Get some 143 ELD X's loaded by Hendershots Custom ammo in Maryland, he's been shooting that round since it was a wildcat round, My Vanguard First Lite shot 3-4 inch groups with Weatherby factory ammo, it shoots 3/4 in groups with Hendershots ammo.

This is like a 6.5 creedmor in a 338 Lapua casing. Frickin awesome round!!!

It is impressive, When it was first released, I said to myself - I guess I will have to buy another gun, but it was only available in the Mark V, which I love, just not in my budget at the time ( or now ). The Vanguard is in my price range.

its a 6.5 bullet in a 300 weatherby case thats why its called the 6.5 300wby not 6.5 338 lap dummy

6.5-300 doesn't kick that bad at all. Ive shot a few 6.5-300's and my .338 is way worse.

If you put a brake on it the recoil is about 2506 level !

I think the 7 mm Rem Mag is probably the most for versatile and popular Magnum, I always recommend it for people who want just one big game rifle; it's suitable for all North American big game . It's not Over chambered too much but you would definitely want a 26-inch Barrel and like you say it's easier to find ammo and cheaper than Weatherby ammo. I have an old Winchester model 70 and 7 mm Rem Mag, I'm actually refinishing it right now. I used to have a 7 mm Ultra Mag in a Remington stainless steel, it was pretty nice but I didn't like the cartridge and it was very over chamber. The Ultra Mag was really hard to get shells into the magazine because they are so long and fat, I sold that gun and bought another I can't remember which one replaced the ultra. I don't have a 338 Lapua I tried one out and also 338-378 Weatherby at the same time, they do kick a lot and ammo is very expensive, I think I will stick with my 340 Weatherby, it performs really close to the other two with a lot less powder.

@Ginger Baker I'm not a fan of the 308, but the 308 is pretty versatile cartridge as well and ammo is about as cheap as any Centerfire ammo you can find. I had a 7 - 08 for a while and I liked that a little bit better , it was faster than the 308 but I'm not sure if it would be suitable for Elk. The 7-08 , the 308 the 260 and the 243 all use the same case. They are a lot easier on the shoulder then the magnums and most long action, I know people have used the 7-08 and the 308 for elk and moose. I prefer all four of those cartridges to a 6.5 Creedmoor because I think that the 6.5 Creedmoor is so overrated it's ridiculous and ammo is pretty expensive for it as well.

@Ginger Baker An excellent book that has a ton of information, loading data and history, is called -"Cartridges Of The World"-. I have four editions of it; currently Cartridges of the world, 15th Edition by Frank C Barnes, is the newest version, I believe. The book is comprised of stories and a write-up including the history every cartridge in the world, with pictures and charts. It explains some of the confusion in cartridge names vs calibers and even shotgun shells. I strongly suggest everybody buy this book, the paperback edition is about $25 us and well well worth it.

Not if you buy the ammunition from weatherby. Casings for my 300 weatherby were almost 90 dollars and thats just brass

That thing does kick. At least it grouped in the same area. =) What scope would you recommend for an M-4 AR for hunting? I'm so busy doing other things I have not gotten around to studying up on guns in a while. Going to be hunting hogs in the next twenty-four months after I finish up all the work that has to be done on this place.

On AR style guns, I like 1-6 or 1-8 power straight tube 30mm scopes, with an illuminated tactical reticle. Scorpion Venom Max 1-6 tactical, is one of my most popular scopes. Vortex & Leopold also make a real nice one in 1 to 8 or 1 to 6 but they are bigger names and more expensive, I don't believe the quality is better in the former two. Your M4, is it a military selective fire M4? Either way a 1 to 6 power would be my recommendation. Thanks again for watching; I also appreciate your videos, you do a great job. I am 13 and shoot a 35 whelen with a muzzle brake would I be able to handle this round I’ve shot 45-70s and 12 gauge slugs with no problem ?
@Wheelchair-bear
@Wheelchair-bear 3 года назад
I would think that you would have no problem with this cartridge in a regular Vanguard or Mark V. The wilderness stock is very light and does result in a little more kick. It kicks about the same as my South Gate California 300 Weatherby, which was my first deer gun when I was 14. It has a sharper kick than a 45-70 or a 12 gauge with a slug. You're probably growing so fast right now that - by next year it would be no problem at all, you may need a shoulder pad for one year.

6.5-300 is lighter in recoil than the 35 whelen by 4 ft/lbs. 140gr/225gr respectively

For good accuracy, 1/2moa etc, you really need to 'break in' the barrel, 5 shots cleaning after every shot, then say three 3-shot clusters, cleaning after each cluster - i.e. about 14 shots. 'Cleaning', means repeatedly wire brushing (say 25 back and forths; make sure the brush is wet) and running a patch through until there is practically no powder residue showing on the patch. The first few shots are really dirty - needing many brushing/patching cycles. Let the barrel 'talk' to you i.e. don't give up brushing/patching, brushing/patching, brushing/patching, until the patch comes out clean! The idea is to coat the inside walls of the bore with a stable copper lining. You brush/patch to get as much of the powder out of the bore before the next fouling shot, in order to get a smoother more stable copper lining. I used to just shoot the gun like you and often it would take over 100 shots to get better accuracy, and even then was not 1/2 moa ish. On the other hand, the last gun I broke in, Tikka 7mm, I didn't even aim at the target for the first 14 shots. I just performed the cleaning regime outlined above. Then, the first group was near 1/2 moa, vs the typical 1-3 moa variability I used to get for the first few boxes of ammo when I cleaned infrequently, and without a wire bursh .. Yes, and, as you say, with the thin lightweight mountain/backpacking barrels, need to let them cool pretty well, when you are going for group size. If you're near your truck, put the rifle on the dash and turn on the air conditioning, just takes a minute to cool! God's Love for Weatherby Velocity.

I dont record every thing, the method you describe is debatable. I run a clean bore snake through, after every 3 shots and then clean it properly after 12.
@GeorgeSemel
@GeorgeSemel 4 года назад
That is so much snake oil. I have done it in the past and I could never tell the difference.
@Wheelchair-bear
@Wheelchair-bear 4 года назад
@@GeorgeSemel Any older hunters (guys in their 60's, 70's or 80's) had never heard of breaking in barrels. I mounted a scope for a guy, on his Sako, it was 20 years old with about 100 rounds through it and NEVER cleaned! (Definitely not recommended). I cleaned it for him and got less than 1 MOA groups
@GeorgeSemel
@GeorgeSemel 4 года назад
@@Wheelchair-bear Well I am 65 years old, I shoot my rifles and properly clean after 10 to 15 shots. Since I shoot things like a 338 Winchester Mag that is a full range session and then some. during hunting season, I just run a bore snake thru once or twice, I will clean if the day was wet. More about rust prevention than not. Sako's are some of the best factory guns around, my 338 is a Sako 75 that still hold the zero when I bought it and sighted in back in 1996!
@Wheelchair-bear

So would you recommend this gun?? I’ve been wanting to get this exact same gun for over a year now and your the first video I have found on it
@Wheelchair-bear
@Wheelchair-bear 5 лет назад
As a hunting gun where the hunter is doing a lot of walking, I would recommend it, it is light and it seems to be fairly accurate. Out of all my weatherby's it is my least favorite because the stock is really fat and doesn't fit me like my other Weatherby's. (I have two markV's, two Vanguards, a Mark 17 and an original Southgate.) I like the cartridge but should have bought the gun in either the Badlands or just a regular Vanguard, ( Mark V' s are too expensive now ), that is just my preference. If you have really big hands , require a light wait gun and can handle a fair bit of recoil I would recommend it for hunting. I think for target shooting the barrel heats up a little bit too fast, it's very small diameter. I had been looking for something in a 6.5 -300 for 3 years prior to this gun. I ordered this one online so I never handled one before it arrived in the mail. I was a little disappointed because I expected it to fit me like all the other weatherby's.
@joshdennis8841
@joshdennis8841 5 лет назад
I’ve got really small hands for a guy so I may have to look at a different style of the 6.5-300 like you said. Recoil doesn’t bother me much at all
@Wheelchair-bear
@Wheelchair-bear 5 лет назад
@@joshdennis8841 just the regular Vanguard with the rubber grip forearm and and Pistol grab is a pretty nice feeling gun and it is guaranteed accuracy the same as this one. I think it's about $400 cheaper and it comes in 6-5 300 I'm going to probably buy a stock from a regular Vanguard and see if I can get it to fit on this gun

Alot? Bod? I don't know what you are asking. I will try to produce the high quality content, such as your perfect written English-language and spelling. Maybe you could help me, by producing a video of your own, explaining how to do what you are telling me to do; but until you have some actual content of your own maybe you should stop criticizing others, if that was a criticism, I don't know, because it wasn't English.
