On this new Westinghouse iGen 4500 generator I didn't care for the oil change design. WAY TOO MESSY! So I came up with a hack, see what you think.

Love the video Pete. I need more content, though. Maybe a whole-home Automatic transfer standby generator. Full kitchen remodel. Tiny home update. Other day-to-day man stuff you do. The fans need more videos.

Sean, you are spot on. Ive been slacking lately. I blame the person I live with.( my editor the wife). I was actually actually thinking the exact same thing. Need you to hook up a nice interlock plug in the garage!!. Great to talk to you. Oh, tell your parents the berries have just bloomed. First picking will be in July. They are on the text tree!!!

Thank you so much for your video. It's almost impossible to drain the oil and loosen that 10 mm drain plug without drilling your hole and using an extension and socket. I purchased a 8 mm by 1.25 Barb fitting, and connected a piece of 3/8" fuel line hose and poke it through that 1-in plug hole. Next on the end of that I put another Barb fitting and a cap so now it just take the cap off and the oil drains out the rubber hose.

Genius Mike!! You need to put that on a video!! It just amazed me that they put so little thought into draining the oil. Other than that, the generator is awesome. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

I installed a Drainzit HON1010 hose that I purchased on eBay. Makes the process very simple. Yes, not a good drain port design. Westinghouse had little or nothing to do with the production of this generator. Westinghouse consumer products no longer exist as an entity except in a trademark that anyone (including you if you have enough money) can license and use. All consumer products with Westinghouse name on it is used under license. Westinghouse consumer products died in the 1970's. It's the same with other well-known US manufacturers such as RCA and GE. The names are used under license and the products are made by the Chinese. I only run my generator on propane, NEVER gasoline.

Sad, but true. So much of our manufacturing has gone to foreign countries like China, Mexico and much of southeast Asia. Practically everything sold on Amazon comes from China. The drainzit is just a more expensive version of a garden hose. Alittle spendy at $27.00 But definitely makes a difficult job way easier.

Thanks Pete, nice adaptation to very cramped quarters in there. I liked the 1" hole that you drilled for easy access. What is the black rubber drain plug even used for, it seemed like it was just in the way

Hi Ray. I think they designed it to keep any leftover oil from dripping out the bottom of the generator. Not a great design!!. Some of the videos I've seen are crazy, with guys stacking soup cans under the generator. I almost bought the Champion 4500, but my brother really liked his Westinghouse. And now that Ive used it, I'm glad I bought it. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Do you know the size of the crush washer on the drain plug? They say it should be replaced every oil change. Nice idea, btw.

Gosh, I do not know the size. I got lucky on the oil change, and did not replace mine. But its always a good idea. I do know the bolt head is a 10mm. I would get a 1/4", 5/16" and a 3/8". Its got to be one of those. Let me know what you find out!! Thanks for watching.
