Im such a fan of this device. Theres been a few hand-held drops but nothing, and i mean nothing has pulled me like the steam deck, so this new one is a win for me.

I'm glad they kept it 'chunky'. I can make room for a bigger device in my bag, but with a stock switch I'm stuck with a small display and poor ergonomics. Not everyone wants more portable and if that's what you're after there's actually plenty of other PC handhelds that do this, albeit most aren't cheap

The big question: Can I drop in my 1tb stick from the lcd Deck and just be off and running (after the latest Steam OS updates)? Are the drivers any different? I have a dual boot with windows 10.

Someone on Reddit did a test. The Deck boots with a transplanted SSD, but some things no longer work, most notably the WiFi chip. It works normally once you do an OS update, but you have to connect to the net to do the update, so you need a wired connection of some description.

2013 Valve tried to get PC manufacturers to release "Steam Machines", somewhat standardized midrange small form factor PCs, using Linux based SteamOS with Big Picture Mode and a Steam Controller to run a still rather limited number of games ported to Linux. The results were mediocre, a number of prototypes with very few commercial releases, and most of them ended up running Windows. This time they might build the devices themselves, based on their experience with Steam Deck and AMD APUs. SteamOS with Proton can now run the vast majority of Windows games, and some older games even faster than Windows, thanks to translating DX9-11 to Vulkan. Compared to Steam Machine partners needing to make their money back from the hardware, Valve could offer it rather cheap like the Steam Deck, as their model would be making back the money by increased sales on Steam. So maybe the second time is the charm.

In a way now is a good time to sell. People on the fence will want to pick up all the cast offs from people upgrading. I bet you can get 200-250 for yours.

I think they missed that it's also got a higher refresh rate, it went from 60hz to 90hz. Personally I'm a bit dissapointed that it doesn't have 120hz with VRR, but it's still cool.

Same, we were not to know. I think I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet and upgrade. That screen is such a massive upgrade, seen a few tests today and cyberpunk for example lasts around an hour longer on the OLED version over the LCD. That with faster charging just makes the upgrade a no brained, shame it’s come so soon for us.
