I've been going to Yum Cha since I was a baby, but I can't remember the last time we actually tried something new! So today, my parents and I went to Yum Cha and ONLY ordered dishes we've never had before.

Funny story. After we had eaten, we were walking back through the shopping centre with our masks on, and we all commented on the terrible smell in the shops. Turned out it was our stinky breath after eating the durian!

Agree with the philosophy that more people should at least try something unknown, rather than judge it without tasting and dismiss it. The same philosophy could be applied as more people should at least visit China and see what life is like here for themselves, before judging it and dismissing our country.

饮茶 doesn’t mean drinking tea only in this situation. I am from 台山, guangdong. 饮茶 is a habit in my town that everyone is sitting and chatting in a table. While dim sum and the tea are the items that helps u through the conversation. In most cases, 饮茶 only happens in morning. We refer that as 早茶。 but as time leaps, there is also a 晚茶, which happens in the evening times after dinner (in rural areas dinner finished by 6pm, so 晚茶 is about 7-8 or even 9 pm sometimes. Before sleep). But since 饮茶 always involved with dim sum, and dim sum demands grew higher as times goes on, now whenever people refer 饮茶, it automatically translated into eating dim sum. I remember when I was a child, my grandpa went to a yum cha store, order the buns and started talking with peers. Teas are automatically charged per table. The price for the tea including refills are standard for all tables and meant to split between the amount of customers in that tables on top of what they ordered. Usually people don’t eat a lot of foods during yum cha, because after they finish yum cha with friends, they go home and it’s almost time for lunch.

It's so cool how you grew up with yum cha and your parents are so open-minded, Amy! Radish cake and chicken feet are some of my favorite dim sum dishes that I grew up with! Zongzi and tripe too. I think a lot of Chinese meats have some interesting textures / bones / fattiness / chewiness that are a bit more hard to get used to from a Western standpoint haha

I'm also a great fan of yum cha, in my junior days I remember my parents' taking us out to Chinatown on a weekly basis. We have everything you showed on your vlog in London on the menu except the duriun puff and the mango cream pancake. I'm so pleased you're willing to try thing's you've never experiment before, good on you Amy and your lovely parents' as well !

In Melbourne, that beef ball would usually come with some worcestershire dipping sauce. I've tried it plain and I've tried with with soy sauce but I always go back to the worcestershire dipping sauce. You mentioned de-boned chicken feet. I only know that in South Korea you can get de-boned chicken feet.

Aussie Cantonese here, living in Sydney also. Might give that restaurant a try next time i am near. Durians are indeed a very divisive fruit, me and my wife loves it, my mum and some of my asian friends felt like throw up if they smell it. Absolely love your series. watched a few of your other shows already, they indeed very entertaining so keep it up!

Blondie in China I know some people would go through the trouble of deboning the chicken feet before cooking them. Much less ‘mafan’ to enjoy!
