Spoiler: I think this movie shows how wrongly we perceive life. It's not about trying to achieving your goals will result to happiness but embracing life (positive and negative) as it is will lift the burden and even take us further. We humans are too invested to our goals/ambitions (sunshine) that we forgot the reality (rain), that's why Tokyo sunk in water in the end because that's the way it should be. Hina was trying too hard to lift Nagi and later on Hodaka and the other people from life of misery that resulted to her own danger. Later on, Hodaka realized he was asking too much of Hina's help and tried to save her life instead. They both realized that what they are trying to achieve(away from poverty) is not the answer to happiness but embracing the entire experience both good and bad. Keisuke represent's older version Hodaka who failed to realize he's stuck trying to achieve goals, didn't live his life very well, but later on had a redemption.

Lens flare, excessively detailed rain, separated lovers trying to reach each other, calming music... Yep, it's a Shinkai film. I'm looking forward to this.

This is probably my new favourite movie, I watched it while we had heavy rain and it really set the mood

"Who cares if the world doesn't see sunshine? I want you more than any blue sky" By far the best quote in the movie!

I haven't yet watched this movie. But this gives me a "deja vu" feeling. I was 18, I took good care of my grandpa in a hospital. I fell asleep and I dreamed. In my dream, it was gloomy and raining (I honestly hate rain) until I saw a guy with umbrella came closer, approaching me. Average height, cute and he's smiling. His face was blurry but I could clearly see his eyes.... And I know, when I meet you, I will recognize you. Until now, I'm single waiting for that guy in my dream. A guy that would bring sunshine in my rainy days.🥰

I have a feeling that this, A Silent Voice, and Your Name are gonna be the trio of amazing love story anime films to come out recently. All three are vastly different but if you're a fan of one of those movies, then chances are you're a fan of the other 2

I remember that after watching this movie, the heavy rain outside felt magical.

You know, Studio Ghibli etc was a REALLY big part of my childhood/adolescence and always will be.....but I gotta give my thanks for Shinkai Makoto and Hosoda Mamoru for coming around big time in the last decade (& some change), because their films ride me on a wave I haven't been since Catnapped!, Kiki & Spirited Away. ❤

Hate me all you want, this has a much satisfying ending than Your Name

It's not a Shinkai movie if there isn't any animation flex involving rain/water, pencil on paper and phones

I watched this movie a few weeks ago and let me tell you: just like Your Name, is not the kind of movie you forget about. I started crying 20 minutes into the movie because of how beautiful and artistic everything was and then never stopped. The comedy is on time, the emotions it provides you are so deep that I had a dehydration headache when it was over, and the way Makoto Shinkai uses the surroundings to tell the story is so powerful yet again. If you haven't watched it, do it!

Makoto Shinkai is the reason that I have started to find inner beauty in life. Now I aspire much more than just living a good, normal life. I want to inspire people like him. ☺️

When both of them were falling from the sky and the grand escape was playing in the background it was spine chilling!! The scenery, the music, the dialogues.... I HAD GOOSEBUMPS! Damn it was amazing This movie was a ride for sure
