Just a quick word about my daughter’s personal journey with Ozempic, another semaglutide. She had been overweight since puberty, she lost some weight on Keto, then hit a plateau. She started taking Ozempic and gradually upped the dosage. She took it for approximately 2 years, got down to her ideal weight, stopped the Ozempic and has maintained her weight loss for the past ten months! She had no adverse reactions. Nobody should intend to take this medication forever, it’s a tool to assist your weight loss journey, not a magic wand!
I'm a retired Paramedic and until 1981 we rarely saw Type 2 diabetes. Then around 1979-80 when High fructose corn syrup was incorporated into food processing, we started to see a sharp increase in type 2 diabetes. Coincidence or....
It was inevitable. People used to it wholesome foods. Foods you could see by naked eye for what they are. Eggs, from your local farm market, meat from your local butcher, chicken, sausages, fresh vegetables and fruits. We used to know when they all come from. We used to buy cuts of meats from local butcher and mince it to make own mince meat for burgers or spagetti bolognese, etc. Now, we go to supermarket and we don't have idea where these products on the shelf come from. Looking at the labels , we see list of ingredients we have no idea what they are. We buy meat, but it's no longer just a meat. It says another dozen of ingredients on the label. We are all lab rats for all I care. No wonder we get sick, we get ill, we prematurely die of some strange and new diseases no-one heard before. This convenient food is killing us. We are like cows, being fed blindly by supermarkets selling us rubbish food for as much as they can get away with. They only care to produce food as cheap as they can get away with and with highest markup they can. This is our reality now...
I have never heard of that medication before. A gamer changer for the obesity epidemic is to stop pushing that stupid food pyramid down everyone's throat.
Same. On keto, I now take zero medications. Down from over 10. My chronic back pain from an old injury is gone. I was on a pain patch for that. No more high cholesterol, BP, diabetes, depression, insomnia. My back injury pain required gabapentin, baclofen, and a pain patch to deliver 24-hour relief. I was so depressed from chronic pain I was on 3 anti-depressants, zolpidem and Xanax, my high blood pressure required 2 pills twice a day, and a statin, plus metformin for diabetes. Shall I go on? There's no way I am taking another fking pill. Keto is amazing. I cannot stress how much healthier I am, no more chronic inflammation that was killing me!!
I think ONLY the educated patient wants to get off of drugs! I have had several very good doctors but never once have I thought they were trying to get me off of a drug. I can never remember it being mentioned. One doctor put me on a heart med, then doubled it, then raised the dose yet again. Years later I had one of these good docs tell me I should never have been put that drug and why. (He is retired and 93, and is still educating himself). I see todays docs trying to fix the symptoms, not the problem!
I lost 30% of my body weight, in half the time as this study, by switching to keto, IF, and drop the veg oils. And all of the side effects are good, especially triglycerides, HDL, etc. And it didn't cost anything.
This is exactly what I was thinking while watching. If you’re obese, just cut the carbs, quit eating processed non-foods and dial your meals back to once or twice a day. Not only will you lose at least 16% of your body weight over the course of a year, it won’t cost $15,000 and, oh yeah, it won’t do God only knows what to your brain stem. It’s madness. Congratulations on your results!
@@buckturgidson1448 But its not that easy mate. People have to deal with Hormonal imbalances and some have insuline resistance with hypothyroidism shit. So Semaglutide may help someone to move the scale little bit and obviously they this drug would work with exercise and diet control.
Keto can be expensive but not nearly as expensive as this. For $400, you could easily buy the highest quality meats and vegetables. Not only lose weight but completely improve your health.
For my entire life, even as a small child, I've been melancholic. I thought it was just part of who I was. Nothing major just a general sadness most of the time but there were a few weeks every year where I would fall into an actual depression. I remember 5-10 years old trying to go to sleep, staring into the darkness and my mind racing with thoughts about life and the universe. Why do we exist? What happens when we die? Is the universe an infinity of nothingness? Would it be worse to live forever or die? I'm sure most people can relate, and it did calm down as I moved into my 20's but only since going carnivore did I notice happiness and a general sense of being at ease sweep over me. Cure for depression? Ribeye steak!
I'd been on Ozempic for 5months and in that time I lost 56 lbs but did suffer quite badly with nausea, for this reason I wasn't able to increase my dose above 0.50 at any time. The effect it had on me was that I felt full MUCH quicker and I stayed full for a lot longer. Also a very interesting difference I found was that all my life I had a very sweet tooth, after first 2 months on Ozempic no longer craved or wanted or enjoyed sweet things, if I ate them I felt like "hmm yea that chocolate was ok but nothing special" which meant I no longer wanted it. I haven't been paid to take Ozempic, in fact as I'm in the U.K I had to pay for a private prescription (£130 for a 3 month prescription ) and then at the pharmacy I paid £86 for each pen (a pen lasts 4 weeks). Ozempic has changed my life, it's stopped my cravings for sweets & candy cakes etc and it has given me my life back
Thanks. The starting point is to use Ozempic which can go the max of 1.0mg per dosing. Based on your comments 1.0mg or below will help a lot of people. Only when one has to go up to 2.4mg then there is no choice but to switch to Wegovy.
Amazing that the guys who sells books and supplements and videos is talking about conflict of interest. That dumb southern accent seems ironic when he quotes upton Sinclair.
Three months in I have lost weight that formerly wouldn't budge despite intermittent fasting, keto, etc. Please note- I was only about 30 lbs. overweight-- but I am much closer to my goal weight now. Also blood glucose numbers are vastly improved- A1C down 1.2 points.. Minimal gastric distress, and the added benefit of reduced hunger plus heart benefits make this a very positive addition so far. My doctor is happy and so am I.
Please don’t 💩 on this medication. It provides hope for MANY that are already adjusting their lifestyle and still require help to regain and maintain their health.
Same here… calorie restricted, low carbed, IM fasted, worked out for nearly a year and lost 20 pounds and couldn’t get any lower. Since starting Semaglutide 10 days ago I’ve dropped 6 pounds and finally seeing progress with the scale!
Thanks! Hey Dr. Ken, HUMBLY, I am a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and I earned my doctorate after raising six wonderful children. I learn something from you every video and happily share your wisdom with my students. Thank you for your contributions to life-long learning.
Fought my insurance company for 2 months and finally got it approved! On my 6 injection, down 10 pounds, drinking lots of water, and forgetting to eat during the day, forcing myself to eat. Some constipation first 2 weeks, but they went away. Feeling great, moving move, everyone is different. So far so good 👍
I'm fighting with my Dr. she don't want to approved me Wegovy. I'm 47 yrs old woman,182 lbs,5'5'',with prediabetes (I take Metformin 1 per day, I have high blood presure and I take 50 mg Hydrochlorothiazide 1 per day , high cholesterol, diagnose with fatty liver disease. I try to keep diet, try to cut sugar, pasta, bread and cookies and subscribed to a fitness club but the visceral fat on my belly is still on me. I hate myself looking in the mirror and I can't wear the clothes in my closet size Medium, now I'm 1XL.. I used to be skinnier when I come from Europe to the USA, but I become addicted to fast-food and sodas and become obese .Any advice will be greatly appreciated .Thank you.
I’m on a GLP-1 agonist as well. I’m also nearly carnivore working my way to weaning off carbs 100%. It’s helped curb my night time and sugar cravings. It’s not costing me $1200 a month, more like $100. I’m also on a lower dose and don’t take it everyday-I’m on a daily micro injector so I can pick which days I want it and better modulate my dose so I don’t get nausea. I fast in the morning, take my injection at noon. Mostly meat dinner and then no snacks. I’m also morbidly obese and scared to die, I’m desperate and scared. I do not plan on taking it forever I really just want a head start so I can get my mobility back.
@@AprilJoi5 I stopped for a bit I was getting a lot of swelling in my limbs and face. I was losing weight though yes. Just odd since what was happening with me isnt really a side effect ppl have gotten.
I really appreciate the breakdown of the study. I'm so thankful for the information you provide on carnivore, and even though I'm still in the obese category, I have released 62 lbs over the last 6 months. This diet has been perfectly sustainable with no negative side effects!
@@kenwgold Yep, Keep it up Judy, I am right in there with you. 30 pounds down and 30 to go! I too can see no ill effects and have more energy than I ever had.
@judy, you're losing it faster than I am, but happy for you. 😇 I love the idea of "releasing" the excess - - out into the wild? I can think of some excellent uses for killer fat cells on the loose.
I'm on a similar study trial for another company for a dual GLP-1 & GIP agonist and have lost 76 lbs (27% of my starting weight) so far in 9 months. Many people on here advocating for keto, and I applaud you, its great if you can keep to it. I have tried keto diets as well and lost weight for a while, but it takes too much preparation and time to stick with long term. At least for me. This type of drug has completely knocked down my appetite. I don't fixate on food, snack, or even crave food the way I used to. Stop drinking sodas. Easy. I don't even crave them the way I used to. Stop eating junk food. No prob. Even when I do have take out, it doesn't trigger my pleasure sensations the way it used to, and I am full after eating less than half of what I would used to eat in one sitting. This helps take your brain out of the equation and lets you focus on a better, more complete diet. One of the best decisions I've ever made was to get on this study. Hopefully over time the cost will come down and more insurances will cover the program.
Are you using Mounjaro (tirzepatide)? I seem to read everywhere that this is even more successful than the semaglutide. Are you having any of the similar side effects: nausea, constipation, etc? I see your comment was 1 year ago, could you also give an update on your success? Thanks!
@@1hope4beauty Im pretty sure that the enrollments are closed now even though the extended study is still ongoing. Yes, Tirzepatide has been approved for diabetes under the name Mounjaro and will most likely be approved for weight loss in about another 6 months or so.
I would never, ever under any circumstances trust a study on a drug or treatment done under these circumstances. I have been around too long and seen it happen too many times I am sure that even if it is unconscious there is bias.
I wasn't part of a trial and I've paid for every apt and prescription and thanks to Ozempic I'm down 56lbs. I'm 5ft 1inch and used to weigh 15st and I'm now down to 11st. Ozempic has given me my life back on many many levels including being able to drastically reduce my pain medication ( had to have 3 level lumbar spinal fusion so any extra weight I was carrying was putting a MASSIVE additional loading on the healthy disk above my fusion) when I had my surgery I weighed 9 st after surgery my weight crept up to 15st leaving me in near constant back pain to the point I rarely left the house. My pain mess have now been halved and I'm actually able to go for regular short walks to keep myself mobile. Ozempic has truly brought me from the brink of suicide (due to constant pain) to actually being able to live MY OWN life as I choose!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Penicillin amd insulin was adopted exactly the same way. Anyone who invents something always has the job of advancing it and today there is actually a governing body that oversees these things
Well, I am diabetic type two, and since three month I am getting treated with a semaglutide at a dosage of 0,5mg once a week. Not only did it cut my insuline intake in half, and brought my HBA1C down, it also completely changed, or better calmed my hunger. I already lost 9kg (about 20 pounds) and I have no problem to keep on doing intermittent fasting for 7 days a week. The first time in decades I actually can say "no" to food and have no problem around snacks and sweets, that other people carelessly put into my way. So, I think it may be lifechanging for a lot of people.
If you use the drug to change how you eat and how often, the weight will stay off. If you begin flirting with the foods high carb, sugar, salt and fat aka processed foods, the weight will eventually pile back on.
I think that it is wonderful that you brought your A1C down with this drugs. But if you don't change what you are eating and how often you are eating then if you go off the drug, you will regain the bad A1C. Low carb works without drugs.
Appreciate the call for changing our lifestyle as opposed to trying to outmedicate bad food habits. I’m totally with you on noticing that the trial stopped as soon as weight gain re-occured. Keep asking people to eat real food as the first step toward good health. Strong work doc, I’m already dreading the expense and paperwork involved in this one
Dr Berry, Love, love, love this video. It goes along with what I learned in dental hygiene school. Figure out who’s getting payed. I would like if you would make a video about keto/carnivore and oral health. The most common diseases are gingivitis, periodontist and tooth decay. Thanks again for all you do.
Does keto/carnivore improve oral health? Or is someone who’s doing those lifestyles naturally care about their overall health so they take better care of their teeth, too?
There just needs to be an enormous campaign in this nation about the proper human diet and education about the utilization of food for energy relating to the body‘s ability to break it down and utilize it versus just storing it.
I take semaglutide (in Canada it's called Ozempic). I've been on it for over a year and have dropped 25 pounds. I only take 1mg per week, though. It also has heart benefits as well and as a stroke survivor, I am not complaining. It also helps to control blood sugars and my A1C is down to 6.5. I am very happy with this drug. Please don't misunderstand my enthusiasm. I also have made an effort to eat a healthy diet. After my stroke I developed an aneurysm at the top of my right leg due to the stent procedure I had. I had a partial blockage in my carotid artery. The surgery to repair my femoral artery and remove the aneurysm left me with permanent nerve damage in my leg. I don't move so well anymore as a result. I use a cane to get around. So in light of not being able to exercise properly this drug has had a great benefit to me. But I am only one individual, so take that for what it is.
For those who have no other options, you do what you have to do to live your life. But those who could change their diets but instead want to eat the SAD till the cows come home will abuse it and their bodies. But, it's their choice. I'm too busy trying to heal myself.
*We have Ozempic here in the U.S. as well, dunno why he's acting like this is anything new. It's even advertised on tv for Years now. With a jingle that goes "Oh oh oh oh ozempic, you knowwwww" (in reference to the oh oh oh oh it's magic, you knowww song).* *Notice he won't list the drugs ACTUAL name...He just doesn't wanna lose his own money by having his viewers aka his $ turn into to people realizing that there is an fda approved pill out there for people who struggle. Notice he asks for money at the end 🙄😒...a doctor none-the-less not some 19 year old youtuber trying to make it so they link their patreon*
I also take ozempic and have lost 37lbs and in the time I was taking this I was able to develop a healthier relationship with food so when I come off with it, I won't fall into old habits. I did lose 50lbs on keto and felt great too so they both work... but no matter way you choose to lose weight you need to develop a positive relationship with food and in my case be able have other ways of coping with tough emotions
For me there are no negatives. I feel normal and am not obsessive about food. No matter what I did before I was always obsessive even doing keto, carnivore and fasting. This is a wonderful tool and I am extremely happy with Wegovy! It works miracles for me!
I’ve been taking Ozempic for almost two months now (WeGovy under a different name according to my doctor). I’ve been struggling with disordered eating my entire life, which lead to me weighing in at my heaviest this year. The side effects are awful for some, while others experience none at all. I think it’s just a matter of weighing the pros and cons. For me, the pros have outweighed the cons (so far). I’ve been experiencing awful side effects since day one. Mostly nausea, vomiting, dizziness. But it’s also taken away my hunger, and not just because I’m nauseous! I never realized that it wasn’t normal to feel hungry literally all the time and to be constantly thinking about food. I thought everybody could eat until they were so full they could burst and then five minutes later be so hungry they could chew their own arm off. I figured I just had less self control or whatever. But I know that’s not normal now and holy shit, what a difference it makes! Do you know what I can do now? I can eat a cookie if I want to. ONE cookie. I’ve never been able to eat just one cookie. It’s always been, “Okay, I’ll just have one cookie” and next thing you know I’ve eaten a box of cookies and I’m crying in the pantry. But I don’t even crave cookies anymore. I’ve gone from looking at food as a hobby and comfort and look at it more as a fuel I guess now that I’m not constantly thinking about it. So for that reason alone the risks were worth it for me. I can’t say whether that’ll be the case in the long run, But for now I’m happy with it and down 37.6lbs! I do know that it’s not a magic cure though. So I think that’s something people really need to know going into it. I feel like it’s essentially set me back to default settings so I can eat proper portions and just not always be hungry with the added not so great bonus of barfing lol
Love an update 😊 I have lost 20 pounds since my 6th injection and I'm over the moon! When I weighed at the doctor's office and saw a weight loss if if 17 pounds after one month, I became so emotional and literally cried tears of joy and now two weeks later at a 20 lb weight loss for the first time in 30 years! So, this is a game changer, a life changer 😊
YES.... I hear you I had 1 cookie and it was even meh...I got nothing euphoric from it. it was fabulous. It's like food now has no power over me. It gives me control back. so I'm going to get completely off sugar and learn portion control. I will purge all the sugar and carbs from my body and eat keto and learn while I have this tool. I thought long and hard and was like nope...but so many are having success. so I figured I'd try. it's crazy. my brain is like rewired. 👍
I take Rybelsus (active ingredient semaglutide) and I take it as a Type 2 diabetic to help control my blood sugar. It helps immensely and I have also lost 60 lbs. My A1C was 4.2 last check. I’ll keep it. I’m happy with what it does and the only side effect I had was nausea for the first few weeks. Doing great now.
I actually just started Wegovy today, I have PCOS & insulin resistance & it’s extremely hard for me to lose weight. I’ve been doing keto & exercising 5x a week for an hour with a trainer for 3 months and have only lost 8 pounds, my doctor has determined it’s because of my PCOS and insulin resistance and recommended I try wegovy. Aside from being overweight, I’m pretty healthy. I’m hoping it will help with my insulin resistance which will in turn help the keto and exercise do what it’s supposed to do! Trust me, I don’t want to be dependent on a drug that probably won’t do much in the long run but line big pharma’s pockets, but if it will help me stop feeling like everything I do to lose weight is pointless & help me get a head start to keep on going on this journey, I’m willing to try it!
@@LuvHonesti It was amazing. It reversed my insulin resistance, I lost 50 pounds, and got pregnant and now have a 1.5 month old. I'm currently 6 weeks post partum and not even on wegovy anymore, and I've lost 30 pounds already of my baby weight just from working out. I was always told I would not have kids of my own due to PCOS, and I had tried for a while before Wegovy & never could get pregnant. A few months on it, and I lost weight & ended up pregnant. Wegovy was the best decision I ever made for myself & my health.
@@devinashley5605 I am so happy to hear that! Wow! Congratulations and thank you sooo much for your response. You give me hope and I appreciate you for sharing your experience. Wow 50lbs that's dream weight loss for me! That's just amazing!!!
My coworker looks amazing. She’s been on wegovy for year. She’s lost 89 lbs. her skin is beautiful too. She looks fresh and no dark circles under her eyes. Said she was nauseous for first 4 months. But she found it was triggered by certain foods like McDonald’s.
The side effects would need even more drugs to deal with so you can spend even more money on drugs...It's a win win...Personally I would rather spend all that money on Steak

Hi doc, I've been on Wegovy for a half year now and have taken off over 20% or so of my body weight. It truly is a game changer. During this time, I starting changing a lot of my eating habits and have started an exercise regimen, both as a natural result of how much better I've been feeling physically. . If you'd like to discuss my experience, is be happy to share with you.
Congratulations! I’m 5 weeks into taking Wegovy, just increased to .5 and I’d love to know what you ate. I had been eating carnivore prior to starting the Wegovy and curious if others have done both and how they’re doing. I did venture to try more Keto than carnivore but my body did not do well with the veggies.
@@katclark08 I didn't do any structured diet plan. My biggest focus has been on protein though. Although it took me a while to get to that point. I was constantly nauseous for the first few weeks. I don't always eat the right food, but eat small amounts.

Did you have to pay out of pocket or did you're insurance pay for most of it ? Also did you have to go to a weight loss clinic doctor or your prime doctor ?
As a pre-diabetic, I have used Byetta and Victoza. They seemed to lower my appetite, but I thought that was due to the mild but constant nausea that I had while taking them. Fatty carnivore with some occasional low carb veg has done more for me than anything. I had PCOS, was perimenopausal, and had Hashimotos, but I have been able to loose 75 lbs. in the last 6 mo. It works because I’m not walking around hungry all the time.
I can't do the strict diet that keto requires. However I do intermittent fasting and pair it with the ideals of Keto. I cut down the refined sugar, carbs, and fat, and increased my protein intake. I'm finding however that certain meat makes me sick. Cut out the fake crap and your body will adjust very quickly to show you what your body does and does not process.
I’m starting ozempic this week. I was newly and suddenly diagnosed with diabetes after 4 days in ICU from DKA. I’m not super overweight. I work out 5 days a week and watch what I eat very carefully. The unfortunate side effect of insulin is that it make some hungry and crave sugar and carbs…the very foods I work very hard to avoid. I finally. Rome down crying in my doctors appnt sharing that I’m tired of constantly feeling hungry and the exhausting will power I have to use just to keep from gaining weight…and it’s getting to the point of disordered eating….to eat but be afraid to eat and avoiding insulin so I don’t gain weight. Enter ozempic. Hopefully if helps give me a sense of relief of incessant hunger and exhaustion from having to use so much will power to. It constantly eat and exercise.
I am on it now for 6 months. I was 108 KG, in nov 2020. Now at 89 kg. No exercise. Started with .25 ml per week, then .5ml... now at 1 ml. Average I lose 3kg per month. I expect to be off my diabetes meds altogether in 6 months. I had very high lantus, humalog dosage, plus metformin, 8 months ago.
I’ve taken Ozempic for 2 1/2 years. I had terrible gastroparesis, but it worked for controlling my diabetes so I stuck with it. I lost 50 pounds. At the 2 year mark I suddenly started getting my ability to taste back, my stomach stopped hurting if I ate too much food (which wasn’t very much) and spicy foods stopped causing me agony. I gained back 30 pounds. It’s great as a diabetes treatment, but I wouldn’t rely on it to lose weight long term.
My cousin had T1D and had horrific gastroparesis that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Any small interest I had in semaglutide is now gone so thank you for mentioning that!

I've been on Ozempic for 3 months now and I've gone from 228 pounds to now 190. The best part about it is it reduces cravings. After I got up to 1mg a week I could eat around 1000 calories a day, stop eating around 1am and then stop until the next day where I'd eat again around 8am.
I started taking Semaglutide 1 week ago & today was my second dose. I have suffered from a few of the side effects - mainly nausea. Overall I am pleased with this drug. I do feel that there is a strong chance that the effects will wear off. So I am using this as a strong spring board to get me back on track. I have begun a proper diet when I started taking the medication. I feel in the next few days I will be ready & plan on incorporating exercise. My observation on Semaglutide is that there is a bigger correlation with blood sugar levels in my system and how I eat than I thought. Seems like blood sugar levels effect my thoughts more than I thought.
I use it at 1 mg for diabetes. It doesn't help to loose weight, I lost weight with Keto!😁 Since someone is here to check spelling mistakes, yes.. I wrote loose instead of lose. I beg your pardon, I'm a humble Italian writing in a foreign language. Spreading Dr Berry's word in my country. ❣️

I've been on it for a year and just recently stopped. I didn't lose very much weight. It did help.with cravings but it really hasn't helped me much. I did have lots of side effects like headaches, indigestion, made my acid reflux even worse...and the worst of it all is I experienced major hair loss/shedding. I found out that 3% of users experienced this. I stopped the meds to to see if that is what caused it. In the meantime, I hope my hair grows back to its fullness. Has anyone else experienced hairloss/ thinning/shedding???
When you picked up your prescription at the pharmacy you would have been given a sheet detailing side effects of the medicine etc . In fact before I receive my Rx I can ask or decline further information from the staff before signing on the dotted line. Don’t blame the Dr . Patients have a responsibility to ask questions .
My doctor provided the shots in office & failed to provide side affect information. When I stopped taking due to side affects he talked me into trying again which led to 2 emergency surgeries. The drug isn't for everyone & people need to be informed of this.

@@Fallout3ProHunter I can't speak for Mama Poppins, but the most common reason for Selenium poisoning is diatery supplementation. second most common reason is high intake of vegetables grown in selenium rich soils. certain geografic regions have higher concentrations of selenium.
@@Fallout3ProHunter 🙋Hello, It was a liquid multi vitamin supplement that I took for years back in the early 2000's. (The company is no longer in business). That company knowingly mixed WAY too much Selenium in this product. I went to the store and purchased another bottle as I always did. I had really enjoyed the product. HOWEVER "this" bottle was toxic. I was very sick within a few weeks. Massive problems from the amount of selenium contained in the bottle. (it also had toxic amounts of chromium in it as well). So here I am pushing 2 decades later and I still have side effects and problems. I am so thankful to God that as time goes on I am still here and I am finally getting better. Thanks for asking. 👍☺
@@mamapoppins7422 And to think selenium was recommended to me for Hashimoto’s, and I took it for awhile but then stopped when I wasn’t seeing any difference. Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad you are getting better!
@@alp6244 🙋Thank you for the encouragement!! I think in the correct amounts it's beneficial.... just not in the amounts in "that" bottle. God Bless you☺👍
In all fairness, imagine this scenario… You take the drug, and start seeing results. You go a little longer, and see more results. You decide… Hey, let’s speed this up with healthy keto and moderate exercise.
I do medication reconciliation for a living and it warms my heart when I hear the exact scenario that you described above💜. I can see this being a good tool for some.
Thank you for this positive perspective. This was my thoughts originally most people just need the motivation to keep going 15% at four months hopefully will be enough. Life changes are hard, especially anything you've been doing since basically birth.
I actually just started Wegovy today for this exact reason, I also have PCOS & insulin resistance & it’s extremely hard got me to lose weight. I’ve been doing clean keto & exercising 5x a week with a trainer for 3 months and have only lost 8 pounds, my doctor has determined it’s because of my PCOS and insulin resistance and recommended I try wegovy, I’m hoping it will help with my insulin resistance which will help the keto and exercise do what it’s supposed to do!
I did the opposite of what you said. Lost 20kg in ~7 months with low carb and exercise, have been stalled for the past 2 months with same diet & increased exercise (mainly because I’ve been enjoying it a lot). Started semaglutide this week and I’ve already broken through that stall I’m optimistic that this can help a lot of people
IDK, Dr Berry. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Trials by companies with scientists who are financially connected, raises some red flags. I'll stick with the keto program.
Thanks for the update!! Your so informative and intelligent. I really admire you and your wife. No easy way to loose weight unfortunately, takes a long time to get on and a long time to get off. I’m sticking with the old fashioned, pain stacking way; as much as I would love to be lean!! God bless and be well🙏🏻❤️😘✌🏻
All you need is a fatty steak once or twice a day with a pinch of salt to lose weight, not some magic pill, In Australia obesity almost just as prevalent as Americs, so i wouldnt be surprised if the same drug comes here soon. I just wish the government wouldn't keep spreading false and damning info regarding to nutrition, lucky i managed to correct my eating early in life, instead of later in life, before i was diagnosed as prediabetic. Thanks doc!
If your government is anything like ours, their pay checks are from big pharma. So don't expect them to stop spreading false and damning info any time soon.
Unfortunately implementation of the changes you state above won't change being insulin resistant and having thyroid problems whereas Ozempic did for me. I can't talk for others but my experience, whilst not being plain sailing has transformed my life! And for that I'm SO thankful 👍🏻
@Redeemed Hi, that’s really interesting, I’ll take a look at her channel and see how she went about it. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply xx
It is here John , live in QLD and went on it in December, reached my goal weight so my doc took me off it. It stays in the system for another two to three weeks after stopping ,so you think great can do this. BUT THEN MY REAL APPITITE came back with a vengance, and I put on 4 kgs in about three weeks, mate I felt as though I was starving. Now I struggle to maintain the weight I am which is overall about a 7 1/ 2 kilo loss. I originally lost 12 kgs. Now I'm on a perminant diet to maintain where I am now. ITS BLOODY HARD.
But your doctor will not recommend eating good food and not eating fake food, rather you doctor will recommend the drug he/she has been told to recommend, drugs. As Deep Throat once said ... 'just follow the money trail'.
Severely obese people obviously are severe sugar/carb addicts, I would say it's almost impossible for them to change their diet by themselves. More resources are needed to help these people get off processed foods...
A pity that health insurance might potentially cover this drug, but it doesn't help people who might not be able to afford better diets. There are other situations as well, that can stop people from being able to afford healthier diets. You should see what some food banks offer people. There's so much stacked against the people in general by companies and our governments, that as a whole, we need to stand up and say enough.
Hi. Type 2 diabetic here. I was prescribed this injection and started it two weeks ago. I couldn't control my blood sugars at all no matter what I did. I have been on three different medications at once (metformin, januvia and forxiga) and then put on insulin. All of the above became necessary in order to live. The biggest issue was that it has made weight loss nearly impossible. The more weight I gain, the more medication I need then the medication packs on more weight. I have to admit, that this all felt very hopeless. I could eat next to nothing even with keto and I still gained weight. I still had nasty sugar spikes. At the rate I've been going it has not been looking good at all, and no, my diet is not poor or unmanaged. I eat according to the keto diet. I also practice intermittent fasting (18 hours minimum / day). My liver releases sugar into my blood stream and the cycle starts again. I've never been able to get to the state of ketosis. There is something called dawn phenomenon or DP. This is a release of hormones in preparation of waking up for the day and boosts your Bg level. In some people it is a lot more significant than in others. Usually it happens between about 5 and 6 am, but it can happen anytime. Some people also/or get something called feet on the floor FOTF, which causes your BG to rise right after you wake up and get out of bed. I was lucky enough to end up with this being one of my biggest issues. Both of these also cause insulin resistance for a few hours after you have woken up. BTW - Diabetic nutrition specialists here in Canada are old school and do NOT teach anyone what to do other than portion everything. The main thing I've ever come across is indulge if you feel the urge but remember moderation. This is really bad advice and they go by the old model for the food pyramid where they want you to eat up to 8 portions of grains a day and do NOT recommend Keto at all. The only reason I was approved by my doctor was because I had epilepsy and I guess Keto is recommended for that. My BMI is 36 and I've been this weight for the last 22 years. My metabolism was badly damaged and slowed down to a terrible crawl when I was 16 . I was given a shot for a 3 month long birth control and I never recovered from that. It was at the beginning of the trial and in those three months I gained 70lbs. I friend of mine was rendered infertile. Another was so sick that she had to be sent to the hospital. I went from 160lbs to 230lbs in three months. Just let that sit with you for a minute. I'm just lucky when I can keep that number stable. Nevermind loosing any of it. The goal according to my doctor though, is to increase the dose slowly and then ease off of the other medication. This should help with the weight loss, the neuropathy, the insomnia, the hair loss / thinning and many other problems I've got going on. I still have to keep up with continuing the healthy diet and exercise. I do have some bad side effects. I feel sick most of the time and my appetite is next to nothing. Even fasting hadn't gotten me anywhere. My blood sugars have been going down since I started taking the shot, thankfully, not fast but they look a lot better. I've went from an average of 16.6 mmol/l = 298.8 mg/dl (just after lunch reading) to 10.2 mmol/l = 183.6 mg/dl (just after lunch reading). That's huge for me! Don't get me wrong, this does scare me. I'm prone to side effects and have a weak immune system as it is, but desperation does turn to hope when it comes to things like this. Everything has to be kept charted. My blood sugars, side effects, blood pressure, how much I sleep, when I eat and what it is. Even how many fluids I have a day. I have to track my activity and take multivitamins. This injection can cause lean muscle loss so even there I have to stay mindful. Luckily my doctor is pretty amazing and will keep track with me. I see her every week. It was either take a chance on this, or face organ shut down eventually with the diabetes. Please don't judge someone for a struggle that you don't have to experience yourself. I've read a lot of the comments and they are heartbreaking. Circumstances are different for every person. Be kind please. :( Thank you Dr. Berry for posting this video. I appreciate a neutral look at medication. I would also welcome any advice.
@@tamarastone141 No it never did. It continued for years and honestly made it so that looking in the mirror is an instant source of depression. It started to fall when I started Metformin years ago.
@@SaraMaradona I'm happy to report that my fasting blood sugar averages around 4.6 mmol/l = 82.8 mg/dl. Mid day after I've eaten I've never gotten past a 7.0. It feels great! I've went down from my initial 235lbs (when I started taking Ozempic) down to 190lbs and holding fast to that so far. The side effects sucked for the first couple of months while I adjusted to it, but now I hardly notice much of anything.
@@realityunleashed108 wow! We're similar...I started at 220 went down to 190...I'm happy you finally found your way😊 I'm hoping I find mine as well...gosh it's like swimming uphill, trying so hard to reach your goal but the resistance is unreal!
Question is, since this is messing with neural pathways, what happens when the consumer decides it’s not working and just stops? Like a antidepressant? I’m curious to know if the new behavior (caused by blocking neural pathways) becomes behavioral under a long term use, and can be weened off and no longer used, therefore indirectly forging a new behavior by reducing the food intake/reward system/etc.
Most drugs that alter behaviour, unless reduced in a very controlled manner, can have a massive swing back in the opposite direction, leaving the persons behaviour far worse than before. Such as antidepressants, which can leave people suicidal if they come off them too quickly (although antidepressants should be illegal anyway. It's been long known in the medical profession, that if a person receives support and help such as occupational therapy to over come their depression, and not drugs, they have a much lower chance of it reoccurring. Whereas those treated with drugs have an increased, almost guaranteed chance of it returning).
@@policewitness5181 For sure. I’m just thinking about the physical repetitious behavior pattern of eating less, becoming a new learned behavior and possibly not needing the drugs for more than, say, 90days. However, when he mentioned the neural pathway changes and blockages, this was a HUGE red flag to me. This is NOT the wonder drug for weight loss/retention we are seeking.
No problem with stopping, in my experience. The effects stop, but otherwise all is normal. No rebound effect, no addiction. There does appear to be a tolerance issue as the doc suggested at 3:12.
My doctor suggested it. He made no comments when I told him I stopped eating white sugar, wheat, starch, fruit etc for year. The pharmacist called to get me approved , told me insulin was a protein not a hormone. Turns out my insurance won't pay a dime...God works in mysterious ways and I will be finding a new doctor..❤
I take Ozempic once a week and have PCOS, in 7 months I've lost 40lbs, and brought my A1C down under 7, to me it is a life saver, and maybe I'll find that different in the future. Sometimes I get a sour stomach, taking it at night helps. If insurance doesn't cover it, it is expensive. I'm taking a 0.5 dose and plan to ask my Dr to up that to 1.0. Not certain you need the 2.4mg to benefit from the drug. For those who don't know Ozempic is semaglutide.
Dr. Berry, I really enjoy your videos so much. I know that coming from a physician that the information is exact and well researched. I’m trying so hard, but not to too hard, because of my disability. See, I’ve had a brain aneurysm/stroke in 2010 so I have problems with balance so I walk with a cane. My memory is a little blurry at times especially to the things in the past. I’ve lost 6 pounds but been on this half way for about a month. I can handle the intermittent fasting but I’m not eating the meat 🥩 that I should on a carnivore diet. I had an EGD a couple weeks ago which showed terrible irritation in my esophagus and stomach- the dr put me on proton pump inhibitors thus took me off my Pepcid 40mg BID. It has been difficult to swallow steak and meats so I’ve been eating soups which hasn’t contributed to my weight loss. Do you have any suggestions for me on what to do? What to eat that would not be so irritating to my gut/esophagus? I would appreciate it so much 🌺🌺🌺 I appreciate all your hard work - I worked for 26 years as a ICU RN. I miss it.
Love that the doc posted this video. Back in the early 1990s my husband and I got Fen-Phen from our doctor, shortly after it was FDA approved. I couldn’t take it because I had all the side effects listed below, not to mention I didn’t lose one pound. FDA pulled Fen-Phen from shelves in 1997 due to concerns about damage the drug was doing to patients' heart valves. Some of the serious side effects of Fen-Phen include increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, restlessness, dizziness, tremor, insomnia, shortness of breath, chest pain, and swelling of the legs and ankles. I don’t believe taking a pill will solve the obesity problem because changing your life style forever is what I believe works to lose weight. However, some people are just frustrated and will use this drug to solve their obesity problems. Only time will tell how dangerous this drug will be just like all the others approved by the FDA so billions of dollars will be made by big pharma.
I thought of Fen-Phen and Redux when Ozempic started being talked about. I remember the ads for those drugs when I was a kid. The long-term stuff is what ppl need to consider. I read that Wegovy can cause thyroid cancer, pancreatitis and gallstones. 😵💫
Thanks for your in depth study of this new diet product. We are all looking for something like this so we can continue eating what we want. I have actually spent the past 2 weeks eating one meal a day, plus a snack of fresh veggies and a sour apple. I have dropped 4 lbs. and I am excited that this appears to be working for me. I am also trying to eat keto.
It has been a wee while since I have watched you on RU-vid, and I've got to say: "Your shrinking away Doc!" I feel like it has been around 6 months since I last saw you , but Wow!
Excellent advice! So, this drug shuts off your appetite (temporarily) then when you are off it…WHAM! Your appetite comes back and you once again, swell up like a tick. The only practical application would be to get through a week long fast and then plan on eating a low carb diet (50 grams of carbs per day or less) A person is still going to have to learn to be disciplined at the table.
3:12 Yes, that is exactly my experience with daily semaglutide (Victoza). Combined with gym and keto, I lost 40 lbs initially (2 years ago). It stopped working after about 12 weeks. I've tried it a couple of times since with initial benefit, but stops after about 8 weeks. Seems like keto and IF are better long term. 10:30 The key to eliminating side effects with semaglutide is to not overeat at any one meal. Semaglutide slows gastric emptying, and it raises hell if a meal is too large. It took one episode for me to learn that lesson; zero side effects after I slowed down a bit.
Victoza (Liraglutide= quite similar to semaglutide) is aimed at Type-2 diabetics to help them avoid being dependent on Insulin and does actually quite a good job. Weight loss is only a side effect. What they did here is that they upped the dosage so that the side effect becomes the main effect.
I've been on Ozempic for about 6 months and it definitely kills your appetite. At the 0.5 dose, getting ready to go to 1.0. Doing with keto/carnivore and seems to be helping.
Well, my doctor is super against ineffective treatments. She didn't have quite this much of a critical review of it. She said I would benefit. And I hope I will. I've lost 150 lbs in 1 year, two times in my life, through really unsafe dieting. I think this will be a slower but probably safer way to lose weight.
Got to my goal weight, lost 14 kgs and got beyond my target weight which was above what I really wanted . I'm happy so very happy. It made me feel dizzy and nauseated, but having a glass of orange juice would fix me up. Oh and it lasted about two and half weeks after using it.
Nah, I just listen to your advice (mostly carnivore and healthy keto) and OMAD. I have not only lost the 15kg from last year, but another 5kg just to feel better.
My doctor put me on Ozempic because of my insulin resistance. I have been strict Keto for months, with fasting and just could not loose any weight. With Ozempic, my A1C has improved, I’m no longer pre-diabetic, and I have lost 51lbs. That was all in the first 5 months. The last 3 months, again strict Keto, my weight has stayed the same, up & down the same 2lbs. But, I also have just been diagnosed with Hashimotos, so…I guess I’ll never lose weight.
I love listening to Dr Berry!! I have learned so much. I am eating carnivore with OMAD. I love the way I feel and being able to lose weight by eating what I love. Thank you Dr Berry for helping so many people. I have lost 18 pounds in 2 months!! Pretty awesome. Not eating small meals and no low calorie meals. Loving eating meat, eggs, cheese, bacon any day I want to!!
Thank you, Dr. Berry! We appreciate you researching for us. Personally, I wouldn't take this even as a temporary start. So much easier, healthier, and cheaper to just eat your meat! 🥰
I think they're on the right track, as far as altering appetite hormones. As far as people taking advantage and eating junk, etc., people who are non obese are doing that too. So there's this perception that only obese are eating bad food. It's a "hormonal" disease more and more. Non obese people aren't superior in their behaviors, in their nutritional behaviors, they just don't have the disease of messed up appetite hormones.
Glad someone finally say the truth. I'm on the waiting list with NHS in England for the Bariatric Surgery, I'm 49, perimenopausal, diagnosed with hyperinsulinemia when I was 19 (at that time keto and If weren't of this planet, even now most doctors/nutritionists are ignorant about it). So my bariatric Dietitian (she call herself dietitian/nutritionist) call me every 3 months during the stage of the process of waiting for the surgery. Last time, at the beginning of June, I've told 3 that I was finally keeping my weight under control and loosing even some kilos doing "low carbs" (didn't mention the word keto or high fat, they don't have any knowledge about it). So she was pleased with the results, 6kg less in 1 month and half, than she suggested me to get an appointment with this "famous" doc that is the "only one who can prescribe Saxenda". Didn't know anything about it so she said that has something to do with the hormones into the stomach that can stop cravings. I've accepted the appointment just to understand more. Than I've googled saxenda and turns out this: Saxenda main component is " Liraglutide, sold under the brand name Victoza among others, is an anti-diabetic medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, obesity, and chronic weight management. In diabetes it is a less preferred agent compared to metformin. Its effects on long-term health outcomes like heart disease and life expectancy are unclear And than this.... Consider liraglutide, an injectable drug that works in part by helping the pancreas produce more insulin. The drug also suppresses appetite by fooling the brain into thinking the stomach is full. Liraglutide is the generic name for Saxenda, which was approved for obesity in December. It is merely a higher dose of Victoza, a drug that has been marketed since 2010 for type 2 diabetes. As a diabetes drug, Victoza was the primary suspect in 348 deaths and more than 3,100 hospitalizations through June 2014, according to the most recently available FDA data. At least 100 of those reported deaths were linked to pancreatic cancer.... With the approval of higher-dose Saxenda, the FDA doubled down on its confidence in the drug's safety. It has a 3-mg daily dose, compared with 1.2 mg or 1.8 mg for Victoza. The labels for both drugs also warn patients to stop using the drugs promptly if pancreatitis is suspected. That's what Tom LaRosa did last August when a blood test showed possible inflammation of his pancreas, said his wife, Sandy. The test was done because he had been having stomach problems, which can be a warning sign of pancreatic cancer. So.... The ignorance of GPS and so called nutritionist is scaring, they can life.
It might help you lose weight, but that doesn't mean you're going to be healthier. You're still going to have the inflammation, digestive issues, etc. if you keep eating the same junk. Also, early reports say that patients gain the weight back rather quickly once they stop taking the drug.
In all weight loss diets and even surgery results in gaining weight back plus a little more. Maintaining weight loss is almost impossible with only 1% success rate.
They're not going to be eating the same junk. the drug makes it so you're not hungry. Citation needed on that first paragraph, rose. Weight loss in obese populations always leads to improvements in blood markers. Who expects continued results after cessation of medication? Does blood pressure stay low after stopping meds? Does depression vanish after stopping meds? Why would this be any different?
Thanks for the information. The honest straight forward info. Good to know that even though I fall in the area of people that this would be beneficial, I don't think I will go there. I will continue to struggle to be consistent with IF and low card. Thank you
No, no! They spend millions on making combinations of grains, seed oils and corn fructose even more hyperpalatable and giving those combos even longer shelf lives.
One of my high school friends is apparently in some sort of multi-level marketing organization that sells a product that somehow effects how the body metabolizes carbs. She claims she can eat what she wants and that product will erase the effects. That’s weight loss. It doesn’t tell us what’s happening to her liver
the problem with these quick fixes is that it doesn't teach people about their relationship with food. If you can still keep eating garbage and still lose weight, you will NEVER keep it off. You can't change the outcome over the long term until you change the problem that created the situation in the first place. This is why certain entities get away with telling the general public that type 2 diabetes is a LIFE LONG affliction that needs to be "managed" instead of telling them that they CAN CURE it if they really want to, but it takes WORK and WANT.
Men are the worst when it comes to taking a 'short cut'. Most men are looking for that magic pill, instant gratification, and jeopardize their health for it, because they all know they are invincible and will live forever! 😵💫🥴🥺 The only 'short cut' is shortening our lives! Let get some self control, self-discipline, it really is empowering to do so. I'm not talking about anorexic self control because that is purely Out of control! But fast (this includes sleep time),and eating orgainic, grass fed, etc. in an 8 hours window only, removing sugars, that includes carbs that turn to sugar. Organic fruit will become your best friend but you can't taste fruit if you have eaten sugar, and my own fail is to not eat 3 hours before bed, and getting to sleep at a reasonable time! All of this including healthy fats in your diet, and exercise will help you avoid Alzheimers, and lose weight. Eating at restaurant, even only a salad, has caused inflammation in my body, and weight. Going back to my own organic kitchen! Be healthy, all!☺️
I cannot believe I never heard that Sinclair quote before, that is spot on. I call it "the professional blind spot" and have tried to explain it to others for years with limited success. I will be getting a LOT of mileage out of that one.
Good review 💕 It’s clear there is no weightloss procedure that is permanent, not even the surgeries. Agreed we will have two categories of people and I think to combat that will be requirements in place for dietitians and therapy. One significant takeaway for obese PEOPLE (one side of the coin) is they need help kickstarting weightloss and a new way of life to make better decisions! This drug appears to help with that jumpstart. Additionally the cost of the drug is not a downside of the drug but a downside of health insurance in the US. The fda approves all this crap food then make insurance for us to prevent the dangers of eating it
