"It's been about 6 weeks and I'm down 37 pounds", Tara Gustin said from her home as she fixed dinner for her family.
Tara's weight loss journey started at the Weight Management Center at CHI Health Immanuel (formerly Alegent Creighton Health). Before undergoing laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery, she spent some time learning about herself. She knows weight loss isn't just about the food you put in your mouth it's also about the control you have over your life. It's about making good choices.
"My husband Nathan and I get out; we walk now. It's been such a huge change from before because I couldn't walk; I was so heavy and so tired. Now it's exhilarating we get to do that together", Tara said.
There's a learning curve when it comes to eating after laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. Tara ate beef too early and it came back to haunt her. She's also learning food is not a race.
"I have learned to really slow down eating. One of the hardest things is to eat slowly but there's negative reinforcement. If you don't slow down you pay the price for it. You get used to it", Tara said.
Tara is getting used to having a lot more energy but she admits to tiring easily. She's learned that's because she is not taking in the calories she did before but that will only last about 6 months. Tara is still getting used to the fact that food has now taken a back seat to living.
"Food before was something I got excited about. I'm not hungry now. I eat because I have to eat. It's just not as exciting before - which is fine. It's good because I had a love affair with food", Tara said.

You look amazing and congrats!! I'm on day 3 post op (sleeve). And I'm desperate to get to more real food. Everything got really sweet after surgery so I'm really struggling with protein shakes and yogurt. They make me gag.

May i just say that you look amazing and thank you for saying truthfully what to expect, I literally thought that post op I’d be up and about (i watch my grandbaby during the day while my daughter has to work) so atleast now I’m better prepared knowing what’s to come and will think of ways to address tiredness through the first stages..Much blessings to you!!

You know how you say food isnt as exciting anymore, how do you go with that? I love cooking and feeding people. This is what I'm most worried about.

I think longer out you get to enjoy things again just in way smaller portions. I've seen videos of people 5+ years out who can pretty much eat anything , they just keep portions very small

@@lolahernandez6871 it won't be a factor at all. You'll still enjoy feeding your family but it's not an exciting event for you. Don't get me wrong, you'll be excited to feed your family but the eating part for you is like ehhh

@@lolahernandez6871 a person has to work first the mind before this surgery, my daughter is 38 and after her 10 years in the army, she had and has to take differents meds, she had gain a lot of weight and she is like 5 foot tall, so she just told she is getting this surgery and i said not do not do it, i said change your diet and walk but she said not am going to get it. i was 210 pounds, my belly was big, my butt was ugly big, my face looks like a big round tomato and i made a decision, was not easy, was hard, but i made it, i stopped eating rice,potatoes, pasta, big bars chocolate, 2 bowls of ice cream, a lot of cake, and i started eating salads, vegetables, chicken, salmon, i donot drink juice, instead i drink water, from 210 i went to 143, my blood pressure got in control.,my sugar got control, i do not have reflux anymore after loosing that weight so i stiopped the reflux pill, this is what i advise my daughter all the time but she does not want to listen.

I feel the same way I have only lost forty lbs in 7 weeks seems like a small amount
@Meela234
@Meela234 5 лет назад
457 to 396 is definitely not a small amount. Just think, would you have been able to lose that amount on your own without the surgery? I'm two weeks post op and I've lost 19lbs. I know I'm not getting 64oz a day because I get full very quickly. It's a goal, but I know I have to work my way up to it. Try to get at least 48 oz if you can't do 64. You're doing great with your weight loss. You don't want to lose too fast.

Basically to lose weight u have to eat barely anything?
@deadspacegrave2219
@deadspacegrave2219 4 года назад
No , I wouldnt have progressed so well after my gastric bypass if I didnt exercise or ate the wrong things.

Noooo... This is only 5 weeks post op. Once your body adjust you have to keep on eating well and exercising. The surgery gives the body a huge boost and tool but you still have to do the work

Does Okibetonic Secrets really work? I notice a lot of people keep on talking about Okibetonic Secrets. But I'm uncertain if it's good enough to lost lots of fat.
