LOL, yes this was the mindset I was taught when I first became a mechanic in the Air Force, my boss was like don't worry about it if you break it. That's what we call training, there was a lot of training. But I learned if we broke it we fixed it!

The rust is one thing, but the other thing is that one of the previous owners has "repaired" some stuff by welding half a ton of steel into the bus. I don't think that makes repairs easier. Stay healthy.

I thought about you today when my wife and I went out on a ride. She is learning to ride a Spyder and I was riding the VW trike. She's only 69 and she had a blast. The VW trike gets lots of attention 😁 Old Pickle is looking good 👍

I like the mixture of you videos, some work on pickle,some work on art projects.some field trip videos. Very sustainable and interesting. I’d like to use that template also.

Thank you! I really do just work that way...creative brains are just wired like that I think. A lot of times I can see the finished result in my mind and so I put the project aside and move on to something else...blessing and a curse I guess. I'm sure whatever you decide to share with us we will all find entertaining!

you are so positive for a really big rusty job and I know you'll do a better job then me plus ive dealt with many ladies that work for police and they are mean mean but that was Texas but your really nice you'll have a great son become a great man. thanks for teaching me alot ive worked on my 61 double cab today it has little rust but its a big job for me you would knock it out in a couple of days. aloha

I look at it differently than most I think,..I see the challenge as the best kind of learning. If I worked on a perfect bus I would never have to challenge myself to think outside the box, with this bus I'm doing that at every turn. As to "nice police" I guess you just have to be on the "science" side of things, I do forensic DNA analysis, I think scientist see the world a little differently. Love, love love double cabs. I saved for one for 20 years and finally found one a few miles from me that I was willing to "afford" but it isn't bullet turn signal like your 61...jealous....thanks for stopping in!

I blew some tips out on my welder the other day as well. I'm using 023 wire....what are you using? This is some serious work. Nice job Marci! =)

CT I think in 10-12 years I’ve used maybe 3 tips, no lie lol and I weld almost daily! But when they go, they just go, I typically use 0.30 for this type stuff!

My work is essential too (medical supplies) but my boss just told me yesterday that I cant work (even from home) until quarentine is over. Needless to say my schedule just filled up with projects 😂

I’ve been watching all of the pickle posts and I’m watching them out of order 😡 the only way I can keep track is by the ones I’ve “liked” I was pretty sure in one of these I heard you mention being a state trooper........ in this one you mentioned it again so I was glad to hear I wasn’t “hearing things” 😂

@@68hitnmiss76 yes...troopers here as well...I see the hitmiss in user name...I am currently building a HM out of an old compressor...I might fail miserably but something I've wanted to try for a while now...That will be on the channel at some point! (hopefully) it is going into another project I'm building! ha (so little time, so many projects)

yea I mess up a lot more when I am filming. that is the issue. you are thinking about camera angle or next shot and not about what your doing.. happens a lot more with me.

haha well I will say having "property" just means you can collect more junk and sometimes that's a bad thing! lol In the neighborhood they call me the "trailer queen" cause I'm always grabbing cheap trailers when I find them and flippin them lol

better put some gas in Ruby. I'm just starting out Mig welding. I've been practicing with the flux core wire. My friend uses the gas Mig it seems faster and a lot less smokey especially if your inside. But watching you it seems the flux core works better on rusty ole Pickle.

I was waiting on someone to comment on the gas gauge...!!!! you WIN the gauge is actually broken so it was full of gas. I just got a replacement from Dad a couple of days ago just haven't fixed it yet...yes flux is smoky, but in my experience works better with the type of JUNK metal I'm usually welding. GOOD luck with the MIG, it is soooo much FUN!

Yes! Love his channel! "RUBY RED" was the actual color name given from VW for that particular red, it's the "paint code" name...so I think a lot of us just call the red ones RUBY...my first ruby red 62 was called Junebug, it had a vanity plate that now runs on the front of my mini. (Indiana doesn't require a licensed front tag so you can run whatever you want)

Dear Misses Marci. 👍👌👏 Good grief, that red ruby beetle started incredibly easy/fast. Congrats! :-) Please tell your little helper that I think that he is a really strong boy. Thanks in advance. 💚 I said it before and I will say it again: Either you are much more brave than I am or much more crazy! Or maybe both? ;-) :-) Every time I see the rusty rotten underside of Pickles I have to shiver. What an incredible amount of effort will be necessary to fix all that. I constantly fluctuate between respect and compassion. By the way: Do you know respectively watch Channel Mic Bergsma (the vids with Koona, his split window bus)? yes I follow MIC, great stuff! on a side note my "foreign language" at university was ASL (American Sign Language) so I find him really entertaining! and YES I am a bit crazy, so this project is right up my lane! 💙

He bought a big pile of rusty 1955 pressed bumper bus parts and puzzles them together now. His kind of videos are definitely not my kind of taste but he does absolutely everything DIY. Marci buy a sawsall and use DeWalt blade for alot off your metal cutting it saved me alot working and keeps spark off everything

I have a couple of sawsalls but I think I'm more accurate with the cut off wheel and a plasma cutter! lol I will likely be using all three on this heap!

I think 70 is the top speed for my bug, I usually keep her around 55, 60 tops. Anything faster and she is screaming, I guess the combo of the original transmission and 40 horsepower engine makes for a Sunday driver every day.

the beetle has a stock 40hp, stock tranny, but I will say this...it is a very strong 40~ I've had a few of them and this one runs top notch!

YES and YES!! I am in forensics, science as applied to law! ha I do DNA and Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (Bloodspatter) specifically but we handle pretty much all of the forensics within the state. We do firearms, fingerprints, microanalysis (Trace_), drug analysis, etc.

Love your can do attitude. Your rotisserie makes undercarriage work easer. I made one 7 years ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FzPzO6ECh8c.html I was just thinking that you could balance the bus with some sandbags or bricks securely fastened to the roof or rotisserie. That would do away with the dangerous ratchet cables so your five year old could spin it for you.

yes, I have watched your videos many times and am very thankful for you putting them up! the ratchets are there so he DOESN"T turn it! lol I put them on and put the handles up on the high side on purpose...this kid is Mr. Busy...I have to out think him on almost everything....I wish I could have afforded to do new steel like you did but I just used junk and it thus far has worked great!

On mine I also built a couple of ring to ring "braces" that I can use to stand on (I'm so short, was trying to think of ways to help there) so with the come alongs on I can literally lock it in any position and pretty much physically stand anywhere on the bus and it just stays put...again thanks to your videos I was even able to figure this out! so THANK YOU!

@@marcijunebug I really enjoy hearing your thought processes as you work through problems and solve them. That you include this in you videos shows others the successful means to an end. Well done and worth the effort. I found on my rotisserie that keeping the two bases separate allowed them to squirm around on the floor compensating for irregularities in my rings. You connected them together I see and get some binding as a result. It works anyway good on you.

Yes, I built it first with them separate but found with those crowned wheels (I would choose different ones if I built another) it wanted to “walk” a bit.
