JB! Even before teaming up with Jim, Tori put together a lot of covers all by herself, using multitrack machines and software. If you're curious, just go to her site and you'll hear not only Carpenters covers, but Olivia Newton-John and other artists. So she's got a brilliant musical mind and chops to produce the music.
I've been following Tori for a couple of months now and was a great fan of the carpenters back in the '70s when I grew up. You can't replace Karen but certainly Tori is the closest I've ever heard! Your reaction was priceless! I'd like to request a follow-up, but something different from Tori. She is released and original single called Something to Believe in. It is the promo video version, not just the audio. She still sounds a great deal like Karen in this performance which shows you that her natural voice is very much like Karen without any embellishment. Also in this original, the vibe is very much carpenter-like. You will enjoy it immensely.
Paul Williams and Roger Nichols wrote the song. This song was originally part of a commercial for the now defunct Crocker Bank in 1970. Richard Carpenter heard the song and the rest is history! Over the years no one has ever sounded like Karen but Tori is very-very close. Tori also does a audio of Merry Christmas, Darling and the very difficult Burt Bacharach and Hal David medley,
I remember viewing your Carpenters reactions a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoying the sincere and devoted appreciation you had for Karen. I have been following Tori for several months now and was not disappointed in your response. She is a genuine diamond and while no one can ever replace or sound exactly like Karen, Tori is paying her and Richard the ultimate compliment in the effort that she and these other very talented musicians have produced. I can't really add any thing more suggestion wise than what Joe Spiegel, the requester has mentioned, he's always very thorough in his comments, but my personal second choice to watch would be the Bacharach/David medley that was coupled with Jim Wilkas' harmonies. I don't remember if you covered the Carpenters version of this but it's a wonderful rendition. Just keep watching, Tori won't disappoint you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_mQCjHL3fiQ.htmlsi=K6V_GoIp3fXZEFl6
Thanks for the compliment. I was so worried about James’ reaction that I wondered if the au-natural, acoustic Tori might not be the better follow up. The Medley w/Jim is a fantastic choice. James! I agree here if you just want to watch the live one offline as it’s rough around the edges. It’s definitely a watch as Something In Your Eyes, will put something in your eyes! Joe
@@jbs256The Downey video is fabulous Joe, I believe James would love every bit of what Tori has put out so far regardless of the sequence. And personal thanks to you for all the effort you have put forth in exposing Tori to reactors and giving her fans the opportunity to see more people experience the beautiful gift that she has - Steve
@@SAnnun-hs1io you are more than welcome Steve! It’s been a journey for me. With some amazing occurrences. Getting to meet Tori and her Pop and see her live, so early in her career. Getting to see Richard up close and personal. (Too shy to shake his hand etc.) And also meet some Facebook friends and make new ones in real life. Priceless.
JB sir, consider doing what no on else is doing ...every once in a while bring us something we never heard before that is part of your life's soundtrack and ask for our reactions. Id love to know what music inspired you growing up
Yo, noticed you reacted to Dimash 5 years ago. I haven't seen you react to Dimash's idol Lara Fabian (many consider her equal to Whitney, Celine & Mariah). Lara has been performing for over 3 decades, singing in 12 languages, speaks 5 (maybe more) and write lyrics in 4 languages. Dimash has sung several of Lara's song and has performed with her on stage multiple times. Checkout her PBS concert "From Lara with Love 2000", IMO every song in the setlist is worthy of a listen if not a reaction. You've reacted to Morissette (Asia's Phoenix) but haven't done The Cover Queen - Gigi De Lana and her band Gigi Vibes who by the way will be completing their U.S.-Canada tour (Rated GiGi)- every show was a sell out!! Here's one of my favorite covers of one of my all-time favorite songs (Fly Me To The Moon - a very different arrangement) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9_5nTgS9qeg.html
I first discovered Lara Fabian when doing day trips to France and looking at music in the French hypermarkets. Also found out about Alizee and Mylene Farmer that way, and Italian singer Laura Pausini. Some good stuff out there in mainland Europe.
Here we go James! Tori just dropped this, a Tori produced cover of Something In Your Eyes. She re-recorded the vocal and added harmonies. Fresh piano track from Drew Larsen who played at the church for her and others. Video and pictures from the event, she even synced to herself but the audio is new. Will you do a natural Tori!? You know the significance of this song, right? I’m assuming you do. ❤ Joe ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3JP9CNs9YV4.htmlsi=t3K7O-OLjpg3-ZDZ .

Hi James, usually when introducing an older (gray hair) Carpenters fan to Tori. I ask, have you taken your meds. Are you seated? Do you have tissues at the ready. You’re younger so, I’m sorry!! I was introduced to her last October by the miracle that is Algorithms. It’s been a ride ever since! This collaboration with Jim Wilkas, you stopped right before the credits! Is to me an OG Carpenters fan (I’m 68) a masterpiece. It was intentionally made as a note for note recreation. With Tori’s natural voice (no autotune or pitch correction) why wouldn’t you? To prove Tori’s cred. In late April, Tori was the youngest (20) singer invited to participate as a vocalist at the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration. She and a group of other artists performed on The Acoustic Night. Just singer and piano. It was magnificent and Tori sang two songs. Something In Your Eyes, which you should know is the song Karen never sang, she died as it was being composed. And Yesterday Once More. I was there with a near front seat and recorded Tori. It’s not perfect but pretty good. The two songs together run 7 minutes. Not sure if it’s something you’d want to follow up with but I gotcha if you do. There’s other material including original songs. So she’s a little rabbit hole of a magical voice. BTW she has a whole bunch of short videos of various covers. She can cover Olivia Newton-John with respect. She sings the music of the 60’s - 80’s primarily. Also some new ones that are original. I do try to ask people who know Carpenters as especially on this song, it helps. She’s a lot more than that but, let’s face it, she has the tone to give Karen covers justice and love and respect. Did I say she’s a Carpenters super-fan? Yup, she has one helluva memorabilia collection. In her room and studio the walls and shelves have a lot of Carpenters stuff. She’s the real deal. Here’s the link to the live from a few weeks ago. BTW look at the thumbnail. Yes she met Richard! He was a surprise guest on the last night of the 4 night event. Oh and Tori’s RU-vid channel is her name. Jim’s channel hosts this video, he produced it. Joe ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uC-psDgHl0c.htmlsi=OkrBOerorOsu0FcY .
thank you, Mark! James has been on my radar for Tori, for a long time. It all came together, now. I too have been a long time follower. Through it all. I knew he would melt (right JB?) and I was here for it. There’s a few other long time Carpenter’s loving reactors, I keep trying but some are out of my range. Their shields are too high for me to get through. James was just right. 😉 Now he goes on the journey. We got ya James! ❤️ It was lonely for a long time, then in February it started to break open. I just saw a brand new reactor make his very first reaction, this video! Not a true reaction, more of a sharing of his find. Joe
@@jbs256 Of course it’s her own voice (which is beautiful) but maybe be a singer in her own right, singing her own music rather than playing on the fact you sound like someone else?!
@@lindabateman1357 she has! A little research will show a library of short videos covering the era and some originals and covers of artists she sounds nothing like. But, Carpenters is deep inside her. Look at her surroundings at home. Carpenters memorabilia everywhere. Once you understand and Richard does, it’s special. She’s special.
