You are correct, but some casts had more charm than others. I think it depends on when the person grew up as well. I will always be partial to the 90's. Like the whole decade was great to me.

When the preponderance of the jokes fall flat, it says something. No one expects 100%, but when you're PAID to be funny... One glaring flaw that has been there for decades now is the inability to "end" a skit. So many of them just fizzle out. It could well be they put way too much energy into politics, promoting a partisan agenda (TEACHING US WHAT WE SHOULD BELIEVE, BECAUSE THEY KNOW SO MUCH BETTER), and actually just being mean-spirited. Where is the fun. silly stuff like Belushi's Bumblebee, the Nerds, Whiners, and Coneheads, or cheerleaders as played by Will Farrell and Cheri Oteri?

That's a good distinction, Joey. I watched a recent tribute to Mary Tyler Moore, and she makes the same one: when praised by Lucille Ball, she noted that Lucy was an actual comedian, while she, herself, was an actress trying to be funny.

Joey Verso one at a time. i have been watching since the mid-eighties. seen it go from good to bad to just ok many times. chappelle show is not a fair comparison just like Key and peele isn't. those shows are not live. they don't have a guest host. they have weeks, months, even years to develop material. Completely different animal. break out stars like Sandler are rare. most of the cast is new/ young.

They did it before when Jeff Richards (the first SNL cast member who started out on MADtv) was on SNL. Of course, the Jeff Richards example is also ironic, as MADtv is often seen as a rival to SNL. Damn it, man. They should have brought Alex Moffat back as Franken when Franken resigned in disgrace over sexual misconduct.

I'm still registered Dem, as a matter of fact. Need to change that, I guess, though I'm mostly an independent. Every person, and every issue, should be judged by his/its own merit. When Franken worked as a comedian, I found him only mildly amusing. As a senator, I haven't seen much, but am not particularly impressed by what I have seen. Few of us have the time to do an in-depth analysis of every public figure.
