Haha omg Rose I'm so glad you saw this video, I saw it and immediately thought of you 😂 I definitely needed this video in my life; thankful they had the patience to do it, lol. 💚
You both get GOLD STARS for effort and presentation!! It is silly the way people who are not vegan think this is the way vegans eat!LOL! Great video 🌸❤️
Tbh I feel like what he was going for was more of a "here's how you can prepare vegetables in a way that shows them off instead of trying to imitate meat" kind of thing than it was presenting an actually practical vegan meal. Like, there were good intentions, but I think his smugness sorta took over and got in the way.
@@coloradostatesenatorsteven7443 WHY does Avantgardevegan worship him? Because he was trained as a chef and he uses those skills to make really complicated meals which I would not eat everyday but everyone of them is OMG great. Gordon Ramsey is famous for unnecessary tantrums why do I have to respect him? He does make fun of vegans; he's a 10 yr old competing with Jaimie Oliver in some astral plane I'm not thinking of visiting. Love you guys but there's a French guy ... French academy cooking I think .... he's not vegan but his vegan dishes are totally brilliant. His ratatouille takes 15 minutes I make it all the time check him out -- I don't limit myself to vegan chefs there are a few and if they know something I don't know I'm good.
@@jamiecee4960 I posted above; I used to eat this stuff in a Lebanese restaurant and it's so easy; repeat just because it's so easy... 1 inch slices yes salt over colander 2 hrs walk away; rinse pat dry some salt will have penetrated but not that much; grill pan on top of stove; olive oil garlic lemon juice texture really is like steak. When I realized how simple it was I thought .... why do I need a grill pan? You can do it in the oven but according to Dr Greger mushrooms do well on a grill pan .... so I bought one. And no I don't have an air fryer. And I have a mid-range blender. And an instant pot. A chef's knife. Something to steam veggies. So when I make it at home I do take the opportunity to grill mushrooms as well with lots of black pepper etc. and I make tabouli ... I just do Lebanese stuff; hummous raw veggies and if too lazy to pickle veggies just add a bit of kimchi which is not Lebanese but it tastes great. I've made chickpea flour pita which didn't work, but if you're ok with pita bread you have a great meal. Love this channel; love all you guys.
Exactlyyy I don’t get why people are so pressed over how complicated it is. GR caters his recipe for his high end restaurant. This isn’t your typical 3 ingredients make it at home Buzzfeed recipe.
@@laurenbi yes, but this is how all HIS recipes are not just cause it’s Vegan. Look up his scrambled egg recipe. If he can make scrambled eggs complicated what do you expect from a Vegan steak.
@@Sweetsimplevegan I don't mind non-vegan chefs who have great ideas. Ottolenghi is famous for his million ingredient recipes and he doesn't mock vegans; he just thinks if it's a vegetable that's what it is. The only think he's against is mock meats/cheese etc. So I have adapted some of his recipes because they really are amazing and he's not a fraud. Ramsay, throw him to the wolves.
Feels like you could maybe just cut up the eggplant into cubes and throw it in a baking dish with the wine, other flavoring ingredients, and the mushrooms, bake it all together and put the whole thing on mashed potatoes?
I would feel like I'm in a nursing home. All the mush. (Also the original recipe) The recipe needs some texture. I still have my teeth, let's use them 😅
Thank you for not giving up! When I saw the first part of the video with ALL those ingredients I thought "no way!" Just seeing those all you had to purchase was an absolute "NO" in my book, especially when it's only for ONE meal!!! It was fun watching you two and really appreciate your honest thoughts and opinions! The mashed potatoes and mushrooms were good enough for me! They looked amazing. Thank you for making and sharing this video, recipe and Gordon Ramsey completed dish.
This is why people think eating plant based is expensive and complicated 😭 . He really went so extra. I'd make the mushrooms and masked potatoes though
He has like 5 people in his restaurant working on each element simultaneously while he’s out filming episodes of ‘Im An Asshole’ so don’t think you were doing anything wrong. It’s actually really impressive with how all-in you went. 👍 I’ll need to make those mashed potatoes and that demi glacé looks amazing!
You guys are too cute and so funny! I love your honesty in all your videos. I have no plans to make this, mainly because eggplant is not my jam and the time...wow. Standing ovation to you two for making and sharing the journey of this recipe with us!
I wish someone would make that for me so I could try it. Sounds like you do find it delicious. I'm too lazy to make simple recipes so I know it ain't happening at my house. I really enjoyed the video, though, and appreciate you making this recipe so we could see just how much it took to put it all together. Crazy stuff!
Chris & Jasmine, you guys are troopers! I've seen demiglace recipes, and they're all like this. I've seen other chefs who do marathon recipes like this, not just vegan recipes. You guys probably could have done a week's worth of meal prep for the ingredients, cost, and time you put into this Gordon Ramsey eggplant steak and mash potatoes meal. Thank you for going to so much trouble for us. I'm glad it at least tasted good!
Who tf doesn’t put cooking times in a recipe like that’s kindof critical??! Thanks for making this and concluding it’s as complicated as it looks so none of us have to lmao 😭
Appreciate the honesty right at the start of the video, you have more patience them me, I would've gave up after seeing the recipe requirements and no cook time listings lol
just found this channel today and been binge watching on all fast food restaurants with vegan options but great to see how much you care for your doggies , hope the chihuahua you took to Jersey is better .
Gordom Ramsay on Kitchen Nightmares: your broccoli soup sucks! It uses more than a dozen expensive ingredients and doesn't even taste broccoli! My recipe only includes broccoli, salt, and some reserved cooking liquid Also Ramsay:
Jasmine: "Don't come after me, man. I'm scared of him!" Cracked me up!! Not to mention Chris' intro and commentary, and his laughing in the background. That recipe is ridiculous! I'm with Chris. GR is either trolling vegans, or trying to prove he can do anything better than anybody. Pffft. Lots of props to you two for the entertainment factor, and the enormous effort and cost. You guys are awesome.
THIS is RIDICULOUS!😩 You “have the patience of JOB”! *Shakes head in slow motion*😑 I will NOT be making this, so THANKS for taking one for the team!🤷🏽♀️😂 Chris laughing in the background, while Jasmine is plating, took me ALL the way the EFF OUUUUUT!!!😆🤣
Wow that looked intense!! I'm glad it was delicious. Gordon Ramsay needs to watch some of your other videos and learn a thing or two about vegan cooking!!
Ur kidding right, the mans a proffesional chef, is a shame the amount of haters out here looking to make a quick buck on youtube, just to trash talk utter bs jealousy. Also there are like 6 different types of vegans, vegans are so annoying and self rightous idiots.
Talk about patience.....you 2 had a lot for this video!!! First of all the groceries that it took to make the one dish looked like a week or two worth of food for one meal!!! The time it took and finally getting to eat it a 11:30 pm Wow!!!
My sister and I wanted to make this but we went for a less-than-an-hour-1/10-of-the-ingredients-version and that’s as far as I’ll go with it 😂 thanks for the inspo Gordon but HELL no is exactly right lmao
I laughed harder than I have in a while.!!!! Lol lol. I would not want Gordon after me either...but you worked real hard and it looked really good!! Was so proud of y'all!
I definitely feel like he made this recipe to mock vegan food and make it look difficult, which is beyond annoying. He definitely has a history of making fun of vegan food so this comes as no surprise to me lol. I am happy that you all enjoyed in the end!
Mashed potatos, demi glaze, basting jus, the mushrooms etc. are things that are normal in a omivore kitchen. The only really "vegan recipe" was the eggplant steak. So I really don't think he was mocking vegans or something 🤷♀️
Gordan was definitely being a troll, yet I find it so hilarious! He is being true to what he has always said, lol, even though I dont agree this is so Gordan. Lol.
Thanks so much for putting the time & money in trying it out... I am sure you guys will be able to take bits and pieces of what you did like (shrooms and potatoes) and enjoy them in other ways. I love the recipes you guys create... other than the issues that came up did you like testing out another chef's recipe? Do you think you will do that as a featured video again?
I have no issues slow cooking things...but definitely too many ingredients and there are so many good vegan recipes to make that are less complicated then this. Thank u for doing this video, u guys are awesome 💚
Wow!! That's crazy how much ingredients and preparation that goes into this recipe 🤔 but it does look really good! You and Chris did a very nice job Jasmine ❤️
When I watch the beginning of the video. They said that they were never making this again ,I'm like is it really that bad *Watches whole video* Oh I get it , it just took a while and the cost of how expensive it is. I'm still trying it
In culinary school we're taught to have everything complete at the same time. So we start with the thing that takes the longest time then work to the easiest with it all being done simultaneously.
Your level of patience & commitment is beyond me 😂 but props on sticking with it. I wouldn't take cooking vegan advice from Chef Gordo Clumsey the dude eats so much beef he's beginning to take on the shape of one.
i saw something on America's Test Kitchen (or one of those pbs type shows) where they pureed the veggies and used them in another sauce or something. No sense wasting the fiber even if most of the flavor is simmered out.
If you end up overcooking (or overcharring) the eggplant, salvage it by turning it into an eggplant bharta. Chop some ginger, garlic, onion, tomatoes, and chillies (optional). Roast them lightly in a pan. You may add spices at this step depending on your spice tolerance. Skin the eggplants, transfer everything in a pan and mash them together. Add salt and some acid (lime or lemon). Garnish with chopped cilantro and oil of your choice. Done.
Immense kudos to you for actually making this!!!! I raise my hat to you! Being a vegan/vegetarian household, we like our protein... All I thought when I saw the original Ramsay video was: ”Why bothering to cook something that pretends to have the appearance of steak?” If it is to attract omnivores - fine. Anything to get people to appreciate good food, but for me - it’s a slab of aubergine, cooked with a lot of faff :-) And a protein free meal, if that’s the idea, will just leave me famished an hour later :-) :-)
Probably one of the most funniest.....serious, recreation of Gordon Ramsey’s recipes yet!! There should be some awards show for U-Tubers! Damn good stuff!!
