When I was in the miltary I was deployed and almost everyone on board my ship had a copy of heart Gold or Soulsilver. I was gather different pokemon including all of the Kanto starters. My favorite thing to do would be to trade a Pokemon temporarily breed it with my diddo real quick and then add to my network. We also traded real life items while we were out to sea as well including energy drinks and cigarettes for pokemon . If we got back from our deployment the online service was a great benefit for the most part, I could trade a Kanto starter or a version exclusive for any other pokemon thanks to the internet

One weird thing or rather issue I have with the remakes is that Houndour and Murkrow STILL aren't found in Johto!

If they put these on the switch with all the events attached, I will gladly pay $25

Another fun fact about hgss is how the team rocket admin Proton's japanese name translates to English as Lance, so it was changed in the English releases for obvious reasons.

in gold silver, there is actually 4 male executives. in HGSS, there are only 3 male executives. the radio tower fake director and one of the hq executive are merged into petrel, which present a minor plot hole. when first visiting goldenrod, npcs mention that there is something wrong with the director, which means the executive is already impersonating the director by then so he cannot be present in the rocket hq at the same time you storm the hq since the fake radio director never left the radio tower. this is also noted on bulbapedia

My favorite games of the series. HG & SS and the original Gold and Silver, from the layout of the region to the starters being my favorites, the gym battles and in my opinion the best rival in the series. I've replayed it so many times with different teams.

I always found it odd that they replaced Kris instead of redesigning her like Ethan. Especially since Kris is the first female protagonist you’d think they’d give her some special recognition. Also what I found kinda funny was the Adventures manga doesn’t use the “Team Rocket trying bring back Giovanni” plot in the GSC arc so they were able to do so for HGSS. Which worked out to their benefit because they had actual characters to work with.

Fun Fact: There is no way to get a Glaceon in HG SS because there is no Ice rock in Any area in the game. You have to trade from other gen 4 games to get glaceon in game on HG SS.

Primo( Pokedude) was able to give you Mareep, Wooper and Slugma as eggs. you had to enter your trainer id at a certain website and the website gave you a password to primo he gives you one of the three eggs aand he can also give you one of 8 Wallpapers.

OBJECTION! The Heartgold and Soulsilver games ARE indeed compatible. I actually did that myself for Battle Revolution.

I really like the fact that Gym leaders in this game really will move to other locations instead of just appearing in two places at the same time just like other games. When you see Lt. Surge in the station, you can't find him in his gym.

Soul Silver is my favorite game in the franchise! The gym leader phone numbers for re-battle as well as the addition of the battle frontier are just amazing! Plus the soundtrack!

If I recall correctly, battle revolution can connect with platinum and HGSS, but alternate forms and items introduced after DP won't show and aren't useable. So no new room, Giratina, and Shaymin forms, but every other pokemon is fine. I remember using a HG/SS save to do some battle revolution stuff in the past, so I think it can work. I also remember reading on bulbipedia that the rematch with the final boss in the game changes his team depending on the version of the game you are playing. There is data for a diamond and pearl rematch, and also one for just rental teams. It says HG and Pearl use the same team, and Diamond/PT/SS use the other one. so It seems that the way they got around the issues is to have the battle revolution read the future games as being either diamond and pearl. As for pokemon ranch, you are right as I recently tried using a platinum/HG/SS game on my old wii, and it wouldn't let me store the pokemon. However, I remember reading back in the day that japan got a platinum update to the game that added more connectivity, but due to the game not doing very well, it was never brought over to the US. The way the gen 4 games handled this stuff was really weird, as It seems they only thought as far as DP and then realized they had to figure out how to make future games work. But I will give it to them that they gave gen 4 a ton of support right off the bat, with so many games being able to connect with them. It really shows why so many people look at gen 4 so fondly!

Ah Hitmonchan became so good in Gen 4 due to his elemental punches becoming physical moves instead of special like in Gen 3 so it compliments his attack stat

As someone who really loves Gen 2, HGSS is actually my least favorite remake in the series. It doesn't do nearly enough to improve upon the weak parts of the original GS. Problems like awful level progression and poor item distribution still plague the experience, and most of the improvements are aesthetic bells and whistles (like following Pokémon) that I don't find to be as valuable to the experience. FRLG and ORAS both improve on their original installments much better in my opinion.

The typo in the Heartgold guide is good for my ego because I got Pokémon Silver for my birthday when I was 8. So I didn’t know there was a Gold version for a while and always argued to my friends that Silver was the definitive until Crystal came out. Over 20 year old argument resolved. A lot of people I grew up with have either passed away or are in jail but I gotta look up the rest to rub this in their face.

I recently bought Pokemon SoulSilver again (I got a copy back in 2010, but due to moving a lot soon after that time, i lost it, so i bought another one recently), and this video taught me a lot about a game that I thought i knew everything about. Lol. Still, in 2022, HG and SS are still the best ways to experience the Johto region.

It's compatible with Battle Revolution however certain move sets are considered hacked and therefore that Pokémon will be considered hacked if it has a move that it could only learn in Platinum, HeartGold or SoulSilver and not the original Diamond and Pearl such as Weedle with Bug Bite.

Oh god I spent so many hours on Soul Silver, definitely my favorite pokemon game

I thought the male protag in gen 2 was called Gold, but it's actually Chris, similar to the female Kris - they both are a nod to the word crystal

I'm not sure if it was fixed in later revisions, or because my copy is from Canada, but my instruction book for HeartGold doesn't have that error, listing SoulSilver like it should.

If you come out every npc turns into ghost your pokemon turn into bloody legs

They still didn't fix Misdreavus being the only Ghost type introduced in Johto not being in the Johto Ghost Gym and only found in Kanto 😢

They're not incompatible with Battle Revolution. I used HeartGold with it back in the day. As for My Pokémon Ranch, if memory serves, Japan got updates for Platinum and HGSS.

I have no additional facts to add to this, so instead I'll recount a small "business" I had in HeartGold. A few friends, including my then college roommate, would ask me to either store or breed Pokemon for them. My terms of payment were specific TMs or Sweet Hearts to ensure I could continue to breed moves. The one thing that annoyed me to no end in HeartGold, though, was how long it took for the Day Care Man to go through his dialogue when checking egg status. I would have liked to have said, "Yes, call me when it's ready, and stop asking me if I want you to call!"

Laura And Krystal are two separate characters, Laura is exclusive to heartgold and takes over for krystal, as she became a professors assistant. Krystal is the “catcher” which is why she’s the one to capture suicune and not eusine. That’s why post game we capture suicune after capturing all other Pokémon.

If I remember the 90s correctly, it's not that video games censor religion, it's that when religious symbols were used in localized games, parents groups pitched a massive fit and it became a massive controversy. Think a slightly smaller version of what happened with harry potter

The taking pokemon for a walk feature was most amazing feature there. But honestly i was just disappointed about my most hyped remakes. They ruined the Golden Rod theme, which used to had a different pace, now with that rather cheerful and playful tune, which has nothing to do anymore with the original tune. But what ultimately ruined the fun for me, was the experience, that the effort values are still limited. I am not a big fan of that system, and so i still wait on a remake of johto in lets go pikachu and eevee style where you can spend hours on farming candies to max out all stats, like it used to be in the original johto games.
