I sure wish people would stop buying this up to just turn around and try to gouge people with high prices who just want to enjoy a great bourbon! Great review! Cheers 🥃

Couldn't agree more. It's really not worth the secondary prices but it was created for people who couldn't afford pappy. Now it's hard to afford a bottle of this in most places. Cheers b

Jason, I literally just got a bottle for $30. I'm a rewards member of a liquor store down here in Florida. I've spent enough money there where I finally got access to what they call "The Vault." They open it to members online a few times a year for only 1 day. Everything is sold for retail. There were about 10 whiskys. You can only get 1 bottle. All the Pappy was gone. I chose the Weller over the Blantons because it was half the price with the age statement. I'm a little concerned about the 90 proof, but for $30 you can't beat it. Great review by the way.

Great review Jason! Weller 12 retails for $28.95 in Oregon, BUT it is never on the shelf since it’s allocated. We do see Special Reserve ($24.95) and sometimes OWA 107 ($26.95). Recently went to a blind tasting that included Weller 12, Antique 107 and Elmer T. Lee. Antique 107 and Elmer came out ahead of the Weller 12, but they were all good! Love the history information you include...

Wow, nice bottle of Weller 12 and a great review plus head to to head to boot. To me the Weller 12 sounds like a complex caramel and the Weller Reserve is an awesome cotton candy, so in respects as you said they are two different bourbons. Cheers to finding those great whiskies!

Great overview! Weller 12 came to Alberta this fall first time ever & all shops that received an allocation charged a fair price $55-60 cdn, except 1 was asking $99. Decent whisky, glad I didn’t pay the crazy marked up prices we are currently seeing. Weller SR is always available here, retails for ~$45. Cheers M&D
@TheMashandDrum
@TheMashandDrum 5 лет назад
Thanks Fisky. 55-60 cdn isn't bad. I may pay that considering how hard to find this is. But the marked up prices are definitely not worth what your getting at 90 proof. Cheers!

The hype is real, when it came out the Abraham Bowman sweat XVI was the pappy recipe people went ape shit over it. Dam $60 dollar bottle flew to over 1200$ because people where calling it the “Pappy 16”. Thank god I went to the distillery to get my two. Watched a fight break out over tickets for people in line.
@TheMashandDrum

Great video. Too bad for me that the Weller line is pretty much a unicorn here on Oahu Hawaii. I did see a the 107 and Special Reserve on the big island last month. The 107 was going for $80 and the Special Reserve for $120. I just couldn't bring myself to pay those inflated prices.🤙

That was again a great review. The opening music is also just fantastic. The Weller 12 still evades my searches for a bottle. Having just obtained a OldRip Van Winkle 10 recently the ‘type’ and style of these bourbons in very intriguing. Thanks for the review and beautifully well done video Jason!!

Wow 5 years ago Weller 12 MSRP was only $30-35? People were lucky back then. In 2024 Weller 12 MSRP is $69.99. Doubled in price, that is if you can find it for MSRP because all Weller is hard to find nowadays

Hi Jason, now after 3 years of this video, would you still say $150 is too much for a Weller 12? Because I could get one at this price here in Germany and I'm unsure if I should pull the trigger 😅 Btw I love Buffalo Trace, my favorite is the Eagle Rare 10. Thanks for your help!

This flow-down from the Pappy madness never fails to amaze me. Five or six years ago, Weller 12 was an easy-to-find, mid-shelf product that pretty much assumed the role of go-to ‘wheater’ for anyone who wanted something different from the regular bourbons and ryes. It was available everywhere for $30 to $35 (I think I paid $32 for my last bottle). It’s good, but in a blind tasting (our whisky club did a blind tasting of this) it wouldn’t receive the accolades it currently attracts due to the pappy hype.
@TheMashandDrum
@TheMashandDrum 5 лет назад
I would agree Frank. That's why I think once it gets up to that 80-100 dollar mark, even though the bourbon is very delicious, it's just not worth that price point. Rather buy a 100 proofer with more bite for half the price. Cheers and thanks for watching.

Hi Jason, I had my first one of this tonight (along with the 107 for LaMdW/France at 53,5 % & the Special Reserve, 3 samples from cool guys here...) and I fell in love with it, this is so sexy & melted, complex, generous, refined, wow ! I must find one now ! Cheers ! PS I thought the mashbill was including kinda 30 % wheat & 20 % Rye something like that, plus corn & m.barley ? this is so different than anything I've tried so far !
@TheMashandDrum
@TheMashandDrum 4 года назад
Yeah this is buffalo traces wheated mashbill. It's unknown what the proportions are but generally they are high in corn..70 ish percent. Wheat is the second dominant grain followed by barley. The 12 years does give this a caramel and chocolate flavor to it. I'm impressed by the balance. 12 year old bourbon is not always such. Cheers.

Hmmm. There isn't many. I would take ALOT of bourbons that are under 100 over Weller 12...the ones that come to mind are EH Taylor barrel proof and last year's Birthday bourbon from old Forester. Any of the Masters keeps from Wild Turkey I would take over this as well. There are some out there.

I picked up three for $120/per, then decided it was too expensive to actually drink - the same conclusion I reached with a stock of rarities I have in the closet. Forrester 1920 is very highly rated and goes for $55 or $60. If MSRP is a gauge of parts and labor + profit, we really need to be looking for labels in the $40 area and not allowing ourselves to get ripped off - as I did. My future standard will be: does the bourbon allow me to sip of an evening of cards, movies, books, or music, while enjoying the taste and mellow head without concentrating on the price and the bourbon marketplace.
@TheMashandDrum
@TheMashandDrum 5 лет назад
Yeah I would pay the 55 for the 1920 because the proof and flavor warrants in to me. The 120 dollar price tag on the Weller 12 in some places just doesn't. Thanks for watching! Cheers.
