Probably the best power ballad ever done and definitely my favorite Weezer song. A close second would be "I just threw out the love of my dreams" and "Across the Sea".
The fade out/back in, in this song expresses more emotion musically then any song I have ever heard. It manages to show case anger, pain, frustration, and love all at the same time.
Coincidentally, i used to listen to all of this album but for some reason never played this song, the last song on the album of course. Me my gf and my buddy and hs gf, all very close, were heading home from pre prom dinner and he insisted we play this. My mind was blown. Cant believe i overlooked it for all those years. Great times. (This was 2003)
saw them play this live in cincinnati last july, one of the fans threw a cape onto the stage and someone from security took it off the stage, Rivers bent down and told him to hand it to him, he put it on and wore it for the rest of the show, ill never forget that
Mo I saw them in San Diego a few years back and the set list was such a bummer. I was literally crushed they didn't do this song. How do you not do it every tour?! It's only one of their best songs ever.
These songs stand the test of time. I know they came out nearly two decades ago but I still play the blue album all day and everyday as if it's brand new!
The second time i listened to the song, since the first time i didn't really pay attention that much, it actually made me cry. There's something about those last 4 or so minutes that is just beyond words. This song just forces emotion out of me and i dont understand it.
i know i didn't live in the golden age like all of you, but i wish i could have. All I ever find myself listening to is Weezer. I was born in 99 and was introduced to Weezer by my older brother around when the xbox 360 came out around 2005 or 2006. he had the red and blue album on his playlist and they were the only thing i listened to when playing games. the blue album is my favorite to date, but none of the new albums. If there was one wish i could have it would be to see them play in concert.
Hey stranger from 14 years ago! Just wondering, do you still listen to Weezer? And if so, what did you think of their most recent albums: OK Human and Van Weezer? This may seem like a strange request but I’ve never come across a comment as old as yours.
Alex Moland "The Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World" , "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" and "Put Me Back Together" are pretty good songs...
I actually LIKE the way they DON'T move while they play in this video. The on-stage antics of "sub-culture bands" in the last three decades tend to want to portray ENERGY on stage through individual, out-of-control, jumping around and head-thrashing. And yet Weezer demonstrates in this video how to display energy NOT through wild, crazy on-stage gyrations, but through the execution of their powerfully written music. It's unique, and it's awesome!
From Malaysia. In 94..still into Metallica. Megadeth...and then came Nevermind album. Read about this band thru a review in a Malaysian Tabloid by writer Joe Kidd. Search this BLUE album in Terengganu. Found it. Listened to it. Blew my mind. IMO. This band is totally opposite of style compared to Cobain.Grohl.Novoselic .these band looks like Nerds n Geeks but their music...Perghhhh...excellent. On my top 3 list bands since then.
In this video Matt is playing a 1973 “Telecaster” bass, I read a quote from him about owning one on Equipboard but never found video of him with anything other than the black jazz bass so this is very cool to see
It isn't even close... This is my favorite song of all time. I could name 1000 songs that come in second, but none compete. I dunno why this song does it for me. I've listened to it since the Blue Album came out and it has just never changed.
Anytime I hear this, I'm brought with chills and sometimes a tear to the beauty and comlexity of this masterpiece. It really is an astonishing song that deserves to be more well known.
I love absolutely everything about this song- the intro, the chorus, and the outro."Only in Dreams" is by far my favorite weezer song. I still get shivers down my spine when I hear it today.
This is fucking great. I’m so glad that this exists. Their first two albums are amazing, and the debut is perfect. This might be the best song on either record, and this is a fun version of it.
Daniel Serrano You think thats unpleasant? I wrote the smoke on the water riff when I was 11, no wonder peopled rocked out to it so much when I played it
I love the rhythm guitar underneath Rivers during the verses... A nice clean electric just fits the vibe better for my listening, as opposed to an acoustic guitar.
I think it’s the odd key changes in the chorus of only in dreams is reminiscent of the weird key change of the “my father, dear father” part of say it ain’t so
This song sounds so amazing live. its like the vibration of the music goes through your body and touches your soul.....wow that sounds so corny. thank god no one knows who I am.
Mmmmm... I'd like to hear this at my funeral... It is an absolute love rock anthem. Only in dreams... In the air... Carbon dioxide... Only in dreams...
Totally agreed about weeping after listen to this masterpiece. In 1994, I was a university student. The first song of weezer that I heard is Jamie in Rarities Vol.1 I loved the distortion sound at the first heard. May be I think of Smashing Pumpkins which I knew before then I bought blue album and still love the sound of it until today.
The guit and drum drop and the comeback in the end is truly the best music peice i've heard in my life!! more than 15 yeras later I still can't get over it lolll
This was the final culmination of the layering musical motifs. There are so many lines that work alone but better in a group. They just played what they thought sounded good independently, then matched it up. It's like listening to a orchestra tune up from the year 10,000 A.D.
used to listen to this song every night on repeat for a spell as i fell asleep, that was maybe 16-17 years ago and today i still love this song just as much as i did back then, bliss.
