Welcome to an overview of 3D-Coat; a fantastic 3d sculpting, retopology, and texturing painting application. In this tutorial series, I will be going over the basics of 3D-Coat. We'll discuss the basics of the sculpting tools, voxel and surface based workflows, retopology, texturing, and more!
This tutorial series is intended for absolute newcomers to 3D-Coat. I will not be going over every single tool and will gloss over the advanced features.
I hope you enjoy this series and find it useful!

2:10 useful technique 3:00 interesting quad tool 3:55 very nice spline tool for massive polygon drawing 4:45 can slide around vertices with brush tool, can change size, and hold shift to relax 5:12 6:12 diff color is auto, when you link them it becomes same color 6:22 Diff UV shells will be diff colors 7:56 can add edge loops(Both Split rings tool +Points/Faces when hold ctrl) 8:17 slide edge, hold ctrl slide edge ring can only move in edges not on the outer end of the topology Deleting 6:38 delete poly or delete edges 7:05 hold ctrl, can delete entire edge loops 7:28 2 tools to merge vertices (Collapse + Points and Faces tool)

It's almost like your poly modelling the whole thing anyway :-O. Your solid surface modeling (the wing tutorial), what retopo method would make usable models in that scenario?

the big difference is you also get your normals from the sculpt mesh

Thank you for creating this video, retopology is so important yet scares me every time, do you know where I can learn more about retopology? there are too few videos about this :( and I'm tryin to avoid Topogun since it's old software no longer in development...

+HOMAR OROZCO I am the person that uploaded the video, but the AlienMinefield account cannot post comments. There aren't that many retopology programs out there. Topogun used to be the industry standard, now you either use 3d-coat or Zbrush. I personally think the tools are a bit more robust in 3d-coat. Once you understand the basics, there are several tutorials you can find on the 3d-coat website at 3dcoat.com/learn/ They go into a bit more depth about specific retopology tools and techniques. I would also recommend looking at the software documentation at 3d-coat.com/manual/category/retopo/ Learning by reading the documentation is a good skill to have as not all software will have video tutorials.

I wak also wondering about 3D Coat vs. ZBrush for manual retopology. Which do you think works easier/better for Auto-Retopology? Thanks!
