1:41 is not a language thats used often in the 800m, people don't understand how crazy this race really was. the mens 800m went from the event that was struggling the most in track and field to possibly being the event of the olympics.

The pace setter did an excellent job. No pace setters in the Olympics so times may be a little slower.

Rudisha 2012 was at the time and still is, the greatest run I've ever witnessed. Michael Johnson twice in Atlanta and Bolt twice in the world championships are almost parallel - but that Rudisha run was so ridiculous... It gets me every time!

Side note: Back in the day, many races were on grass. The record for 800 m grass was set in 1962 by Peter Snell (a 1500m specialist) and stil hasn't been beaten. 1:44.

What happened was two men wanted to prove they were the best in the world and one was racing in his home stadium. Everyone else came along for the ride. Sedjati is THE phenom.

Was not expecting this year to be particularly incredible in the 800m just as the last several years have not been remarkable. However, this could end up being one of the greatest season's in 800m history.

Sebastian Coe ran that fast before high tech shoes, modern training and steroids. One of the greatest track stars ever …and nobody pushing him

The craziest statistic in this video is that Seb Coe still has the 6th fastest 800m ever from FORTY THREE years ago.

Thanks for covering this race, imo the best 800m race of all time. I don't remember feeling the same excitement for an 800m since Rudisha retired until Djamel Sedjati ran in the Stockholm DL earlier this year. The 800m at the Paris DL may not showcase a world record, but for speed, competitiveness and rivalry it is unmatched. The head to head Sedjati vs Wanyonyi, Tual's break-through to 800m greatness which some of us already predicted for him, and the way the entire field tried to follow the leaders and ran NRs and PBs down to 8th place makes this race the best.

What a diamond league meeting this weekend, high jump WR, insane 1500 race and WR and this insane 800 race, lets hope we see similiar in the paris olympics in a few weeks

I can’t believe what is happening in 800m. All these unknown guys running crazy fast.

And before the French championships of 2024, Gabriel Tual's personal best was 1:44.23 in the exact same track than here in 2022. His best performance in 2024 before his 1:43.99 was 1:44.43. He also wins the European championships with 1:44.87. In a short amount of time (1 month) he went from 1:44.87 to 1:41.61 this season. It was simply amazing. If he continues to improve this season, and if he reaches his peak in the Olympic final, with the cheer of his own crowd, this can be incredibly fast. For me the world record can go down at these Olympics if all competitors are in fire and if they set an incredibly fast pace in the finals. And the future of the 800 is very bright. I can totally imagine with this very young generation, break the world record and even threatening the sub 1:40 at their peak of their lives if they continued to improve and reach the max of the potential. I'm french and I'm super excited to see the evolution of athletics in general, with this fire generation in the 800, very curious of the level of Gabriel Tual this summer. Sorry for the possible faults in english I'm not good to write outside of french language.

I'm so glad you covered this race. I was watching as the introductions were given. I told my wife, "I've never seen such a stacked field before. Everyone's super fast." And boy did it live up to it. I was yelling 'What???!!!' as they finished. Amazing. One for the books.

WTF happened here? I have watched the 800 closely since El Cabello ran his WR, but I have never seen a race like this one. The 12 Games was close, as even 5th place Nick Simmons from Idaho ran 1:42.95. but only one man ran under 1:41.70 in London, and here were THREE men running PB's under that. Crazy fast. I hope Wanyonyi takes it out fast in Paris, so there is no repeat of the Sydney 800, but this is my most anticipated Olympic final. Fun vid. Thnx

All year the 800 was boringly "slow". Then all of a sudden the times are faster than ever.

This race was so out of control amazing that it gave me chills the last 300 meters.

The top SIX athletes averaged a time of 1:41.89 seconds. Prior to 2024 this would have placed there AVERAGE time as sixth all time. WTF

Post Covid has been amazing for track and field.

Good video. But what it doesn't say is the Coe revolutionized the 800m twice: first in Oslo in 1979 when he took over a second of Juantorena's WR to run 1.42.33 then in Florence 1981 when he took a further 6 tenths off that.

I watched this live - could'nt believe what i was seeing! The competition in every track race at the Olympics is mind blowing! Bytheway, Jake Wightman is running the 800 for GB (not the 1500).

Coe's run on a dirt track in 1981 is till the best.

David Rudisha and Vebjorn Rodal are the only gold medalists to run under 1:43 in the history of the Olympics. All of the other gold medal winning times never broke 1:43. Why? There is no pace maker. They have to race. This is why you won’t see any of these runners lining up in the finals of the Olympics or World Championships. The Diamond League is a shit show.

Chris Bermen must also be noted as a master of the craft. And he did as Nostradamus now does tell some what they saw with their own two eyes in real time and the things that no one saw. It was similar in the women's 1500, lots of national records, almost everyone a PB. I'm worried about how many records are being smashed this year, including some from the bad old days of blatant and aggressive doping. I know the Olympics are coming and everyone's peaking, and yeah there are fancy shoes and new, faster tracks... but often it's the case that sudden, significant gains are related to PEDs, right? It's been such an exciting year in track, and I hope that there isn't some new superdrug that will eventually lead to a lot of asterisks next to the number 2024.

Going all out on a very unimportant race just weeks before the Olympics. That's called peaking way too early, and as a result not one of these three has a shot at gold. One of the three might get bronze, but the others will be far behind. There's a reason you don't go all out until the championships! A hard lesson to learn, but it's their turn.

This was the 3rd greatest 800m of all time, after Rudisha and Coe's WRs

The fact that going under 1.42 is still considered exceptional is a testament to how great Seb Coe was. Before this race only 2 men had beaten Seb's 1981 time, now after this exceptional race, 5 have beaten his time. Of course Seb's time from 43 years ago was achieved without modern training methods, modern spikes etc., as with all greats from the past.

They running fast but i dont think anyone will touch that 1:40.91 WR. Rudisha mentioned that it got extremely challenging to break the WR once he got to the low 1:41s.

What are the air temperatures for the record runs? It's probably not significant, but the higher the temperature, the less dense the air becomes, and there is less drag on the objects that pass through it.

The Tokyo 1991 100m World final produced the nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 (=6), 10 (=9) on the all-time list. The Munich 1972 10000m Olympic final produced the nos. 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 on the all-time list. Reall astronomically small that something like this happens.

You covered it very briefly, by also shwoing Ivo Van Damme name. But Crestan(6th) beat probably the most iconic Belgian Record. Ivo Van Damme is 2 time silver medalist in Olympic Games in Montreal(at time 2 fastest time ever) at age 22. He died that year in auto crash. Since that day the meeting that is now the prestigious Diamond Leauge in Brussel is called after him. Now only his record on the 1000m still stands Truly Golden year for Belgium on his distances with also 2nd and 4th places on European Championships on the 1500m

Amazing race from an amazing meet. Although the meet didn't quite match last years 3 WR's , the number of PB's, NR's and AR's was crazy, but it's not even just the quantity, but the scale of some of them. As mentioned here Tual improving his 800m PB by over 2 seconds, but there was Jess Hull improving her 1500m PB by around 5 seconds, Yaroslava Mahuchikh improving her high jump PB by 4cm, which may not be that uncommon when your PB is in the 1.8's or 1.9's, but when your PB is already 2.06m, no-one expects you to jump a 2.07m PB and follow it with a first time clearance of 2.10m. A month ago I was finding this season a little disappointing, despite already having seen multiple WR's, we've just been spoilt for amazing performances in recent years. Now, however, things seem to get more amazing with each meet. It's going to be difficult for Monaco to follow that and, if I remember correctly, Monaco has seen more WR's than any other Diamond League event, although that stat may not be current with Paris having seen 5 in the past two meets.

It appears that a lot of these runners are juiced. Just sayin, it seems there is a new drug that aids endurance but is undetectable.

The Montreal 1976 women's 800m final produced the nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 on the all-time list. Have you ever corrected your mistakes? Or do you even have some interest in correct facts - or do you just prefer your superlatives (regardless if wrong or right)?
