WEIRD Places Johto! (Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver) 

"Battling the Kimono girls in the car on the way to my grandparents' house" You triggered a memory where I was under the exact same circumstances. I was bopping to the theme that plays when you talk to them before battle. I remember my mom not being a fan of the beeps and boops coming from my Gameboy. :(

Gen 2 is basically the dream come true game for many fans. Having all regions in one game. Technically, it DOES have all regions of Pokemon, at the time at least. All 2 of em.

I'm surprised how he doesn't mention the secondary areas in the Ruins of Alph. Those 'writings' on the back are instructions. Like the one that said 'ESCAPE'. If you use an escape rope in front of it, the door opens, revealing another area beyond it with rare items and writing on the floor.

Johto still remains one of my favorite regions in the series. It just feels like you have total freedom to adventure the way you want to. One of my favorite little areas is the little alcove off to the side on Route 34 where the three sisters with Water-type Pokémon battle you. This area is completely unnecessary for finishing the game, but is a cool bonus for anyone who thought to come back to an old area after getting Surf

I remember when I was a kid I thought the sinjo ruins event was fake. I had an arceus so I decided to try it & it actually worked.

I don't like the popular attitude of "what's the point?". For example, the caves like Dark Cave, Ruins of Alph etc. Things don't necessarily happen for a reason, caves appear due to geological circumstances, and ancient ruins aren't obliged to relate to your journey directly. That's the thing of traveling and exploring - things and places are there just because - not for your entertainment. You can witness them, but not necessarily connect to them. I miss the times when you were merely a kid going on an adventure with a pet, and things just happened beside you - now it's all about higher goals, saving the world, being forced to witness ancient legendary pokemon and other bullshit. I miss the cozyness of the Johto region, so thank you for reminding me, sir.

I think stuff like this is what’s missing in Sword and Shield. The routes really do feel hyper limited. The only thing that makes this better is the fact that the dlc has a really nice wild area system. If that’s what we get in the future plus walking Pokémon we could really get a legendary game.

Pokémon Adventures is my childhood. It takes everything good about Pokémon and turns it into a compelling, interesting story with tons of overlap and lore. It feels like the missing piece in the Pokémon franchise; the games are great, but lack story. The manga just feels like the real telling of an abbreviated story.

The connection between Magmortar's name and Mount Mortar would exclusively be an English language thing, however. In Japanese, there's nothing in common between Magmortar and Mount Mortar. Magmortar's Japanese name is Booburn, and Mount Mortar's name is Mount Suribachi. A Suribachi is the Japanese equivalent of a mortar bowl which Mount Mortar is named after, but that's a completely different meaning of "mortar" from the weapon that Magmortar appears to have been named after, either way.

GSC is already 20 years old? Where does the time go...? I'm sure I've made this comment on another video of yours, but I still remember finding the Unown radio channel at the Ruins of Alph. As an easily rattled teenager at the time, it creeped me out to no end, especially since I had found it at night.

When I was younger I loved Arceus and used an action replay on platinum to get one from the hall of origin. I discovered the sinjo ruins naturally and as a kid it was crazy.

You did a good job of explaining why I love Johto so much. There aren’t that many different places/towns compared to other regions, but the places it does have are all amazing. Every city or town feels very different from the last. The Gen 2 games & their remakes are the only Pokémon games that truly make it feel you are an actual resident of the region. Even the NPCs seem more real to me, for whatever reason.

It saddens me i lost my SoulSilver cartridge. Was one of my favourite games as a kid and found out a ton of secrets when i discovered online guides and went back to it.

Every video you make just happens to be so interesting to me I love learning about every game(Pokemon Game).

What I love about the generation 2 games and its remakes is that the post-game was more fulfilling than many of the succeeding games in the franchise. Pokemon should start exploring the relationships between regions in future games. For example, there was an opportunity to actually go to Kanto in the generation 7 games because the protagonist was from Kanto and Lillie visited Kanto in SM.

I remember being blown away at how many legendaries you could obtain in these remakes.

Im surprised you didnt include the Cave behind the Waterfall in the Kanto Johto Falls Cave thingy that is connected to the Celebi event. The cave is also there if you didnt get the event

You can of course still get to the Sinjoh ruins today, but it requires you to expend some phone data, change your hardware DNS, and you must not have visited the ruins beforehand.

Each region has it's pro's and cons. Kanto: it set the groundwork, no real viable story or lore, any lore and story was done through the manga and anime. Johto: it revealed the games can have a story and add lore, it's key part to the franchise overall. However Johto doesn't offer any kind of challenge. Hoenn: the company found it's stride, they had shown that they can have the adventure, build up the evil team, add the lore. However Hoenn is a nightmare to traverse, worst game to traverse. Sinnoh: this region done something very special, it had shown players what a real challenge in Pokemon was, we have to develop our team's properly, learn the stat values, how to optimise your movesets. It really lacked in the evil team department, Cyrus and team Galactic could of been better written. Unova: this region really opened up connectivity on the global stage for players, the map was a decent size, there was endless little nocks and crannies to explore, the evil team was really well developed. The bad thing is they introduced the new XP system in a bad way. It just didn't sit right with fans. Kalos: this region flipped the entire franchise upside down, even the longest running hardcore fans had to relearn everything, mega evolution was amazing, stat training was not as tedious. The issue with this region is very simple, the exp share change, you didn't build a connection with your team, you could sweep the game with a main. Alola: is a knock off of a failed region, it was quickly slapped together. The only good thing Alola introduced was no more HMs taking up valuable move slots, no more need for a HM slave. Galar: would of been amazing on the lore aspect, very limited Pokedex, you can't really run it with your favourite Pokemon. Constantly being stopped to talk to Hop or Sonya was incredibly annoying, the champion was lazy. Leon claimed to be the best champion ever, they introduced the DLC, to which you learn 1 simple thing. No other champion respects him enough or views him as a challenge to even do an expedition match. The game outright states 'youre the new champion of Galar, we won't challenge you because you do not have enough respect'. That translates to Leon is a noob who was incredibly weak. His team wasn't even a surprise since they kept revealing it through the story. There is nothing good about Galar. I think that's what upset fans more than anything, it wasn't the Pokedex slashing the moves being slashed, no it was the fact that for the first time ever an original Pokemon game didn't bring anything to the table.

I don't like Johto. The Pokémon distribution is a mess. You can't catch Houndour or Slugma before the post-game, and if you want a 2nd generation fire-type, you have to stick with Cyndaquil
