Great vid. There was a $73 kit (hinge & seal gaskets) on Amazon and I caught it on sale for $23. It also showed up a week early. Keep an eye out for price drops
Thanks for the video, I watched it a couple times before attempting the hinge install on my smoker. Definitely helped me feel confident to drill all those holes
Wow, nicely done! I have a hinge on the way for my Kettle, can't wait to install it. (BTW, I'm sure you'd get way more hits for this great video if you gave it an appropriate title!)
Iman - I have had holes cut in my WSM for over 4 years now and no rust. Just add some high temp paint like he did (his was standard enamel not Rust-Oleum High Temp for grills). You will be fine. I have 12 holes drilled in my WSM between temp port, handles, hinges etc.
I drilled many holes in Weber products, smokey Joe's, master touch, WSM. I also had an old WBS from which a piece of enamal shattered due to too tight bolt. After a couple of years I sanded it an painted it. You know what? No rust. These things, even with rust, will last for years. Even if you modify it and it'll break down after 7 years because you did a bad job, the mods are worth it! When you do get rust for whatever reason: clean it sand it down, cover the unit except the sanded part + spray overlap, spray the sanded part and defuse to the edge to allow for overlap. Optional: Afterwards polish to get perfect finish.
