Update: The part where i say stats increases are global and dont matter what weapon you have equipped appears to be incorrect. The stats you gain will only take effect when you equip the weapon
This is so confusing. Don’t know why they changed it. What made it even more confusing is that when you go to the tutorial/manual in-game, you see a photo of the previous upgrading system. Seriously weird. Thank you very much for your video.
Exactly they show the old system and make u think its still in the game but clearly its been removed but they really dont tell you much about the weapon upgrades so im glad this video was helpful for you
What’s confusing about it? You automatically get the upgrades instead of unlocking them individually like remake did. Just have to level up. This system is more powerful than remake imo
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 slotting unique 5+ skills of your choice to a weapon unlike remakes mandatory weapon choice is ten times better in my opinion. In remake I wanted some of those unique skills to different weapons I was using. Couldn’t do it
"Upgrade Weapons" as a menu selection is confusing and misleading. Its naming convention implies that you, the player, would be able to upgrade said weapons. They need to change "Upgrade Weapons" to just "Weapons" or Weapon Stats" or something along those lines.
i couoldnt agree more idk why they put in the menu to begin with considering the player has almost no control over it and its all automatic and passive
Weapon upgrades are objectively WORSE in this game than in Remake. I don't know why they changed it. Seems more confusing, less customizable, and just another menu to navigate vs actually enjoying the upgrade system like the last game. So far this and performance mode are the only gripes I have with the game. Everything else is amazing though
one thing that confused me is it mentioned something about using them to lvel them individually but wasn't seeign anything like that the weapon level was the same regardless of what weapon I used.
No, the stat boosts are only counted towards that particular weapon. Just like you only get a materia slot and weapon skill slot if indicated for that weapon only and not the others as well.
correct i posted an update when this video was made alot of people did not know what was which since the game really dont tell you much about the weapon upgrade system at all
Thanks for the explanation I was going crazy trying to find how to spend the SP to pick new skills but turns out you don’t do that. It was a lot more intuitive in Remake.
**As you level up, your weapon will go up 1 level at the same time** That is my conclusion. Weapon Upgrade menu should be called Weapon Skills. I'm still confused af whenever I see weapon upgrade. It maybe a translation error. Also, weapon proficiency needs to be 100% to keep the new weapon ability permanent.
I liked the old way better. I wouldn’t mind a new look for the menu because I wasn’t really liking the galaxy and planets thing I don’t know what that had to do with weapons but the buying skills or stats in different ways made me feel I was really upgrading the stuff to how I preferred.
What I hate is the sp on weapons being showed with the max. Seeing "10/20 sp" makes me assume it's just like folio sp, where you spend sp on stuff, and I have 10 left after spending 10 on something.... But it's actually just the sp needed to get to the next level..... Of ALL weapons, not just the currently equipped one... Which is different than proficiency level???
its the same u just play and get them no more depth than that dont over think it. its way toned down from the 1st game. u just need to remember to equip new ones u unlock
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 oh yeah, I understand how it works, I just hate it. It's more like exp and AP than Sp, because you don't "buy" anything with it. You just unlock it when you get certain milestone points. Sp on characters via the books is the only thing you "buy" and it's the only other thing that uses sp. So it bugs me lol I like consistency
My question is am I only able to have one weapon skill for every single weapon in the game or am I able to unlock another weapons skill slot because it says at bottom right of the screen weapons, skill,& stat boost at upcoming level Weapon, skills stat boost but I just don’t know how to unlock it
you will get more weapon skill slots as u level up the party level and do quests in the game. yes those skill and stats boosts. the stats u just passively get and the new weapon skills u will be able to use. Some weapons get a 2nd skill slot sooner than others tho. i have weapons have areith that have 3 mean while some only still have 2
Honestly I actually am getting more of the hang of the new upgrade system, so when you upgrade your weapon, on the bottom right hand corner you can see what you'll be getting next, what weapon skill and stat boost, and if I'm guessing correctly that weapon skill and stat boost, so for an example my buster sword is at level 3, when it reaches level 4, the weapon skill i will get next is mp recovery rate up and my stat boost is that my attack increases by 9
So it tells you what you'll be getting in the next weapon levels, that's just my opinion though I don't know if I'm right, but that's the way I see it, it even says on gold/yellow print, weapon skill & stat boosts at upcoming level
It has a very bad tutorial explanation. Like I said in a previous comment, I’m almost positive this was changed late into the development of the game for whatever reason, so what you have is remnants of the original upgrade system and why it’s still titled “upgrade weapons”. I believe they changed it so that whenever you hit the next weapon level, it just unlocks all the nodes that would’ve been associated with that weapon core. Really bad decision to take player choice away, even if it was very minor in the grand scheme of things.
You need to increase your party level and also increase the levels of the weapons but that will just happen by playing the game and doing quests and getting party xp
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 awesome. Thank you! I fully cleared the first map and did all the VR sims. I just got to Junon and still only had 1 node. I just thought it seemed weird but I am still really early in the game. Thanks again, I’ll keep going
This was a great video! Thanks. If you see this comment, I am curious about linked materia slots. I've seen videos with two linked materia slots for the Sleek Saber. I only have one thus far. I was wondering if I unlock it in folios or does a new linked materia slot appears after a certain level? Thanks again.
When the tutorial first popped up, I thought I don't need a tutorial for that I played the last game. Then I went to level up my weapon and I'm like wtf is this
So, I'm like 15 hours in, and have almost exclusively been playing as Cloud, and i just noticed that nobody else is learning their weapon ability as i go. Does that only increase if you actually switch to them?
yes u have to tell them to use that skill to learn it you mean the mastery of the weapon skill right? once they use they skill like 5 to 10 times they will master it but if u dont command them to use it they wont
they will auto add when u level up the weapon. unlike the remake version where u had to buy them with sp to unlock them. they will just unlock on the weapon level up but you will need to slot weapon skills
No the star boosts do not share among each other… each weapons have different final stats e.g buster sword is an overall balanced final stat, rune blade final stats add more to your magic
yeah it seems like they may not early on release people thought it did but it might be different than was thought but like the wepaon upgrade system you have no real indication from the game if its true or not lol
just shows u the passive stats and new weapon skills u will get when u level up. the only thing you control or can change is what weapon skills you have equipped and its all tied to the weapons level which all weapons share the same level
Damn people guess this generation don’t read lmao . This was explained when you first do upgrade weapons and you can go to the manual in the game. It’s a in game manual, and it tells you this too lol. But yeah, the weapon upgrade system was better in the remake
They fumbled the weapon upgrades. It was better in FF7 Remake. Why did they give us a weapon upgrade tutorial when you can't upgrade the weapons? Why is there even a screen labeled "Upgrade weapons" that does literally nothing.
weapon will earn Sp as u play and will level up on its own. you just need to make sure you equip ur weapon skills and change em when u equip a new weapon
Aside from getting the weapon ability and more materia slots, WHAT THE HECK is the point in equipping a new weapon if the stats are worse??? Am I dumb?😭 almost every time I get a new weapon the attack is like 30 lower than the one I got equipped. That makes me just stick with the one I got.
every video seems to explain the other confusing stuff and I’m grateful, but this I still don’t get??? Why do I have to use a WORSE weapon and level it up first? No other games does this. Am I missing something?
Ok I literally skipped the tutorial because there was an image of Remake's system so I went "oh ok same as the last game". Clearly...it isn't. And I didn't understand what the manual was telling me when I looked there. So there's....nothing really to do except choose a weaponskill? Kinda boring compared to the last game....
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 Also not a fan of the folio system being only accessible at certain locations compared to being able to upgrade my weapons at any time from the main menu. I just don't understand this decision; I quite enjoyed the previous system.
No that’s just what they named the menu for upgrade settings. Even having it turned to manual it’ll still say auto-upgrade settings. When you open it you’ll get 4 choices, manual - balanced - prioritize attack - prioritize defense
I don't know what the devs are smoking when they made this. They changed it for the sake of changing something and it doesn't sync and explain well with the interface.
I don't think the passive stat boosts are global. If buster sword gives you 250 hp for instance, you don't retain it if you switch to another weapon. Just like the weapon skills. It's the passive stat boosts along with the available weapon skills that give each weapon its flavor.
correct they are not global if you switch weapons im pretty sure i said this but maybe not lol but it seems others are saying they are global so i cant confirm since the game really dont confirm this to the player very well
@@faizedfoxgaming7426 You did explicitly say in the video that the passive stat boosts are "global" and "combined" - your words. Glad I scrolled down here because it made it sound like the boosts from all weapons were combined regardless of which weapon is equipped. Thanks for the video though, super helpful!
good to know thank you. the after looking more into it it does seem the stats are combined and global based of of other people testing it @@willjohn2321
just wanted to follow up looked into other forums and other people input and the only stats that are not global and carry from weapons are stats u slot into the weapon skill area like plus 20 magick attack or plus 250 hp. It seems the ones u slot are not global but all passives u just get by weapon leveling up are again no reall 100% proof but this is what the general internet thinks as of now could change
I skipped the tutorial and the in game tutorial is so confusing the the manual, I assumed it worked similarly to the previous game…. Why is there even a tab to upgrade weapons when the slots for weapon skills are in the equipment menu anyway… it’s just unnecessary.
I agree idk what the deal is why even have the tab when it does almost nothing and im sure most people thought it worked the same as the first game as well
the crazy thing is it used on both so you dont need to do anything really other than just level up and earn more. You cant control the sp used on weapons its all passive and makes use of total sp. Folio you can just spend it all on that and not worry
Old way was better we had control over what we got to upgrade & felt more RPG like. This is basically just a useless menu besides being able to equip the skill.
This is a terrible system. I get why they'd move on from Remakes idea because of having so many weapons and now characters, the sphere-style system would be exhausting but this is beyond stupid. I'm sitting here thinking I missed something but really, it's just a set and forget? What is happening?
This new system is stupid. Should have kept it the same. Classic example of fixing something that didn't need fixing. Can't choose what I want and not get my slots early.
i dislike this system a lot. you dont do anything but assign one of many skills. and all your weapons share the same lvl. the whole menu is kinda useless because you can assign skills where you assign materia....this is really dumbed down. devs are so afraid these days to let the player make choices.
@@faizedfoxgaming7426well that folio system is also weird. this all seems like many FF system throwen together just badly. they could have just left the old weapon system and let people reset nodes just like in the folio. got the weapon ability thing from IX got the sphero grid clone from X i did not buy remake because you are stuck in midgar for 50 hours. this one is more open but very "ubisoft" in its design. not sure if that was a good idea. So far i am not convinced. combat is awesome but the RPG stuff is very modern.
