TIMESTAMPS BELOW
We have made this series to share some of the details behind our conversions which will hopefully be useful for self builders. Each week we will post a video of the progress of our current build including the methods, appliances used and the order we are doing things.
We do have a team of 4 so you could expect everything to take a little longer if you are working alone!
This conversion is of a Citroen Relay L3H2 and it will be transformed into our Milo dinette model layout.
TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Intro to the series
0:55 Planning - layout and appliances
2:25 Cutting holes - windows, rooflights and inlets
8:38 1st Fix utilities - cable runs and water tanks
13:21 Insulation and door cads - closed cell foam, ceiling and floor insulation
If you want to follow the progress live, follow our Instagram stories here / vanlifeconversionsuk
See more information about the spec of this model www.vanlifeconversions.co.uk/...
Do let us know if there are any areas you particularly want us to focus on filming in the comments below

Of all the van conversion channels on RU-vid, this has been my favourite. So many great tips and inspiration for our conversion last year, and so helpful to get some insight into how to do each task professionally, what tools are used etc. This series is going to be invaluable to others doing the same thing, please keep doing what you're doing!

This is just fantastic. You are amazing craftsmen and I wish I could afford your finished products. But thanks to your amazing guidance I am feeling encouraged to start my own van build ready in time for spring/summer. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge. ❣ If you have a self-build book please let us know because I would definitely buy that !!!

Top quality work you make everything look so simple! How do you attach the door cads? Do you use self drilling screws straight into the metal or do you fix some battens?

EXCELLENT video ! We’ve watched literally 100’s of hours of van build videos and this stands out at the top. Defo keep sharing these please! Very professional work, and professional presentation. Thank you. Question: What is the make and model of the skylight you used please? Edit: Found it :) For anyone wondering: Micro heki rooflight (I think lol)

Awesome, thank you so much! Yes that's right the micro heki

Hi ollie following your L3 conversion for roof fan. I'm a bit puzzled I have a L3 but I have an extra strut on the roof so my maxair fan is a bit close to the back .

Hi Oli, I liked your conversations. I'll contact you for my van conversation for sure. I have also a general question. I saw many conversation videos all around, but none of them explain what are they doing with the screws. In my opinion, when you screw/make a hole on the van as the paint is removed at this area, over time it will potentially rust. Shouldn't we paint them after? Or dipping the screw in paint or doing something special before fixing it? Just curiosity. I'd like to take advantage of your experiences. Thanks.

I have the same van (but a few years older) and I'm doing a camper van conversion. One question: how do you deal with the sills on the floor level? My van collects dirt and water and they start to rust.

Hi oli , could you tell me where you got the closed cell foam from please in the insulating guide. Also the sound deadening you used. Great job love the attention to detail in your builds and am working on a seb version 👍

Thanks for the support. We purchased the closed cell foam and sound deadening from www.carinsulation.co.uk/category/car-sound-proofing-auto-sound-absorbing-materials We hope your build goes well

Hi, Great video- thanks! What was the tool that your colleague is using at 14.43 to put grooves in the ply you're using for the door cads please? Thank you!
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 2 года назад
Hi, thanks for your kind words. It’s called a palm router (sometimes called a trim router). You can purchase different shaped “bits” for different jobs. The “V groove” bit is what we use on the plywood walls and door cards. All the best

Great video!! What water tanks are these? Are they specific to the van or just standard sizes?
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 2 года назад
They are from Barratt tanks - highly recommend them. They make them to order depending on the van model. These are 83L fresh and 60L waste

Question re. Insulation - I've purchased 8mm closed cell foam with a foil front layer and adhesive back (10mm above the cab). Whilst I know that 8mm thickness combined with the PIR boards will be enough to insulate properly, should I be using the non-foil neoprene sheet as you have? Will the extra layer of foil create a problem with creating the vapour barrier? Great series thanks!
@vanlifeconversions
@vanlifeconversions 11 месяцев назад
No we often use the foil backed one too👍
