I feel ya! I didn’t dislike it my first time, but it was a bit mellow for my tastes. About 4 listens later, it won’t get out of my head. Songwriting skill is out of this fucking world!
Anthony i know its been a few months but im still mad that you have Wild Time as your least favorite track. Its 1 am and im high and im crying listening to Titanic Rising and Wild Time is on rn as im angrily typing this comment
Originally, I found the song to be in the mid tier of what the album offers. However, one day it hits me and I realize just how incredible and beautiful the song is. Now I’m confused how Melon has it as his least favorite.
@@GREENWARRI0R You really gonna name an interlude for worst track THATS A BITCHMADE ANSWER. I want the HARD answer you can't say either titanic rising or closer to thee ^^
@@jajassa1 I can, because it was an artistic choice to include that song in the album. Titanic Rising I like, because it is a great bridge from Something to Believe to Movies, almost as if after Something To Believe you are taking the plunge into the dark, spacey sounds that play throughout Movies. Closer To Thee, for me doesn't really do much other than "oh here is an instrumental to finish the album". Didn't really move me in anyway like the rest of the tracks did. If you really want me to name another track, I would say Mirror Forever is still a weaker track than Wild Time.
That’s interesting because I think that “Wild Time” is the summit of this album. This track reminds me Jessica Harper/Phoenix (Phantom of the Paradise). The evolution/progression is really subtle, it never bounces you to the evidences or emphasises. It’s a masterclass in songwriting. Some would kill to catch that grace. This kind of few lucky tracks you hope in a lifetime of a songwriter. I discovered Weyes Blood and Thelma with your “Worst to Best tracks”review, so I’d like to say : thank you.
Ducourant Rodrigue just listened to this album (and Weyes Blood) for the first time, and I thought of Jessica Harper too! I’m a big fan of Phantom of the Paradise and Shock Treatment (also Suspiria but she doesn’t sing in that).
Dont always trust fantanano. He pronounce Aminé’s name wrong for a loooong time. The correct pronunciation is Ameen-Ay but he kept going Ah-muh-nay for so long. There was even a skit on Amine’s album about the correct pronunciation of his name and melon missed that
I literally come back to this album just to cry to Mirror Forever for like 2 hours - It's an album I will literally always have in the back of my mind.
Wild Time is so fitting with the current state of the world -- it's as if she delved into the future and saw there was a song to be made in relation to it.

Two years on and I'm still not over how he gave Wild Time a bad review! It's her beautiful poem about the tragedy of the human condition and for some reason he thinks its the worst song on an album that he gave a 9?
it's funny, it seems like every time fantano gives a super positive review to an album that i also love there's always one track he thinks is kinda boring (in this case mirror forever) which invariably turns out to be my favourite from the record
One of the best albums I've ever heard. 10/10 for me but I am cool with a 9. I actually think her voice is pretty unique. I absolutely love the vibrato and the way she abruptly fluctuates between notes over the same word (not sure what that's called).
Ngl, Wild Time and Mirror Forever are two of the best tracks, the guitar line on Mirror Forever makes it sound like the Carpenters produced by art-rock era Eno. 9/10 for sure though.
I think she uses love as a way to explore and bridge concepts of the individual, the eternal, the real, the virtual and the fear of trying to reconcile them. But I'm also glad your reviews are very concrete and generally don't include stupid stuff like what I just wrote
I really can’t get enough of this album since I discovered it about a month. I’m really satisfied with this review. First, because I really really love this album, 10/10 for me; and secondly, I can now pronounce her name right lol.
Picture me better has the worst tune and instrumental on the album and it's still great. Wild time has the best tune too and you put it in your favorite list. 10/10
Karen Carpenter is such a strong front and center sound reference wether weyes blood intends it or not....I'm surprised you don't mention it...It's mostly in her vocal style and sound......I agree cool record...loads of 60's and 70's soundscapes...
So I *did* hear Kate Bush in parts of this record. Thx for the validation! 💥 btw, this is an utterly gorgeous/sad/nostalgic/futuristic album through and through. Just listened to it today......❤️❤️❤️
So glad to see you reviewing Weyes Blood, and giving her a great score! I would love if you checked out Drugdealers upcoming record, Raw Honey. He has collaborated with Weyes Blood a lot, (on that record too, comes out Friday 4/19), as well as Ariel pink. I’ve got the vinyl and listened and it is amazing fantastic
