In August 2021, a group of international diabetes experts released a groundbreaking consensus statement defining diabetes remission. The group included representatives from around the world, including from the American Diabetes Association® (ADA), the Endocrine Society, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, and Diabetes UK.
The efforts to better define diabetes remission comes on the heels of heightened focus on diabetes remission. That’s because achieving diabetes remission holds enormous value for payers and patients alike. It also represents a completely different treatment outcome compared to traditional forms of diabetes management, which focus on blood glucose control through high-cost medications.
There are multiple well-known clinical strategies for achieving diabetes remission, ranging from bariatric surgery, to calorie restriction, to low carbohydrate diets. In this webinar, we address these specific interventions, as well as broader topics around the definition and need for increased focus and investment in diabetes remission.

I watch developments in the D2T remission and what has been achieved to date.. I am South African and nothing of this type has developed here, The practice here has mostly been diabetes management i.e Just waiting to die while you suffer other effects of diabetes. I really appreciate the webinar.

Hmmm. By the new criteria of A1C below 6.5, I guess I am in remission. For the last 24 years! I was diagnosed in 1998 and started keto right away (Atkins then) and have kept up mostly. My A1C has been around 5.2 to 5.8. Something I noticed 4 years ago is that it is mostly driven by the glucose my liver makes in the am, not eating. Make no mistake, I was very fat and sick in 1998 and that person comes back if I stop eating very low carb.

Regardless of glucose level (other than very high levels consistent with Type 1), I would make the criteria fasting insulin less than 6 and post prandial insulin less than 70. If not you got diabetes!

Any calcium scoring or atherosclerosis study for the keto patients, since many develop an increase in LDL

As a controlled type 2 diabetic eating 90% carnivore/ 10% veggies, and taking Metformin twice daily at 500 mg each and eating 3 eggs per day pasture raised. Is it likely still that I’m losing B-12 due to the Metformin ? Thank you !

You had me until you got to the part of declaring "Victory" when A1c gets down to 6.5%. That's like saying your weight is controlled with a BMI of 30 or you're on a low-carb diet if you eat only 200g per day. Sure, you'll see some improvements if you started higher - but trouble still lurks ahead. FAIL.

My results. SartingA!c 12.0 I did take metformin for 1.5 years. Now after 14 years on very Low carb way of eating. After 2 years A1c 7 from year 2 to 14 6.0 A1c or less. No diabetes meds 30 to 50 carbs day and exercise 5 days a week. 76 years active now and no problem continuing low carb eating. (Except first months of the pendemic when access to quality food was iffy and gyms were and still mostly closed. I talked with virta. , did not need them
