We Surprised Stuart Twice at The Old Course St. Andrews // Scotland Ep. 8

The Old Course, St. Andrews Links, The Home of Golf. Erik Anders Lang and the crew visit St Andrews to pay homage to the game we all love. What the crew doesn't know (well...just Stuart) is that the boys have a tee time on The Old Course thanks to American transplant Rob Ogle.
You see, Stuart grew up in Scotland (Glasgow to be exact) and his family would vacation to the town of St. Andrews every year. Stuart's dad was an avid golfer at the time, but Stuart had just started to dabble in the game. Stuart and his family later moved to Australia and neither of them ever got the chance to play The Old Course.
So this was our chance.
Stuart was coming back to Scotland with us for the first time in years and his dad (randomly! like...seriously a week before hand they were on the phone and figured out they were on the same flight back) had planned a trip back home at the same time for a wedding.
We hatched this grand idea of surprising Stu with a round on The Old Course AND having his dad meet us on the first tee for the double-whammy. It could not have been more beautiful.

I smiled from the second this video started, it ended 20 minutes ago, and all I can do is sit back in my chair and continue to smile. This twenty-seven minute and fifty-nine-second long video says everything that golf is to me. I can only hope and wonder that I am not alone when I say that this is what the game is truly about. If and/or when our paths ever cross, I will be thanking you for this moment and this feeling that this feature has given not only myself but everyone that knows what it's like to not be able to explain their true love that comes from the flight of a tiny white ball. -Cheers, TheJustjosH

Eric, Tina Turner moment, Simply the best! You have out done yourself. I started pulling my grandad S trolley when I was 8, his friends asked who the little boy was. He was playing with my Dad. So, I was made to play golf at 13, so we could play as Grandad, Dad and Son. That's how I started. Just persuaded my Dad, to play one more year, again. He is nearly 89, so I am not sure how many rounds we have left together. Have known for a while I have to treasure every one.

For every son that grew up golfing with his father, this is a dream come true. Hats off to you for making that happen for your friend and his father. Just seen this for the first time. I'm in the ballot to play on March 28th. It will still be cold. Likely wet, but its the only time I can afford it and I absolutely cannot wait. I'm praying I get lucky. This is the dream though. Wow. The old course, with best friends, family, perfect weather, sunset etc. What a cherished memory you all have from that. Grinning ear to ear just living vicariously through you all. Amazing.

I love how you surprised Stuart twice and give him and his dad the gift of their lives to be able to play the Old Course together! I got to do that with my dad in 2006 and while my dad is still alive it is an experience I will cherish forever. Well done Erik!

Reminds me of when my wife flew my brother to Hawaii without me knowing, and I didn't figure it out until I opened the trunk at the airport to load our bags and he was there waiting. I think I said "what the fuck are you doing here?!".

No one tells a golf story better. Another great job. I lost my dad over six years ago. He introduced me to the game. I'd get a phone call every so often about how he had "finally figured it out" (meaning his golf swing). Couldn't help but let the emotions flow as I watched this. Thanks to you and your team for what you do.

Just stumbled upon RGC a few weeks back when the first Breaking Sawgrass episode came up as a YT suggestion, and I haven't been able to stop watching since. I've seen hundreds, if not thousands of golf videos in the same vein as this one over the years. This is head, and shoulders above all of them. From now on, any time anyone asks why I play golf, I'm pointing them to this video.

So I had to see the moment that Stuart found out that he's playing the Old Course and the moment that he saw his dad so I kinda skipped the first 10 minutes of the video, and then went back and watched them after I finished the video... And just as I suspected I teared up just at Stuart and his dad saw each other and embraced one another. Awesome video guys! Erik, Colt, Cristian, and everybody else! Really just awesome.

Absolutely beautiful. I know I am late to finding this gem, has to be the best episodes of youtube golf non-sense that has ever been created. Hit all of those warm feeling dopamine receptors in my brain. I lost my dad 6 years ago and only started playing golf again last year, we used to play all the time and there has to be nothing like those shared memories and cheeky pints afterwards while dissecting around. Thanks for an episode that really reminded me of those days.

This truly captures the spirit of golf, friendship and history of the game. Well done! Memories of my own golf experience at The Old Course 8 years ago came flooding back. I almost cried on the first tee, certainly had watery eyes for like 3 holes. I got to experience it with my father and mother, truly a day that we will always talk about and relive for the rest of our lives. We had a pint at the Dunvegan after the round. One of the best days of my life.

Epic footage right here from the second it starts to the second it finishes! I felt the emotions all the way to the soul, especially when that fantastic tune from 17 through 18 and finish was playing! Sooner we all realize we are indeed brothers and sisters, the better place the world and we all will truly be! When Rob said, "I feel like I've been waiting 500 years to play the old course", that resonated deeply here! I'd love to spend an entire spring, summer and fall over there playing as many of the great old courses as I could, with St. Andrews at the top of that list! You all demonstrated right here exactly what true brothers we all are indeed! Shout out to every one of you and a big hug for being real brothers, what it's all about, no doubt about it!

I didn't want to sit and watch the video because it was so long and I wanted to go to bed. But once I started watching I couldn't stop. What a great video like everyone else has commented truly great. I watched all the Adventures in golf videos and I think just watching any video with golf and Eric being the commentator made it that much more fun. I just want to trade ly life for Erics' for one month. All the golf course he's played and people hes met. So incredibly jealous. A dream that very few can make happen but you did it Wow.

God I love St Andrews. Only played it once, I'd worked a night shift until 0200 queued up from 0630, got a tee at 1315 with 3 American lads. Played out of my skin, shot 6 over par, playing off 13. Was so happy! Although I double bogey 16 and 17. Was +2 at that point!

I am in awe of your ability to take care of all of the aspects of the traveling and still have time to do things as selfless and thoughtful as this. The feels man... the feels! This video has made me reflect on all the rounds I have had with my father and appreciate them that much more. Made me eager for the ones we have yet to play. And, now having a son of my own, made me look forward to the day I can share this game with him and hopefully have him one day be in the same shoes I am in at this moment. This is a masterpiece. A piece done in fiction couldn’t create the beauty and emotion of this short. The fact that content like this exists on RU-vid is tremendous. Who knows if I’ll ever have the opportunity to play the OC. I definitely won’t do it with my dad. But watching Stu do it with his dad makes it feel so real. Erik, you are an incredible film maker. I love the channel. Keep up the great work. I’ll be watching this again when my game sucks or when I miss my friends (and especially my dad).

One of the best videos put out. I was there about a month before you guys (late June), with my brother who is stationed in Germany. Was a year long process, but man, was it worth the wait! Coming from the States to meet my brother to play The Old Course. Lifetime memory. Got up at 2 AM, got 4th and 5th in line and got a spot. Still to this day one of the best days of golf I've ever had. Thanks for all the work you put in Erik.

Just spent some time in the UK and was lucky enough to play a few dream courses with my cousin who I play with most often and this video captures so well the excitement and joy golf with your mates in an epic setting can provide.
