It’s definitely not x100. A lot of people listen to podcasts while driving. The primary appeal for many (most?) lies in the ideas.

"I knew I was a poet. I knew it was my destiny to make films." From almost anyone else, this would be a pretentious, gaudy, self-serving statement. Herzog pulls it off. Wonderful interview, Lawrence. One of the absolute best. Fascinating man. Mr. Herzog, you'll never read this, but I met you once, briefly, in San Francisco, in 2014. I was carrying a pizza on my way home. I think you'd had some event at USF, not sure. Just off Fulton St. You were leaving a cafe with another gentleman and presumably busy, but very gracious when I stopped to say hello. We spoke for 3 or 4 minutes at most, and I brought up "Cave Of Forgotten Dreams" and "Lessons Of Darkness" and traveling. You sidebarred into an Agnes Varda documentary, and asked if the margherita pizza had "goat milk". You were busy and had company, but DAMN, I still wish I'd dared to invite you over for dinner with my family. For those interested, there's another awesome, if older, interview with Herzog and Jonathan Demme here on YT that I re-watched after listening to this. Demme opens by reading a letter Roger Ebert wrote to Herzog (circa 2007/8) about "Encounters At The End Of The World" that rings so true.

I love Werner Herzog, his sincerity and grounding. He tells the story of being stranded in Pittsburgh as a young man and being adopted by a family as their 6th child. I reflected about whether I could get the same Midwestern hospitality as a young black man. Would walking across Europe or America or any other continent be a viable thing for me? This planet has very much been fashioned in the past 5 centuries to cater to white men. Even in China or Africa they get more respect and consideration than the rest of us. This applies as well to language that has been tweaked to empower them and to disempower the rest. When people get hounded over language and other “ little things” and people get “canceled” over mistakes from misspent youth, it is cultural uprising against “the man”. Until you understand this, you misinterpret what is going on. Mistakes by young men are understandable growing pains. Pregnancy of a young woman could destroy her entire future. Identical mistakes by a black man could be fatal or result in a lifetime of incarceration. These constituents and others are saying “enough” and white guys at all ends of the political spectrum cry about being canceled. Mr Herzog is better than many of these but...
@janhenkel4459
@janhenkel4459 2 года назад
lol Yeah, cancelling people is so liberating for the poor and disenfranchised. It's not just a way for retards with no satisfactions in real life to feel more powerful and righteous. What a load of gibberish and clichés.

@@johnmorgan5495 i'm amazed you can not see the difference between a complaint and a community sourced heads up (or QA). It happens about 6 times at multiple locations in the podcast so it might just not been noticed. Nobody in his right mind can expect that he listens to the full 2 hours. I doubt he even listened once to the whole thing. Which is totally normal for podcasts of this length.

The overpopulation idea needs challenging. Current world population is around 7.5b, Earth could easily and sustainably harbour 30b if we were serious about sustainability and waste management. And a large proportion of the population are not consumers, they're survivors and live very efficient lives.

The infrastructure to support 30 billion people would be the challenge. Their consumption of energy and diverse resource requirements would be catastrophic to the current biosphere.

the state we are in now and where things are accelerating towards is by human design. We are overpopulated bcs of the limitations that being a human contains, mainly greed and lack of empathy (especially to humans we don't feel related to). Yes, things can be steered in a certain direction but this only goes so far (history can back me up on this). So no, we cant practically sustain 30b people.
