@@TravelwithGaryandAmika you are still alive then mate 🤣 I understand that your busy living life pal. I think you probs don’t really realise how many people like your channel. The Mrs and I loved our Sundays watching you and amika . Hope the little one and yourself are doing well mate
Top tip if rolling any paints - use big rollers for big areas and do it horizontally not vertically and thin the paint. And do several coats. Best finish iv seen this lad. Some shoddy stuff on YT in my opinion. Prep is everything too. Going to be putting my project on YT in the near future and have some really helpful stuff for folks 👌🏼
might be an idea to keep the roof white to help reflect heat in the summer + will help to keep the solar panels from overheating imho. Dark colours absorb the heat as you know Happy travels !
Hi Jon. I had thought about that however Most of the roof is covered with solar so that stops the heat hitting the roof anyway. Under that is 50mm insulation and 7mm closed cell foam will also help. Glass windows is where the heat will enter the van. Can't really avoid that.
Nice! Not sure I'll remove the bulkhead to be honest, I was only using my heater in the morning and beofre bed in -8 over winter. It will be silly to ruin that. I'm not that fussed about looking outside. I've got cameras and feet 😂😂😂
My husband and I did exactly that on a few cars/vans over the years. High Density sponge rollers give a great finish. As they do on furniture and doors. Just get the right amount in the roller and spread softly and evenly.
The only wrap I put on my car headlights was some clear colour-neutral Lamin-X that gave them a smooth clean protected surface without affecting colour, brightness or beam pattern.
Vans looking great! Some say im obsessed with my van, i say its just a hobby! Watching your vids makes me realise its a common theme! Hope the breakdown wasnt too disruptive? I try to tell my partner and kids the breakdowns are part of the adventure and helps them to practice improvising in unforeseen circumstances....no trips complete until the Rac flatbed turns up🫣 ATB Shane🤙
Van looks fabulous with the new paint work. 100% better than white. Better for stealth camping out in the wilds. Hope you get the van sorted tomorrow and have a wonderful time out exploring Europe. Safe Travels Both 🙏
Van is looking amazing, great colour especially in the sunlight. Well done. Hope all goes well 2moro and you get on your way. Can be a worry with a kiddo on board, but at least you have your little house with you and Amika is so adaptable, she's just awesome!
Ah thanks. Yeah we are fine here. Have been flat out day doing little jobs in the van. I'm a little impatience so frustrated but you can control what you cant control. Fingers crossed one of these garages can get me going tomorrow when they open ❤️
Very cool! I like the fact the van now blends in the surroundings. I had no idea that was feasible with a simple roller, I'll keep that in mind ;) Hope there wasn't any major problem with the van breaking down and you both made it to Germany.
That's a lot Marie. Came out really well. Yep still in France and stuck. Enjoying the local surroundings... Hopefully be mobile again tomorrow afternoon 🙏
The van looks excellent mucker, good for you, keep doing what you're doing. Love the colour too. One of the best things I did in my van was a flat folding double swivel seat, it really does make a huge difference to be fair.
Cheers Mucker G! Definitely better!! Aye still not sure about the swivel seats, quite happy with it how it is to be fair. When I was in scotland in sub zero ramps, everyone had heaters on and mine was only on when I woke up and beofre bed. I'd lose all of that work by opening up the cab. Who knows... Van builds never stop do they 😂
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika valid points mate, valid points.i keep saying my vans done and dusted..... And then I go on eBay or Amazon and off we go again. I'll hopefully bump into when your up here sometime, Scotland's not that big when you're out and about
The van looks good mate. I’m a squaddie so it’s good to see an ex squaddie doing well. I come across your channel a few months back and have been loving the content. I’m looking at getting either a crafter or sprinter xlwb to get out over Europe mate. That paint looks good. I’d certainly be happy with the finish. I hadn’t heard of the military paint and was looking towards raptor. How much did your job end up taking litreage wise? I’m an ex decorator and cringe when I see most videos on YT. You haven’t got a bad finish at all.
I flyeyed a headlight with no issues with output or mot. A few years of abuse there were a couple of marks in the product which was then picked as an advisory on the MOT, but the appearance of the product was nice.
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika I see this earlier.... looks like the sort of thing your looking for tinted ppf ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zxkjA3VZVgQ.html
Great video as usual, Stellplatz in Uberlingen, nice town with great ice cream for Amika 😊 Nice scenery and walks north around Hoechsten / Deggenhausen.
The van looks amazing. Hope you sorted the problem, and you wasn't stranded for too long. Amber lights look cool too. I'm looking forward to your next adventure. Love to you and Amika 💗💗💗
Remarkable transformation, I must admit that I had reservations about it from your last video, but I’m happy to admit that I was wrong! Enjoy Grindelwald, I loved the area, particularly the ravine walk many years ago.
Thanks a lot David. I was only going 2 ways, to do a half decent job or ruin and immaculate paint job 😂 I fancy that walk, although it's currently closed 😫
The van is brilliant, Gary. We can see better now how good a job you did. If ever I need my van painting I know where to go to. Also, the inside of the van is now looking bang tidy. You should be proper chuffed. Hopefully when you go back to Germany you'll do some great vids. I really enjoyed your trip there last year. Bessy regs-Kenny
Thanks a lot mate, it's all coming together. I'm still learning a lot as I go and no doubt many things will be done better as I learn but happy with it so far. Currently in France, Switzerland next then onto Germany via who knows where 😂 Cheers!!
I love the paint job Gary, proper job ❤ have fun on your trip ( I assume you had chance to change the colour on your log book before you went)? I hope the breakdown is nothing too serious. Our alternator went on the way down through France a few weeks ago, a real pain.
Cheers mate, truth be told the sun shoes up a few roller marks but I do think with the right conditions and patience I can get rid of them. I'm actually in Chamonix Mount Blanc, France at the mo, but "same same" as Switzerland. It's absolutely stunning mate!
Yeah it does. Although doesn't blend in at the garage I'm broken down at currently 😂 Aye the lights will make me stand out but that's for bad weather and winter etc (oh and to look cool AF)😂
So it happened lol I ordered 7 litres of paint and I went today a bought a sprayer from Screwfix, I will be getting van sorted and prepped over the next few weeks, weather dependant, and and if the weather is good I will be painting it myself, the wife didnt want me to paint with roller as didnt think I had the patience for doing it, now I have a sprayer so she will be planning on me painting the house lol
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika van has been prepped, door shuts painted, brought the painting forward and I will be doing this weekend, what colour did you do on the V5? Cheers
Never seen it done but I'm sure you could make the bulkhead bifolding so you can have best of both worlds spin seat and have it open or spin it back and close the door you could still bolt it for security.
Hi Gary, myself and my little lad Tomasz, absolutely love your videos! So we have sent you and Amika a gift to help you on your travels, Tomasz is 5 in July, and I hope to start taking him all around the UK & Europe as I think that is one of the best free educations out there. So it would be good to meet up one day in order to ask you a few things about safety etc. But in the meantime, can you help with a few questions I have about painting the Van? I am on the Paint4Trade site, did you use Matt or Satin please? and did you thin any of the first coats? And if you were to do it again, would there be anything you would do differently? Sorry for all the bloody questions. Keep doing what you are doing as you have inspired me to do the same with Tomasz.
Hi mate. Sorry I've missed this. Catching up on messages!!! Thank you for the gift! Very much appreciated! Taking him out and about will be brilliant. You will both enjoy that greatly. Yeah we can meet up at some point I'm sure. I used matt paint. No thinners. 3 coats and only a light sanding. I'd do nothing differently ❤️ Thanks and all the best. Sorry it took so long to reply!!!
Your van looks absolutely awesome, and I love the colour! I live in a coachbuilt minibus, loud green in colour, but you've inspired me to paint the bus in a similar colour, get me some offroad alloys and wheels, and create myself a battle bus lol!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

Your van looks amazing Gary, well done. May i give you a travel tip? When you go to Switserland....do not go to Grindelwald, but take the other valey to Lauterbrunnen. It's even more beautyfull. You can walk from Stechelberg to Lauterbrunnen and back, its amazing. Have fun in Switserland. Bay Ingrid
top o the notch job done there love that colour and ya got alexa too work in the van cant even get mine too work in me bungalow so dam excellent work ya done the garry
Hi mate. It's come out really well and honestly better than I thought I could manage. I reckon if I added another coat, then wet and dry it till its flat and add a final coat it would be an insane finish. But that said the slight roller effect looks pretty cool. Are you at vanlife fest in Shrewsbury, we can have a catch up
Looks Fab Gary. Even Mr W said so…. I would have put money on him saying “looks like primer” 😂 but I was wrong. If I’m honest though…. Don’t like the amber lights 🤔. Love how you just crack on with stuff.
Ah thanks a lot. Yep mot keen either to be honest. I think it's because of how Bright they are though. I only wanted little LEDs. The spots arrive tomorrow so I will fot them when home
looks great, I appreciate Im just mimicking other comments, just wanted to throw it out there. Is it worth keeping the top white where it is, some of the suns rays will be reflected making it marginally cooler. But I can completely understand if you choose otherwise, its a really great looking van. Interested in the cctv cameras you have, i checked the make from the video but they're wireless?
You’ve got a cracking tech setup, great idea with the lights and cameras. Be interested to get your view on exterior lights at some point 👍 Enjoy your trip to Germany, all the best, David 👍
Just fire an higher relay with the relay output on the sonoff relay board. As long as you have a decent supply wire going through the second relay(ie from battery fused) should be good to go.
@@TravelwithGaryandAmika thought that was the sonoff you had. Let’s call it the relay board you have. Then trigger a standard higher amperage automotive relay with your relay board
Just stumbled across your channel mate and I'm loving it! Great job with the van also. Loving the paint colour! What make paint is it? I will be painting mine at some point down the road as it's seen better days haha. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks mate. I've done more research and I can see its legal to tint them, and there is even sports cars with them tinted as standard. Nice! I'll look into this stuff. Cheers mate
Hi, the van looks great! I might copy this colour for my Vito. One question, did you buy Matt, Satin or Gloss? Presumably using the roller you get a better finish with a Matt or Satin?
hi gary i love the finish of the van , what is the finish of the body paint that you went with??? eg matt, satin or gloss??? thanks in advance buddy 👌👌
I'm inspired by your choice of paint colour, as I wrestled with olive green, raf blue or grey. Love your choice. No primer then? Did you thin the paint before applying with anything? How did you get into those little cracks between panels? I guess and wet and dry will do yo sand it. I just watched a video of a bloke using 30p sandblocks from poundsaver 😅.
Thanks for your inspiration. I was just about to spend £6k on a respray to make my Crafter a white van. This is perfect. How much paint did it take please?
I think the Paint job looks cool.... You have done a good job.... I have spent a lot of time in Bavaria, we did work with BMW.... There are a lot of nice Lakes in the area... One even has a Royal Palace on an Island..... But that is in the direction towards Austria not Switzerland, but worth a look.... Have a great trip, and don`t forget your spare Fan belt.......
