exhaust and don't forget to use triple wall between the ceiling/wall. You will need a fire exit in your floor plan in the Master bedroom. I would put all the areas that use water together as close as possible. Add fire extinguishers and fire alarms are a must to have on site. You can always create a secondary lower room (mud room) to put your wood stove, as heat rises, just crack a window in the Master and more than enough heat will get back there. Great idea!! (Hugs to the kids) Stay healthy and be safe.

I guess it's not only a practical thing to have when friends and family are far away, but somehow I feel the need for you two perfectionists to take everything you learned and turn those mistakes you feel you made around in this build. Building and creating has become a lifestyle for you now so this works out great for those of us who draw peace from watching Spencer's style of building and placid personality. I figured it would be a guest house. I'm sure as the kids grow up they will use it as all of you for overflow or maybe homeschooling. It's probably too late for some suggestions since you guys film months in advance - but here goes. I saw a video the other day using stryofoam insulation on the walls specially made for conatiners (formed to fit in the grooves). And though I agree about having the door on the middle of the long side, I think you should either put in a double solid window door with another window the size one panel on one or both sides with the ability to open the doors outwards. Also, plan for a deck the full length of the container with a roof. I think you would really use it a lot when you have company so you can all spread out. Just some thoughts I had if I were doing this. I think it's better put more into a plan and not do it than to add it later and have to either redo parts or settle for less that how you want it. - like not putting the laundry where you wish it was instead of in the kitchen in your house. Looking forward to watching it take shape!

I don't know about the USA, but here in the UK we've been warned to be careful of 'cowboy' foam insulation companies. The stuff they use is unsafe, the way they spray it is also unsafe and they charge up to 3 times more than legitimate companies. So for many Brits it's still a way of insulation most are wary of. But we've been behind America for decades, so I don't see us changing over this now. We're a very tough people, but incredibly mistrustful and wary - a bit like a fox I guess. LOL!!

🦋 I am so excited for you guys and for myself because I get to watch this build. That little curly haired one is getting more precious by the moment. That was a precious moment when Spencer waved and the baby waved back to him from the playpen. Much love and many blessings upon that new home and all of you while you build it. It’ll be fun to see how the kids fit in this go round. 🍎🥥🫐

I really like your ideas for the guest cabin. as the living space is so limited have you thought about building a large decked ares for dining outside in the summer months you could have it part covered in case of rain , It would be a great place to sit with guests to have meals or just evening gathering. but my burning question is when is Beau going to be helping Spencer? she is so cute

It would be ideal to use the original doors of the container so that they can be opened and closed, allowing more light to enter the place, and put a small porch, to sit and have coffee or wine.

Hi Candida I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….🌹🌹

Think about putting a raised floor in so all of your plumbing and wiring and insulation is inside the container. That will make it much easier to move around and keep critters out of the underside. And you would still have PLENTY of head room for someone your height. And maybe even storage underneath the floor in places.

Great to see another interesting build. Spencer, I was just curious why you weren't using a chop saw for all of those cuts. It would literally "cut" your time in half. I've used one for many years building various metal buildings.
