Welcome back to our series from our time onboard Costa Toscana, the huge brand new flagship from Costa Cruises. We were onboard this cruise for a 7-night Mediterranean cruise itinerary exploring Spain, France and Italy, and we're so excited today to be showing you ROME!
Now, the ship doesn't dock IN Rome for obvious reasons (there's no ocean), but instead docks at 'nearby' Civitavecchia which, as we'll show you in the video, isn't exactly 'next door'.
Today, we'll have breakfast down at the onboard buffet, before disembarking the ship and taking the train into Rome. On our agenda today is the Vatican - one of the most famous places in all of Italy! We'll show you how you can tick this one off of your cruise bucket list without breaking the bank.
After we make it back to the ship, let us show you another of Costa's famed elements - their pizza. Then, it's showtime!

Love it! And I'm only 1 minute into it -- ci-vit-a-ve-KEYah. Laura was almost 99% perfect on it at 4:55 -- civitaVE-kyah. You two did better with the pronunciation than 98% of the vloggers out there. That's my home port, I live in Umbria, in a city called Amelia. Last time I cruised into Civi (I shorten it to make it easier LOL) there were FIVE in port. I've lived in this country for 19 years and even I was in the worst mood ever by the time I got myself to the train station to go home. Good lord.....and one more was expected into port a couple hours from then. Getting ready to do it again at the beginning of August to get home from the Victoria trip -- beginning of August......good gawd! But I'm preparing myself ;-) Getting coffee to watch the rest now, 'cause I know this is going to be a good one LOL (I finally made a long and detailed post for people on a couple cruise boards about the Rome-Civi-FCO routes because there was so much crazy info out there) HA go Laura on the price! 2.50 each for a capucc near St Peter's sitting down (you pay more when you sit at a table) is normal, and not too bad considering. Always just stop at a "bar" ;-) FUN FACT -- when I was a teenager living in Rome, we used to go to the vatican square out front and kick bottle caps around because we were bored. Never even looked over at the vatican itself ;-) (yes that all changed when I was an adult living there) The Toscana is heads-and-tails above the Pacifica, 100 times better. Good job and glad you enjoyed my city! (if you ever cruise back in here to Italy, give ma heads' up!)

@@FraserAtSea We have our own Fizzy Orange in N Cyprus* _Yedigün_ l drink the diet version. My main drink is Coke Zero; the diet orange is the only diet drink other than Coke Zero you can buy here in the North of the island. You used to get diet Sprite but l've not seen it since covld. *yes it's refreshing. Did you ever consider that all the sparkling soft drinks are no doubt produced by the same company?

The intensity of the 1 day rome port stop is one of main reasons I'd recommend starting/ending the cruise there to allow the time to explore the city at more leisurely pace. No other ports in the med come to mind as ones where departing/ending the cruise provides as large a benefit versus a one day stop.

Yeah, I actually would advice just not doing Rome by cruise - it’s so stressful! If you’re living in Europe, I’d always recommend just going on a trip specifically to Rome - it’s SO huge that you could spend weeks there and still not see it all… Thanks for watching!!

Pronunciation is for CIVITAVECCHIA is: Chee (as in CHEESE) vee (as in T.V.) tah (as in Thanks) These 3 parts would be pronounced as 1 syllable CHEEVEETAH; then veckia (as in deck with ia as in Australia)… So chee.vee.tah.veckia. I like watching the two of you bounce off of each other whith (I thank what you Brtis’ call Banter?) 😊 I know this is long-winded pronunciation but hey… There the answer From Italian into English Oh just make sure that the ‘I’s or the English EE’s are formed just short as in MISSED, or HISSED, or (don’t worry - family-friendly: …No third option - You get it) 😂😂😂

Again a fabulous video showing lots of practical advice on avoiding overly expensive excursions. Rome is one of those cities that a cruise is ideal for letting you having a taster to see whether you like it and then can go back for a longer time. Your shots inside at peters were simply stunning. Hope poor Laura’s foot has recovered. You have walked her senseless obviously

Ha, don’t worry - she’ll be recovered by Genoa 😂 Totally agree - Rome by cruise is absolutely just a sample - not a chance you’d tick it all off visiting for the few hours you get. I do wonder if ships could do overnights in port there…

It's "Civitavecchia ("ch" in italian is pronounced like the word "sCHedule" in american...with a "k" sound....Civita = City / vecchia = Old (Civitavecchia = old town)

Enjoyed ! - presented swimmingly 😀. Looking forward to Rome in March’23. 1 wk on our own in Tokyo - then arrive 2 days prior to sail away in Civitavecchia . If all goes all goes to plan🤞 we’ll have a full day in Rome. Vatican and the Colosseum top on the list. Looking forward to Genoa, haven’t been there yet !
