I'm excited for you guys, I will miss Hawaii a little because it's nice to live vicariously through you guys(I live in Minnesota and it's quite cold here), but I can't wait to see what is next for you guys!! This video made me tear up even. Hopefully you guys end up in a place where you both have peace and happiness and everything you need in life. The openness you had with us in this video made me feel so close to you guys even though I have never gotten to meet you. Thank you for your honesty and just how amazing of people you are. When y'all look back on this part of your life, you'll appreciate the experience of having 'grown up' together in Hawaii. I was born and raised in South Alabama. My husband was born and raised just outside of Tallahassee, FL. We got married when I was 19 and he was 25. We started our family in Benton, Arkansas with family/friends being 8-12hrs away. It was hard but was 100% worth it. The experiences we had there brought us closer and taught us to depend on each other more. We're back in Mobile, AL now but my heart is still in Benton.

Abby----I totally understand how hard of a year it's been for you. While I can't say I was as far from family as you were when I lost a family member this year, I felt super isolated and separated from family when I had to come back to college after I lost my grandpa! Honestly, this timing seems to be perfect cause it’s the holidays (happy time) and you get to visit with family and really having those private conversations that are needed to determine your next location on where you’re living ♥️ I can totally relate to you on the mental health…. I’m proud of you and respect you so much for acknowledging it. Family is so important to me, just like for you, so being close to them, really helps out!! For both of them, they have been through a lot of changes since they started their lives together as husband and wife. Hawaii was one of the 1st places they have lived as a married couple. Settling into a routine and establishing friendships there, all those things you become attached to. But they have matured so much in such a short time period. It makes sense that they are looking to started a new chapter to prepare them for plans they have for her future. You both are in my prayers.

We are also from the Midwest (KC) and we totally understand the need to just have the extra people. You need to always feel connected and have a community no matter where you are. Being in China the past three years have been extremely difficult for us away from family, but we've made sure to create a family away from home which has made our life here just a tad easier on the holidays.

I was in the exact same situation as you guys! I got matched to an internship in Hawaii (Oahu) last year, and lived there, by myself and away from all of my family and friends, from July 2020 until July 2021. And I also had a family loss during my time there, that I felt very removed and isolated from. I moved back home after my internship ended, and I have been so much happier, even though Hawaii is beautiful and wonderful, and so fun! I don't regret my year, there, but even looking back on that year now, there are still a lot of feelings and emotions wrapped up in it. So thank you for sharing your thoughts and feeling on your experience there... It makes me feel less alone in it, and hopefully, if you see this, you feel validated in your feelings about it too. ☺️❤️

Just found your channel from your “shorts”. I’m also from the Midwest originally and lost my brother this year. My husband and I lived in California at the time and it was the hardest thing being away from family during that time. We recently moved back and it has given my heart so much peace. I’m from the Midwest too! I am from Nebraska , but moved to Tampa Florida on my own at 18 to attend a Bible college. I still live here 3 years later. I think living far from family really shows how strong you can be, but My husband and I are wanting to maybe start having kids soon too so it’s just hard when you’re far from family. I completely understand how you feel!

My husband and I lived in the Cayman Islands for almost two years and I felt every single thing Abby was saying when I was there. I always say it was the best and hardest season for me. My husband was like Matt, he would have lived there forever 😂. Praying for you guys as you transition back to the mainland. Praying for lots of family time and real community that you feel you’ve been lacking!

It seemed to me that Abby was not happy in Hawaii. It’s okay sometimes we do things out of our comfort zone and they are not what we expected! I’m glad you guys got to move to Hawaii as an experience! A lot of people don’t have that opportunity to do that :)

I recently moved to the big city for college after growing up in a small town my whole life and I am definitely feeling far from home. Years ago I tried to make RU-vid videos about my passions and it was great when almost noone watched cuz everyone watching had interest in the content, but once I started pushing over 100 viewers then the odd negative comment or criticism crept in and it could be nasty. I know the algorithms have changed so if anything it's harder to monetise now than it was back then, but particular in the early days you would be making content to entertain, essentially for free, and people could really hurt you with words. So I understood your pain there. See my way of improving my mental on that aspect was to walk away, so the fact you guys can keep going strong and have this huge channel and awesome community on here is inspiring to see. I'm sorry for your loss and separation, sounds like that was pretty hard too, but please know you guys are awesome, and you can always overcome. Sending love and on the plus side you'll be with family for Christmas so focus on that, enjoy and next year you'll be able to build on the lessons learnt here and now. Peace and love guys.

You guys are two beautiful souls no matter where you end up as long as you're together everything will be okay. As far as surfing goes we do have surfing in the United States on the coastline so you don't have to give up surfing and you don't have to give up family. Love y’all. I’m doing something similar so I can relate. Im 24 and I graduated college in may 2020 and moved out to Indiana for a job from Florida. This year has been so impactful, so much growth for me has occurred and I’ve knitted together a small little community and starting walking with God again which I am abundantly grateful and While I treasure this season of my life, living alone working all the time and being away from family and close friends has been really really hard. The whole starting over piece alone can really make you look twice at yourself in the mirror. So I understand and empathize with you guys because those emotions are real - we’re all just human. Thanks for sharing your story. Let’s continue to grow and learn more and more about ourselves.
