It happens on all brands, but these GEs had crappy terminals and undersized wires from the factory. So there's millions out there with this wire that's gonna burn up eventually

@@bensappliancesandjunk Unfortunately the purple wire in the WE49X37037 kit is no better than the original.

@@tonybbq5212 my understanding was/is that the OEM wire in the unit is 14awg, and this new wire is 12awg. Am I wrong?

Right, that's a valid way to fix it, but my understanding is the original wire is 14awg and this is 12awg so there's a higher likelihood of a problem elsewhere if its not totally replaced. But obviously a new properly-spec'd terminal is great, too.

That's sop on speed Queen dryers that burn the wire off the heater. They even sell an alliance part with the wires and wire nuts.

@@BraxGamingYT Yeah. Actually ended up getting a new dryer (after 13 months), May sound crazy, but I don’t want to do this again in 1 year. Of course, no guarantees

@@JohnEllsworth i eventually got it. Then in the process of putting it back together got cut by the sheet metal several times and dropped one of the hex screws inside and i was not about to take it apart again. Its working again. But dont have high hopes on it lasting. If it breaks again im getting a non ge dryer as well.

Great idea! My father not always told me if you break something down so far. Just fix the potential breaking points before you put it back together.

Can use a standard terminal wire potentially but allegedly many of them use a sub standard gage so the reccomendation is to replace it all

Sadly you need the entire assembly. I'm unaware of any replacement spades for this that would mate with this style coil system. There used to be GE re string kits for the old ones that was a wire for the heat pan but they changed to this design... 6 years ago?

I work for GE Appliances as a technician. Just replacing the purple wire (especially if the heater connection is damaged) will most likely cause the same problem eventually. ALWAYS change the heater and purple wire which now comes with both parts in the kit (WE49X37817)

@@evand320 thanks for the info. WE49X37817 is unavailable at every retailer I've seen. We sell a few of the purple heater wires through our site, so I can update everything to include that note, but I've had other GE techs say wire only unless its under warranty... But I understand why you'd want to use both.

Check and make sure wiring from cord to terminal block is good. Then check for any wires that are exposed, grounding to the metal

Through my store, its free shipping for $25. At wholesale, these are very, very expensive for the fact its just a wire. I am trying to find a supplier in bulk where I can resell them for $12 + S&H or something like that, as most other stores are wanting $27+ shipped.

@@bensappliancesandjunk the GE part # WE49X37817 is a heavier 12awg black wire that replaces the undersized purple wire. I believe it dose also include the heater assembly.

@@tonybbq5212 the standalone wire in the video is 12awg (the original one installed on earlier models was 14awg). WE49X37817 is very rarely available from what I've seen from many stores sadly.

As an appliance repair guy who has worked on many of these GE I have a couple things to say. If you dont wear gloves you will definitely donate blood as Ive found this dryer to be the worst in metal fab n design. Secondly I dont know why all these videos continue to call post 2016 GE appliances GE. They ARE NOT GE!! GE sold out appliances to Chinese manufacturers Haier . All GE appliances are Haier designed and built which is why I consider all new GE appliances 🐕💩. Im surprised Ben still calls them by GE. I sent Ben info on GE front load washer door boot design defect which he still hasnt addressed in a video yet.

1) No one calls them Haier, because no one calls Maytag's, Whirlpools, or Kenmores by whatever the manufacturer is. Its a brand name. Also, most of the parts are fabricated by Mabe, so it would be more apt to call them Mabe. 2) I don't have any GE front load washers to do any videos on, and haven't for awhile. I have no idea what you're even talking about. Even then, when I get a GE front loader there are far more important, likely problems to address.

@stevea6936 dude, you stole my line, lol. GE is still labeled GE, so it's a GE. They are making the standard top loads and dryers just as cheap as they have been for years. Now, the other manufacturers have adopted the GE design of suspension rods and thin metal, and paint that rusts out in a year or so. I used to brag that Whirlpool and Speed Queen are the best, but I have had plenty of problems with all brands under Whirlpool, especially Maytag boards. I've had both a Maytag and a Whirlpool in the past week have failures with the stupid pressure switch on the board. It fails, and the washer gets stuck in flood mode, and all the tricks on RU-vid and the internet won't work. Maytag boards fail so often that they get on backorder. Then, of course, there is the weak place in them shown in Ben's video with the cleaning kit. I also love Speen Queen but the lid lock is terrible, and I've seen board failures and rusty outer tubs on 3 year old washers. At least SQ has the best warranties. But, with that said, I have Whirlpool coming out to replace a Whirlpool top load washer board on Monday. I have had them come out about 5 times to honor their one year warranty, and these are machines I've bought wholesale. The most recent one was 2 weeks out of warranty, but they honored it anyway. All large companies get bought and sold throughout history,look up the history of beer.
