@@Kcorrr I think parents deserve closure. You are kind of taking away their daughter in a sense. The father is going to always want to protect their daughter if they are a good father. The mother is usually the same with their son. So to answer your questions, daughters are daughters.. cant see how being respectful to the parents labels the spouse as an object. Really the "objectifying" would come from literally not having the spouse's 'decision considered, but that's what a proposal is for. I think men should ask the girlfriends father by default, yes. If they do not have a father or father figure they should ask their mother, grandpa, grandma, uncle, aunt, older brother, and so on. Whoever really deserves to have a say and needs closure knowing that they are respected by the person who wishes to marry. However, if in the case they do not say yes and your spouse still wants to get married, then that is where I say that at the end of the day the permission doesn't really matter, then I state legalities which state that you cannot be under the age of 18 and get married unless both parents/guardians give permission. If a woman were to want to propose to a man, asking the mom of the person she wishes to marry actually makes sense. With the question being "who raises the daughter" "who gives birth" you are implying that perhaps the mother should have more say than what would be normal. The mother may disapprove of a proposal and the father may approve; this is true. Vice versa. Still doesn't change the order in which who to ask. I was not raised in a way to think to ask the mother before the father or to ask both at the same time. I think most people are raised to think the same that I do, to ask the father.

Following up on the bullshit of "wHo RaiSed her" "WhO biRthEd hEr" right... because we really need to make sure that she came out of the mother figures vagina before I ask someone to marry me. She could have a stepmom. Could be adopted. Why would we have to factor in those things. It just complicates the simplicity that is respecting the father with her daughter. THAT has been going on for almost 300 years. See nothing wrong with it.

Nothing is disrespectful about asking the father. The mother really should be glad that he asked her husband. Think of it more as tradition than a social standard, even though it has become one. If the circumstances arise where asking the father makes less sense, then I think he would ask the mother. Simple as that. Why would you assume that asking the father indicates that he does not respect the mother when asking the mother has never been the standard?
