Bob Suren asked me to illustrate a bunch of portraits of famous jazz greats for his brand new book, on the verge of being released from Microcosm Publishing called WEIRD MUSIC THAT GOES ON FOREVER: A PUNKS GUIDE TO LOVING JAZZ. It’s a cool book and a real labor of love with a humorous premise of introducing punk rock types to the world of Jazz, which is a pretty original idea and one I was very excited about working on with him. It’s a lot of fun and I talk off the cuff for a few minutes here about the book and my seemingly long journey to even sort of begin to appreciate this music, a lot of which is way more punk rock than most punk rock.
