Supposing I had had a bad day, all I would need to do is come here in the evening. Soothing, invigorating display of true musical talent. Just for the taking. Just unbelievable.
Luscious harmony! Very well done. The Andrew Sisters set the pace for such intricate harmonies that is quite perfect for the female voice ranges. I love barbershop quartets for men's voices, but this "big band" sounds is best suited for the feminine range, and these singers flat-out nail it! Feelin' it and Diggin' it!
Something I've noticed in all their videos, everyone in the band looks like they're having a great time. Nobody looks like they're working. That makes a big difference in how a band sounds. If you love what you're doing, it comes across and the audience picks up on it. As I write this I've been playing guitar for over 58 years and playing big band and other jazz over 20 years. I can tell anyone it's hard to sound this good and make it look easy.
Usually the imitators of the Andrews Sisters fall very far from the originals. But these three chicks really do a great job on this song. The band ditto.
They seem to have 'family voice' like the Mcguire's, Lennons, Boswell's, and yes the Andrew Sisters. Yet they are probably not sisters. I think their magic is in keeping their tone mellow with a few necessary exceptions. Anyway you are quite right, the Wartime Radio Review can hold their own with any swing group from any time period.
@@buddyroeginocchio9105 I have a very long connection to The Royal Navy UK and Met. Police, London. A VERY LONG STORY IN WHITCH I ALMOST DIED MAKING AN ARREST, I LOST SO MUCH BLOOD, I LOST MY JOB AS A COPPER. I SOOO LOVE "BIG BAND" I was a multi-instrumontalst in The Royal Navy Band, trained by a Sgnt. in The Royal Marine Band. I recorded over 8 albums and 3 double albums, FREE IF YOU WOULD LIKE THEM, just send me a contacxt addrerss. My radio show had, proven, OVER, FIFTEEN MILLION LISTENERS!! DO YOU WANT THE RADIO SHOWS?????
Great listening! Love all the gals out front and ALWAYS love the sound of a professional big band like this one. Reminds me of my youth listening to this swing music.
Wow, I just stumbled across this video, six years after it was posted. You know, back when I was living in L.A. County (Whittier, actually), from '97 to '04, I took up swing-dance lessons -- there was swing-dance craze at the time, and I'd always loved the music. There was a dance hall at the old Odd Fellows Temple in downtown Whittier where Pete Jacobs' Wartime Radio Revue played on a regular basis. I really think this band and the Bill Elliot Swing Orchestra were really the best local bands that were part of that scene -- and I'm glad to be reminded of them by this outstanding number. A quick glance at the Internet shows me the band is still going strong. Glad to see it!
Baby boomer here. This music is a little before my time, but I enjoy it just the same. I really appreciate the great voices and harmony from the ladies and the band is wonderful as well!
I like how this video was posted 6 years ago but the views have doubled since I last checked a few days ago. I wonder what’s up with the all of a sudden view explosion! Awesome
I’m astounded by their talent. I mean obviously they are beautiful and great singers and players but technically speaking they’re absolutely BRILLIANT. Top of their respective fields in every conceivable way. True musical heavy weights. As an amateur singer and musician for many years I am in awe.
@Sunflower Seeds all 3 are great. In fact the whole band is great. The one on the left is Christie, she is Pete’s daughter. She kind of reminds me of Amy Poheler, but she can belt it out in a soulful Paul McCartney type of way, The one in the middle I think her name is Jamie? She is very talented singer. I like how she looks at the camera and smiles, and last but definitely not least on the right is Heather! She has a very sweet sounding voice and when they show her it makes my heart go a thump da thump. Lol. All three ladies have great harmony. And there all beautiful ladies unlike what the jerk commented above put.
Che bello ascoltare le vostre performance, siete bravissime. Io sono un musicista e suono in diverse big bands, il vostro repertorio è splendido. GRANDI!!!!
My dad served in the Pacific theater at the end of WWII. I was born in 1954 in upper Manhattan (Hudson Hgts.). My dad had many albums from the well known big bands, jazz bands and a few others like the Chad Mitchell Trio
I like these young ladies and of course the band too. I got one celebrity autograph in my life and it is from Dawn Wells/Mary Ann. These ladies got it and I like it! They make me feel good because I like the music and they sing it with heart.
they are more than comparable to the Andrews Sisters. . . . I respect them because they sing with the image of keeping the Andrews girls' memory alive. And set a reputation for themselves in the new age, keeping this music swinging !
A little Tacky Annie action going on there. Pete Jacobs is local to us in Southern California, so we enjoyed many of their performances. Always a big draw at the Orange County Fair until the fair management spoiled all the fun by deciding to go with themes and whatever. Well all right!
Hate to be that guy but if you have listened to the original. This one doesn't have that ommphf and timber. Also it should fade as the song goes on. Good try.
Do you know why I watched this presentation to the end, because the drummer held the sticks in the tradition grip, or the grip that was in vogue at the time, I have visited several nostalgic music sites and seen the drummers [The Buddy Holly Story is a prime example,] using the match grip, Jerry Allison must have been very annoyed.
They sing great but their hair doesn't fit the scene; it's too messy. Back then the hair styles were not messy.. kind of ruins the fantasy, makes them look out of place. Again, these girls sing great, sound just like the 40s but they should take a que from Britain's Got Talent's "The D-Day Darlings" on the look and mannerisms. Still, I would pay to see these girls. Good job.
