Great video tim and it fits in perfectly with what i am researching at the moment. I think they are light recesses however not oil lamps just like we see inside and outside churches. I am doing a little screen recording later about this subject so i will send over a copy. The gate house looks amazing its a shame the gates were locked.💚👍
I left Windmill Lane for the bright lights of Sheff over fifty years ago (pre bypass) and haven't been back there since. Can you still get right through into the outskirts of Clumber these days?

@@timawells Not exactly, although my son did in his lunch hour at primary, but I did art and because there are many paintings showing old ruins with dates we were taught how to count in Roman numerals, always been something I can do, although not been that useful to my day to day life, lol.
Be careful on the grounds between this entrance and the abbey they hunt deer and the odd person might not be happy. It’s a shame this place wasn’t ever fully refurbished and open to the public. Also apparently the security will take your cameras if your being nosy around there but I personally have never been caught , yet
