0:05 actually he’s from Missouri. Not that I actually care about getting the facts right for him but as a Minnesota native I don’t want the slander of my state’s people.
Remember when everyone was fucking fuming that Tyler The Creator said this dude's music was awful and then he showed them by continuing to get worse and worse
@@sickloc Yeat already makes relatively repetitive/similar sounding songs (sometimes a good thing, sometimes not). Having ANOTHER guy taking inspo from the guy who already sounds repetitive was not gonna go well, which is exactly what Ian sounds like to me
Ian's music is reminiscent of early Chief Keef, early rage music, early yeat music. Just because Ian is white doesn't mean he can't take a genuine interest in rap music. He is speaking about what matters to him and in a perspective that's relatable to many people. You're welcome to disagree but if you liked alot of these things he's influenced by, he's doing his most authentic version of that. In regards to the type of beats/producers many people like that early 2010's "cheap" sound.
@@Jumsut_ "How does, and I mean this as a compliment, the most fuckable twink I've ever seen in my life tell me how to manage my T-levels? Is he speaking from experience?" was also absolutely brutal. Different guy, but same video. A sick bar every minute.
calling it now we're gonna get some real inescapable radio hits in 2-3 years when he pivots away from hip hop entirely after using the genre as a stepping stone to fame
@@warnejosephno post Malone is actually a great musician and songwriter. Man’s got like 6 diamonds songs lol I don’t think Ian is quite capable of doing that even posts earlier work like white Iverson was unique. That’s the thing post is himself and Ian is a clone. Clones don’t have longevity you gotta have ur own sound
To be fair, in order to engage in a thoughtful discussion about this album, I'd have to subject myself to listening to it and yeah, I'd really rather not.
I don't think that most people in the younger gen are looking for music like this, and if they are there are plenty of drake albums to listen to. I think this is only really an artist for a layman audience that isn't really looking for anything specific in their music. I'd be extremely surprised to see him go much further than this.
I think the appeal is a bit deeper than that. many people like simple rap and Ian is effectively easy listening for rap fans. I don’t know anyone who is expecting a true hit from Ian, which puts him in a strange lane. he showed us that he gets the music objective and now he can tread water. it’s like a youtuber who doesn’t do anything new or unique, but you kinda like watching them bumble through a content portfolio. there’s.. charm? to that. on the flip side, everything i just said could just be an excuse to pat myself on the back for sitting through some mid
@@jay_344 thats a fair shake, but in terms of just looking for simpler stuff I think there's so many better options, I don't really understand why anyone would opt to put their time into this versus a gallery of artists who are perfectly fine staying in a lane while doing it better. it's an odd thing that I've seen with some artists that have been getting somewhat big with internet popular sub genres aswell.
same, it’s something i genuinely look forward to 😂 when there’s a dry spell i like to go back and rewatch some of the iconic ones (best example being angelic 2 the core)
horses were invented by the government to cover up the existence of unicorns and as a part 2 to this comment, as per my my unspoken contract with fantano, I must say some shit that stirs up a bunch people for no reason: I think Ian’s music isn’t bad and I enjoy it. it isn’t deep, but 99% of the music I listen to isn’t deep. influence isn’t enough of a disqualifier for me
Idk, if you’re a hip hop nerd, you can at least tell that Ian knows a lot about the history of trap music. The bars might not be that great, and there’s almost no personality, but it’s nowhere near as exploitative as the stuff Lil Mabu does.
Exactly like i think the album is listenable and has pretty good enjoyable moments and at its worst it isn’t bad just mediocre. It’s not listening to something absolutely absurd or mind bending but it’s enjoyable to listen to.
Yo anthony about 3 years ago i donated 5 dollars on a stream and asked if you had listened to ruben slikk. You said no and that you would check him out. I have heard nothing from you since then. I think the only just recourse here is for you to review his album "king astroslikk the magnificent" In all seriousness it's an amazing album from a dude that could definitely use some help/exposure rn
I feel like "Goodbye Horses" would be a really good album title for something rather jovial. Under Ian's god awful everything, the "Goodbye Horses" title comes off as word salad, crafted by someone artistically and intellectually uninterested. I can only hope Ian's career fizzles out sooner rather than later.
@@javiartem saint chroma is the name of the character. “ST. CHROMA” is the intro as “IGOR’S THEME” is to “IGOR” and “Sir Baudelaire” is to “Call Me If You Get Lost”
Tbh I know it’s weird but handsome+jock/basic bitch frat bro vibe+ weed+ money, connections+ chronically online spongebrain(Ian)+ ironic album covers. As much as it’s uninspired, the kid knew how to get the hype. Not giving him credit per say, but I can’t act clueless as to how he got here
I personally liked his last album but didnt listen to this new one yet, i think hes just someone whos able to catch on to the current sound and is using social media to show he can blow up from it, not really trying to create his own sound hes just trying to benefit from it & the culture/social media
I’d sure hope the established mainstream artist who’s been around for over a decade would mop the floor with a 19 year old who just started getting attention this year lmao
@@bigballerdefault1054they’re pretty much saying that Tyler’s album will overshadow this gimmick rapper’s album by a landslide and it’ll actually display talent and creativity in hip hop as apposed to this tasteless attempt at rap
@@impyasad again… why? Comparing them is useless, obviously tyler will sell more he’s just the larger artist, also I don’t really care if tyler’s project will be good or bad, or if Fantano doesn’t like ian, Ian’s got quite a few tuff songs on that tape
But he has real honest fans, is not like he is "trolling", he just has no talent and is copying more talented artists. Ultimately fantano opinion matters very little to people that have never listened to a single hip hop album in their life.
@@Noirlore hes a plant. He had an akademiks post before he started (which costs a shit ton), he has a manager who has worked with big names, hes also signed to a major label
This is the modern era, where 5 secs of fame gets stretched out over like 5 years until ian is down to hosting his own podcast as his main source of income
5:02 can somebody tell me the most up to date hip hop, trap, electronic music with most interesting snares, drums, Etc? Like what should I be listening to?
Eh this project is underwhelming but fantano doesn’t have authority/the ear for trap music. You can have a legendary and very “experimental” beat with conventional snare sounds, 808, cymbals.. like that’s what being inspired is. Tons of newer “hyperpop” or rage beats use the same hi hats and 808s yet it’s more about the synths, the composition.. what the chords/melody evoke. There’s no right thing you “should” be listening to. I like lil shine, Xaviersobased, Laker Brady, Bladee, zelooperz, Joeyy, Sickboyrari. They all use convention trap drums yet the beats go hard in my opinion
@@debbiecrankin Well you think they suck, a lot of people don’t, fantano has given positive reviews to some of their projects, go listen to Eminem or whatever you like. What the fuck does “up to date” even mean? There’s folk music released a week ago that still uses the same guitars bob Dylan used, yet it can sound fresh. It’s not some linear technological progression. That’s not how music works. If you listen to Coat I would Buy -Joeyy and can’t even fathom how that’s be fun to turn up to, that is sad.
What a coincidence!... Just last week I was listening to a song called "GoodBye Horses" by Psyche and I love that song! I got scared that Fantano was referring to Psyche but he's referring to "Ian" with the same Goodbye Horses title!
I saw this coming when that shit dropped a week ago. No one talked about it, the album didn't have a Wiki page, there were zero review scores, and the album had been out for a full day and a half by that point.
i get the sentiment but lows vs highs is objectively a bigger distinction when mids aren't involved. its like how black seems darker on a checkerboard than in a gradient
It's something that tends to happen linguistically to words, they start to get more extreme over time. Mid might have meant 'average' or 'underwhelming' to begin with but now it more often means 'crappy' or 'worthless'
