Nourishing Traditions Book: amzn.to/4bJ3oII
-------------------------------------------
Hi I'm Brian with Next Level Homestead. If this is your first time here... welcome! I'm glad you're here! If you're a longtime friend, welcome back!!
For most of my life I was a city boy, gardening in the suburbs. I was the first generation in my family to not grow up on a farm and somehow it was still there inside me. So now my wife Emilie, son Noah and I have moved to a small farm (at least it will be) and we're documenting our journey on this channel. Building gardens and chicken coops, buying a dairy cow and who knows what else lies in store. But we can't wait to take you with us!

I am dumbfounded at your art. Speechless. Most of us aren't as good at one thing, as you are brilliant at many! I'm drooling a bit! Any, on a different note....my husband and I lost a few pregnancies, and the worst was at 5 months when we actually held our little baby. So, yes, having Noah is a gift indeed. I don't say this to be bring on sadness at all. Like you said, I also believe things happen for a reason. And I am soooo happy for you two to have your son and to be such good parents to him.

Hi Peggy ~ I too have Crohn’s. Like you, I’ve tried diet and try to reduce my stress, but have had many surgeries for Crohn’s, Cancer, Lupus, and other illnesses, which came along after getting Cancer. I find being in the garden such an uplifting and healing process. It’s wonderful to hear you are 75 and still in the garden!😊 My parents are in their 70s and enjoy the garden as well. Being raised in a loving family who enjoys gardening, picking berries, and foraging for other natural foods has been a tremendous blessing. My brothers have passed it along to their children as well, and they love being outside. I think it’s very important for young people to have an active outlet, as their world revolves around tech and the online world. Fortunately, our extended family prefers an active lifestyle outside…making gardening, camping, and foraging a wonderful family experience! Many Blessings!🇨🇦

@@peggybreaux8973 Hi Peggy ~ So true…prayer is important. I don’t ask or demand an answer from the Lord as to “Why” - as challenges offer us opportunities to grow in our faith and closer to Him! My sister and I will both pass…My heart goes out to our parents and my sister’s 2 little ones, as they are both struggling. I remember my mother going through cancer…it’s brutal on children. I cannot imagine not having the Lord to confide in, as He gives me HOPE for a life everlasting beyond this one - where suffering is no longer…Amen! I wish you a wonderful week!😊 May the Lord Bless You and your Love Ones for years to come!🙏🏻

I'm an avid organic gardener in Zone 9 here in Texas on the Gulf Coast...I also ride horses, train dogs...basically out in the sun a lot! I'm 67 years young, with fair skin and red hair. I have NEVER worn sunscreen. My dermatologist (I go for annual skin checks) is totally baffled as to how/why I don't have wrinkly skin and/or cancer. I eat a very 'earthy diet'.... lots of veggies, fruits, EV olive oil, nuts, eggs.... very little manufactured food. I also don't eat a lot of meat (I do like sardines). ;-) I 1000% believe our food over the last 50 years has introduced the cancer, diabetes, and other diseases we see so much more of these days. Thank you for being willing to be open! Blessings from Texas! 🤠🤠🙏🙏🤠🤠

I feel the same thing about my home on only one acre. I love being at home and do go out when I need to. And being boring for me is so much nicer than all the DRAMA in the world today. I live a peaceful life taking care of my animals and gardening. I just finished converting an old portable carport frame into a shade room for my garden. It is covered with chicken wire for strength and can be covered with shade cloth when our low AZ desert becomes too hot and plastic in winter if I need it to be. My seedlings and young plants are now safe from birds and rabbits. I truly love my life.

FYI, not all of us can go without sunscreen, but there are much less toxic options. I burn easily. Lots of burns as a kid even wearing shirts at the beach (before there was sunscreen). I learned the hard way about overcast days and got a go to the burn unit burn where my legs turned black as a teen. Two yrs ago they took a chunk of my arm to malignant melanoma. My pale Irish and Norwegian skin can’t spend more than 15 mins without burning after 10 am in the summer. I think I may have been born a vampire or something! lol. So for those like me I encourage checking out sunscreens approved by the environmental working group, vs the drugstore stuff full of chemicals.

You definitely made the right choice on the roof. Not only is it the showstopper of the new homestead and the channel, but it also did a world of good for Brian's confidence and overcoming fears. My husband and I are also self employed and live & work together 24/7. Don't feel self-conscious about being a "boring" couple. We are too, mostly because we are task/goal oriented. When you have a true partnership that functions smoothly, that is its own kind of happiness. It provides the stable base we both crave so that we feel confident in occasionally stretching our limits.

I agree with you 100% . I never use Sun Screen either. I never really have.. We have a Freeze dryer and Dehydrator Love them. We only cool the house with a evaporative Cooler, We grew up with them. The same with my grandparents and my husbands family. Growing your own food and raising it the healthiest imo. We have almost 5ac and I would never live in the city. I'm in the Central Valley and yes it gets hot as H*ll here. But that's what makes for good peppers, Sweet Grapes etc. The biggest thing that drives me nuts is the ChemTrails and Bs that some are pushing imo for $$. Keep the videos Coming I Love them! I'm more concerned with the RainForrest being cut down, Our oceans being Polluted, the 5G effects on us in.the long term etc. God Bless and may you all stay Healthy

speaking of the Great Depression, my husband's parents came from Ukraine and when he visited there several years ago his family was still in the 'village' making wooden wheels for horse-drawn carts. And they would have no idea if anything bad happened in the city. And my grandparents homesteaded in Northern Ontario way back and my grandfather bought a portable sawmill and helped folks clear their acres. Many decades later my husband and I bought 30 acres and cut logs and built out own cabin from them and when on from there and put in vegetable gardens, compost bins, a small greenhouse, etc. I know my grandparents are watching. As yours are watching you. Do you think it would be a combination of a small chuckle and a huge smile of proud joy? That's how I feel.

So, I would suggest that every animal you have get used to "Normal" things ... ear checks, stool checks, temps at the bare minimum no matter what animal. Cats and dogs need to be exposed to bathing at NO LESS than 8 weeks, preferably after they've had their first immunizations. Make bathing a good experience with treats while they're young. Chickens need regular checks. Bovines need regular health checks and annual preg checks if you're breeding them. One needs to learn to flip pigs for their annual exam whether for 4H or selling at auction. There's an art to keeping pigs from making all that noise and it starts with knowing how to flip them. Get down at ground level, take the two legs furthest from you. Grab, and pull, and they will be flipped on their back. Oddly, they go silent. Catatonic almost. NO squealing. Just cationic. No noise and they're still at least for long enough to do what you need to. Learn to flip a pig and you won't have to deal with all of the squealing.

I disagree what comes to sunscreens, but I can have peace as long as everyone does their informed decision in what's healthy for them. I burn in 15 minutes in the sun and I have to wear sunscreen on my face during summer every day. My mum has had skin cancer growth removed from her nose a couple of times and that's the place that hits the sun most frequently. She didn't wear sunscreens a lot and 10 years ago she even questioned if sunscreens are safe. I was horrified then but after she got those growths removed I never said to her "I told you so". I think she knew herself that all those 70 years in the sun had damaged her skin permanently. I do everything to protect my skin from skin cancer. I wear broad hats, I wear European and Asian spf50 sunscreens, I wear protective clothing, I restrict the time spend outside when the UV index is the highest, seek shade.... I whole heartedly believe in protecting the skin from the sun, and educate people around me whenever needed. I can't say anything about seed oils linked to skin cancer because this is the first time ever hearing about it, but I've done keto in the past and have heard that seed oils increase low level inflammation in the body. I would wish people would do more than avoiding seed oils to protect themselves from the UV radiation, but that's everyone's own choice, and I respect that.

Great video! We lived in the city on a .25 acre and I had a small garden. I use to grow anything & everything just because I could. I wanted more land, just because I wanted us to have a purpose as we got older. Two yrs ago, we moved to a rural (city border) area with dirt roads and on an acre. I expanded my garden and only grow things we eat. Except for kale, I grow that to give my animals. We now have 41 fruit trees, all but two potted. Three dogs, 3 lambs, 1 pig, 14 chickens, 2 ducks, 1 goat (second goat coming soon) 1 turkey & lots of gophers & wild bunnies. I LOVE it! I really love the inspiration you put out.Thank you!

On other channels I haven’t been a fan of live streams. People ramble too much and get lost in the weeds. I love videos that are to the point and live stream doesn’t do that.

Hi again Emily, I forgot to tell you that the bowl of ice cubes was applied once a week during the months of Dec and Jan. Eight times or so and I did have big beautiful pink peony flowers, I think the variety was called Dr. Fleming. One thing about the flowers that I didnt like was they dont hold up very well in a vase. I stopped cutting them and just enjoyed them on the plant. Im in a similar climate as you up here in Sonoma Co. Good luck !!

Hi Brian and Emily, I've really enjoyed getting to know you both better in this video, thank you for sharing with us and so nice to see more of you Emily(hope I spelt your name right). Brian, if you want to "step outside and feel you're in England" just go stand in the rain for a while😅 Sometimes it feels like it will never stop at this time of year!! Sending you love from a soggy island ❤
