You basically just articulated one of my worst fears/worries about going to med school. I’m also a people pleaser, non-confrontational, and thinks that I’m not of the same “level” as my peers regarding to many aspects. I worry that if I do decide to go to med school, I won’t be able to survive all the pressure. It’s so so refreshing to hear your affirmation and determination, makes me feel a bit hopeful.

Imposter syndrome is so real. Especially your first few weeks or even months as intern. Also, I love that you get into the more "dirty" details of surgical residency. Most medical students even people on acting internships or away rotations are really only there part time and even then most of the attendings will let them scrub into cases way more than your average pgy1 or 2 or even 3 sometimes. Educating our current generation of students what the actual life of a surgical resident is like will hopefully decrease the amount of physician suicide and also general surgery residency drop out rates in the future.

8:48 You can also just cut the grapefruit in half, sprinkle (a lot of) sugar on top and then eat it with a spoon. In Germany, we have grapefruit-spoons that have a knife-like part, which makes it easier to cut into the grapefruit. Let me tell you, it's really fun if you dig around for a spoon to eat your ice-cream with and you accidentally reach for a grapefruit-spoon. :D

Love when your videos come up. America, I've watched your videos since the beginning and continue to root you on! As for the sense of knowing when things are going to go wrong, it comes with time. Being an ICU nurse I can generally get a gut feeling when something is about to happen and I've learned to listen to it because I'm usually right. New grads or those who doubt themselves on their ability and what they know, I promise you, you know more than you think you do. If you get that gut feeling that something isn't right with your patient, do or say something because you very well could be right and are able to fix something before it truly starts. Believe in your abilities and have faith in yourself!

Massive congrats on finishing internship year!!! I've talked to people at our hospital who have been providers, nurses etc. for decades and even still they have some imposter syndrome. I think it's a very natural part of being human, and it's hard as hell too when we're still so young and all of a sudden in a flash we've gone from being a college student to having an insane amount of responsibility. You're going to love looking back at these when you're in your 50s and you're some big surgeon somewhere, and you'll probably still be wondering how the heck did I get here but the amazing thing about medicine is how it involves this steady, constant growth both in ourselves and in our career.

I do have some advice or words to say to undergrads or anyone who hasn't started any schooling. . . YOU CAN DO IT. I am an untraditional student myself. I just turned 25 and am 2 years into my undergrad. Life happens but DONT LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS. I know that's a meme but I am serious. Forget about any stigma society has placed. Don't let obstacles determine your path, you decide for yourself. I am from an undocumented family and we had our struggles but knowing I am working towards my dream is the most motivating thing ever. I might start vlogging my journey. People like America, god bless our queen, has helped me keep my head up. I want to be a beacon of light for hopefuls as well...
