Hi friends! Hootie here!
.
Dad and I are officially backpackers now! I mean that's what you call yourself when you hike with all your stuff on your back..in a pack..right? 😋
.
For this short trip, we went to Henry W Coe State Park. We arrived after dark, set up camp with no issues, slept well through the night (mostly!), packed up the next morning and hiked the rest of the day before we left.
.
I tried to get some cool shots and angles while filming, so let me know what you'd like to see more of in the future! I'm having such a blast recording and editing these videos and I hope you're enjoying them too!
.
As always, thank you so much for watching and I'll catch you in my next video! ✌️

I agree with those who suggested a stellar jay for the birds! That tree definitely looked like a monster emerging from the ground, lol. Thanks for showing us interesting things along the trail. Looking forward to following you on the AT. 🥾⛰️🤗

TIP: When laying out your ground cloth (Tyvek), lay down on it before you pitch your tent to check for levelness, unseen rocks or sticks. Looks like a successful trip. Hike on!

Good to see you hiking! If I could offer a suggestion on your tent: keep the doors closed until after both poles are up and you're satisfied with the pitch. It's okay to open them to put the poles in, but close them afterwards. That tent (i have the 2p Pro) relies heavily on the geometry to be structurally sound, and leaving a door open changes the geometry. Not trying to be critical, and i don't really know exactly how you pitched it because you didn't show the whole thing,. Can't wait to see you on the AT - Hafa Adai!

I appreciate the suggestion! I'll admit my tent was a little lose in the top, so I will definitely keep this in mind next time!

Looks like a fun trip, and it's definitely good being able to set up camp in the dark. Those birds at the beginning look like Steller's Jays to me. And your tree monster had sort of a zombie (maybe The Last of Us) or Stranger Things vibe. Nature makes some cool stuff, that's for sure ✌️

Omg, I totally thought Stranger Things too! Haha how funny! It was such a fun trip and I can't wait to see what the AT has in store for us!

If you love birds I'd suggest the Merlin app I use it when I'm hiking sometimes to id the bird songs

Probably should try a few more difficult hikes to see if your dad can handle it. I've only done section hikes in NE and I can tell you for sure from MA to ME it is orders of magnitude more difficult than what you showed in this video.

I appreciate the advice, but we are confident that we can handle it. We'll start slow and steady. It's not a race for us. We'll also continue to prepare before we set out.
