Mary Godwyn is raising the alarm about incidents of bullying she says her daughter has faced at a Wellesley elementary school. Tina Opie, a former Wellesley resident, has a similar story about the way her two Black children were treated while in the same school system several years ago. They both joined Jim Braude with their stories.
After this segment was filmed, Wellesley Public Schools responded to the earlier request for comment from 'Greater Boston.' Watch the update here: • Wellesley Public Schoo...

I seriously think the school administration/system is part of this problem 😐.

Going thru it with Wellesley Public School with my 3 year old black son smh. David Lussier is lackluster in his approach to reach out to parents. Disenrolling my son soon

I was called 'slank-eye' when I volunteer as a lunch parents in Wellesley Middle School, this May, by a few students, right in front my face, completed with the hand-eye gesture. I reported to school but I don't think school admin acted on it.

There was another Asian kid assaulted by an African American kid twice, got beaten badly. The victim's parents decided to give the bullier a chance to learn from mistakes, not to pursue the issue, as the bullier acknowledged problem and guaranteed not to do it again.

so sorry this is happening. the areas outside of Boston are very white and the trouble lies entrenched in the history of the place. Some of us are not so far removed from the history there that has been covered and buried. In the old days my family settled from Italy on Donazetti Street. The farm my grandfather labored on has disappeared and been erased by those who wanted to cover up that dark history. Naturally my family did not stay in Wellesley as times changed. My great grandmother made wedding dresses for the wealthy families in Wellesley. Although the men in the family ended up doing very well, I would never say the same for the women. As a child I often found myself relating to black and brown skinned children than white children but there were not many black and brown children as the 70s and 80s marched ahead with the explosion of the tech industry. I hope that you and your family can find a place to be you. I hope that for me too! I am still looking. And...far from Wellesley.

I talked with a few neighbors, we all feel Mary's pain, please transfer August to another school, like Hardy, that school administrators really nice, or Schofield as Tina mentioned while you are pursuing this issue to the next stage. I supposed Tina went to the police to resolve her son's false accusation too. As parents and guardians to young kids, we will have to fight for them! I completely agree with Tina's last comment

I sincerely hope and pray that young August is now safe, happy, thriving, and excelling in school. With that said, it would be great if August could learn some basic defense moves so that she'll feel better and more confident in standing up for herself as she grows up. I see a bit of myself in August when I was her age. A boy who sat in the row next to mine kept pulling my ponytail, yet even after repeatedly telling him to stop, he persisted. Feeling fed up and tired of his shenanigans, I gave him one final warning that I would slap him if he did it again. Sure enough, he pulled, and I got up from my desk and slapped him hard, making good on my promise. Unfortunately, the teacher only chose to take action against me that day by immediately marching up to me and whacking my hand three times really hard with her golden rubber sole. It hurt like crazy, but that boy never pulled my hair again.

Wednesday rally was about 6 white boys assaulted Sean Ade, who is also white. No racial involved. As a matter of fact, during last two months, there were multiple emails about insensitive racial words from principal and superintendent, claiming zero tolerance, but not a word about real criminal acts.

@@marilyncoyne4034 Sean has been bullied for a few months before the summer break. Even when this escalated incident happened, Sean and his parents hesitated to go to police, they asked the police to hold on action further after detailed consideration from the whole family. Somebody brought this up on Facebook right before school started, lots of discussions bursted, which caused shutdown on that topic. Many community members already know it by then. However, the school never notified families even though they sent out many messages about insensitive words during the same period
