I saw it Friday. I thought it was pretty good. Wish they stop motioned the sandworm and a few other things but overall really better than expected. Wayyyy to many storylines though. Especially loved the scene where the juice speaks about when he was alive in Spanish or something like that, very comedic. Also the left the cake in the rain was pretty well choreographed
personally i looooved Dafoe in it. He was one of the few actors I felt was truly just having fun -- while also not being bound by re-hashing a character they played 36 years ago
I think it felt a lot like a musical, where things get solved off screen a lot and focus more on character beats and emotions. I know the beetlejuice musical had a big cult following, so I figured they were trying to pull from that audience + in addition to fans of the original movie. I thought it was fun to watch, but definitely a little confusing; probably won't rewatch
I think the treehouse kid was the best storyline of the movie, could have easily done more with that. The corpse bride character was a dud, she added zero to the movie. A lot of buildup then just a fart sound. Having said that, I still liked it. It was fun even though it has flaws.
I had to watch a RU-vidr break down all the Easter eggs I missed: my fav was the cat 🐈⬛ lady in the waiting room for purgatory who got eaten to death 💀 by her own kitties
It looked to me that Yvonne was about to Yvonne-slap Shannon when he was explaining why he didn't like the movie. Haha, I know she never would but still. :)
The point about liking Tim Burton movies is definitely valid. I like some of his movies, but there's a lot of things he continually falls back on that I just don't get the appeal of. I don't know that I will re-watch it. Now, the one thing about waiting for streaming... I don't know that I would have finished the movie if I hadn't seen it in the cinema. At the very least, I would be distracting myself with my phone for large chunks of the movie had I seen it at home.
I personally enjoyed it. I thought the whole ex-wife story line was a well, none story. I thought they did a nice job in the fan service department unlike that last Alien movie.
I marked out so hard when the disco version of the song played at the beginning of the movie! Then I marked out harder when they set the climax of the film as a dance sequence to the entire original 7 minute long version of it! I couldn't stop smiling! Also, when the full name of the ghost was revealed, my friend and I burst out laughing because its the same name as a local reporter!
I don't need to see it to know it's going to be high on the pass factor for me. Tim Burton really should stop making movies at this point. That said if I hated the original film, this isn't going to change things.
I'm on Team Shannon on this. We saw the movie yesterday (Tuesday) and was completely let down. I was very disappointed and very confused. It made no sense in lots of the storyline.
