Hi Everyone! Here is a pretty Christmas song called, "We Three Kings." John Henry Hopkins wrote this carol in Pennsylvania in 1865. This is an instrumental fiddle version, but there typically are five verses -- I played it through five times for anyone who wanted to sing along kind of like a karaoke. I also played all the instruments to make a fully acoustic version of the song -- I hope that you like it!
I've heard a lot of different versions of this song. Some people play it really upbeat, others quite slow paced. I really wanted to try to swing it a little -- it made me realize this could become a cool jazz band song if there were the right instruments. Since I typically play folk music, I didn't go too into the swinging and jazzy vibe since I don't really know how... But it gave me a lot of ideas.
Lyrics:
We three kings of Orient are;
bearing gifts we traverse afar,
field and fountain, moor and mountain,
following yonder star.
Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading,
still proceeding,
guide us to thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain,
gold I bring to crown him again,
King forever,
ceasing never,
over us all to reign. [Refrain]
Frankincense to offer have I;
incense owns a Deity nigh;
prayer and praising,
voices raising,
worshiping God on high. [Refrain]
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume
breathes a life of gathering gloom;
sorrowing, sighing,
bleeding, dying,
sealed in the stone-cold tomb. [Refrain]
Glorious now behold him arise;
King and God and sacrifice:
Alleluia,
Alleluia,
sounds through the earth and skies. [Refrain]
I apologize for my hiatus these last few months. I had been extremely upset and was having the hardest time trying to film videos. Every time I would look at the footage, it just seemed like it looked like I was upset, which I was, but... I don't necessarily want a video to show that... I feel like I'm finally at a place where I can accept a new version of myself, and like I'm finally moving forward again.
I'm starting to feel excited for 2023! I'm hoping this will be the year that I get to do all the music things I was hoping I could do in 2020 when I first moved to this new city. It's been weird to live in a town for over 2 years and still feel new to it since the pandemic shut so much down. I'm finally getting to meet other musicians, play at sessions again, and start to expand my tune repertoire.
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a good rest of the week! =)
