@@martagerner493 a two week notice is a form that you hand in to your superior in advance when you plan on quitting your job. I think it's to make sure you get your last paycheck before you dip
Agreed. Though, technically speaking, she is buying 'the internet'. Because of the the hassle involved in getting connections, etc, if nothing else, it feels like you're buying. He was patient, generous in attitude, and seemed helpful beyond what his job was. He deserves a raise and a paid one month holiday to wherever he wants, first class.
The one confused about taxes could have very well been foreign. In other countries taxes are included in the price so this isn't something you have to consider on top of your total typically...
I thought the same thing, but it makes no sense the fact that the woman explained and she didn't know what taxes are. Unless, she didn't know what the *word* "taxes" mean (that's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with). Because every adult SHOULD know what taxes are, because every country has it. And I say it as a foreign person that taxes are included in the price.
That's what I thought initially until she said she didn't agree to the tax. I legitimately think this woman doesn't understand the concept of taxes in general because every country has taxes. It's not something you can opt out of.
On the tax thing: I'm European (Italy) and taxes are already included on the price tag. I was flabbergasted when I went to Canada and saw a sweater I wanted being charged extra lol
Sjddh same. When i was like 12 we went to the US and my parents let me go buy something on my own, before going to the register i counted my money and prepared exactly what i needed so I wouldn’t be nervous counting foreign money in front of the cashier... When i went up to pay amd the price was more i thought MY PARENTS WARNED ME ABOUT THIS I FORGOT so panicking i just gave the cashier all my money and asked for help. I hope she didn’t rip me off lol
@@Candy-md1uk I've never left my country, so this exact thing hasn't happened, but I always freak out over counting money in front of others, too. I quadruple check, sometimes. Honestly, I don't know if I'll be able to go to countries that don't include tax in the price. I'm getting so anxious just thinking about it. Gotta love that Social Anxietyyyy-y~!
Someone I know went to a gas station for the first time to buy a chocolate bar in Canada, she was from Asia and tax is also included in the price. So when she saw that the chocolate bar was $1 she paid her $1 grab the chocolate bar and the cashier called out to her in that she didn't pay him enough, she was so embarrassed because people might have thought that she stole the chocolate
@@sophiejones304 It's so pointless to not include it. But I can guess that it's so companies can charge "alright" prices, and then when tax is added, slog more money than expected out of consumers' wallets. You must have extremely laxed expectations on how much everything costs, and I'd think that results in trust issues, honestly. Does Canada have a standard price you have to multiply by, or does it change based on the product? I also think it's also worth critiquing the years of education that are spent on this topic (especially in the US, which I've heard it discussed more about). If you ignored the other factors, you'd see just how much better the standard of, usefulness, and application of learnt education is in the EU and UK, and other countries with tax included. An extremely generalised assortment, but I've seen similar propositions before. Stories I've heard from students in the US who took the basic, required maths course (no idea, but taught all throughout middle school?) is that they only learnt and remembered how to calculate the tax that has to be added on, and that's it. And if that was all that you learnt, remembered, and could apply in everyday situations, then you were doing well and you haven't failed the failed system. As someone who doesn't have to calculate the selling price with tax excluded when buying, but still has to learn how to influence a price by manipulating the 10% GST rate here, I can say confidentially that I know much more out of my not even world-class education system (Australia), compared to this apparent truthful stereotype that the US' education system is horrible, and that Canada isn't much better in most things, either. In fact, I think Canada gets by on far too many things that need to be called out, because the US has become the domestic and international arsehole of the world, and Canada exploits that fact.
Working for an airline in Toronto during one of the worst snowstorms of the year my favourite question was "Why is my flight delayed? My cousin says the weather is fine in Cancun."
In the thread for "what's the most stupid thing ..." Someone in a flight asked the hostess to turn off the " machine " that was next to her window because it was very noisy . It was the engine ,she asked to have the engine turned off! Lol
An American commented on my Facebook comment on parental leave in Germany. He asked how I knew so much about it. So I explained to him I'm German and that I'm also speaking from experience, because I'm a mother of two sons. He literally called me a liar... because Facebook is American and therefore, Germans can't use it at all. He became a laughingstock on the spot
I don’t work in customer service, I’m a nurse and I used to work in the ICU about 20 years ago. We had a patient with traumatic brain injury on life support and the family wanted a meeting with us-we thought it was about taking the patient off of life support-but no, it was about about the possibility of a brain transplant. After we got over the shock, we told them that was not medically possible-at any hospital. They didn’t believe us and thought we just didn’t want to do it because they were poor, and we were placing cost over their loved one. One of the staff asked “well sir, even if we could, who would be the donor?” And the dad said “we can just put him on the list, like for a kidney?” But it was the way he said it, like “well, duh.”😳. No sir. We do not have the technology to do brain transplants.
As a fellow nurse I’m here to tell you that we work in the ultimate costumer service job! We are waiters, baby sitters, cashiers, janitors, and receptionist, and IT people.
My first job at 16 was at chuck e cheese and one day a lady brought her kid in for their birthday party. She wanted the real mouse to come out so her kid can hold it and take a picture with it. I just so happened to be the one that has to dress up in the mouse costume for the party. So I come out and was going to sit on the ground so this lady could get a picture of her kid and chuck E. She didn't understand that when someone is in the mouse costume we aren't supposed to talk, just wave and give hugs. She started yelling she wanted a real mouse for her kid. Then her kid got upset and started a temper tantrum and crying. Another kid ran up to hug me... mind you the costume head itself weighed a good 10lbs give or take. So it was hard to balance it and look out of the mouth. Well the kid that came running up to me did so in my blind spot so I wasn't bracing for impact cause those little shits are stronger than you think. So the moment he slammed into me caused me to fall down and the head goes flying off. I just laid there and watched it happen in slow motion. Soon as I look to my left back towards the kids and adults, one by one the kids eyes get really wide and their mouths dropped and the roar of the murderous sounding screams started. It was almost like i was chopping the head off puppies or something by the way the kids were screaming and crying. Then i looked up and every single adult there was just laughing hysterically at their kids staring at me traumatized. Oh and that lady was pissed there was no real mouse and I got fired for not holding the head on as I fell. I didn't care since I was planning to quit, I already had 2 other jobs and needed a break from kids. Sometimes, at night, I can still hear their screams.
@@rhettmitchell I guess she was wanting us to bring out a real mouse for her kid to hold. Lol I don't know when she repeated that for the 3rd time I just walked away from her craziness. When I came back in the mouse costume I sat next to her kid and kinda put my legs up to be held lol and put my hand over the costume mouse as if I was giggling and then I just sat there waiting for her to take a picture. Then when I stood up is when I was hit by a 8 year old linebacker. Lol
I wasn’t legally an adult I was 16 but I at 16 years old had to explain to a grown woman that she’s was not the only person in the world named Brittany. I was working at a store that sold wedding and prom dresses at the time. This woman called because she was confirming an appointment for her mother in law. When I realized that the mother in laws name was not in our system I asked the woman if the appointment had been made under another account. She said yes hers. When I asked for her name she said Brittany. I quickly discovered that we had six different accounts that had the name Brittany on them. All as the first name. When I asked her what her last name is she said Brittany. I asked if Brittany was her first name or last name just to clarify so that I could find the right account. She got angry very quickly and saying that her name was Brittany and that I shouldn’t need a last name because her name was in our system as Brittany. I literally had to explain to her that there were six accounts for six different brides all who also had the first name Brittany and that she was not the only person to be named Brittany.
Can confirm another instance of someone thinking they're the One. Worked retail, looked up one man's account by his name and needed to confirm street name, as 5 accounts showed up. He instantly became suspicious - "What do you mean you need to confirm which address, my name is MY NAME. Someone else must be using it for fraudulent purposes!" He went from pleasant chitchat to enraged rant in a heartbeat, and I had to talk him down from calling the police/FBI/whoever by telling him that in a state population of 9+ million, let alone world population of 6+ billion, it's very common for people to share a name (especially "Robert" coupled with a not uncommon last name!). I explained that I could look up my own name right now in an online phonebook, and probably 10 matches would come up in my state alone. It took him awhile to accept this.
One woman once tried to get me fired from the travel agency i worked at as I said I couldn't book her a sea view room in the hotel she wanted to stay at. She was raging and demanded a sea view room. She was staying in an inland city... 50km from the sea!!!!!
Yes, I have been to the USA and actually did leave the food on the counter and left when they tried to charge me some random tax. Learnt later that that is a thing there.
I actually think it's a westernized concept, cause I do believe all western countries(Canada, US, Britain, NZ, Aus) all doesn't include tax in the price. And as a US western I feel like that is dumb af!!!
The one about the lil old lady trying to buy the internet is the most adorable and wholesome things I heard today. Lol! How sweet of him to go so far to help her.
As a cashier in europe, we don't take people's credit/debit card when paying, they have to put it into the reader themselves. The amount of times when I had to explain to customers all ages (!) how to properly put the card into the reader was mindblowing.
This is really frustrating especially because it’s usually shown on the reader. I also loved it when they then said „oh it’s just different in every store“ after failing 5000 times even though. They proceeded to name the stores they’ve been too and I know for a fact that they have the exact same readers as we do. A few also insist that we change it every other week even though we don’t 😂
@@raymonds7492 i mean, if you don't know which side should be faceing you that's one thing, but it's just logical that the chip goes into the reader isn't it? That's what really bothered me 😂
@@annakovacs246 I don’t have problems with the chip at all. It’s the swiping, it’s like I have no save file in my brain, got start at lvl 1 every time.
The old lady who wanted to buy the Internet. Bless her heart. She wasn't stupid, just a cute old lady who couldn't keep up with technology. We'll all go there some day, some of us earlier than others.
Working on a hotel reception years ago I checked a family in, gave them the room key and a car parking permit for the road outside, and told them to place it in their window and it's valid for 7 days. (The hotel was only small and had no private parking places). That afternoon they came back complaining that they had been given a parking ticket. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what had happened only to discover that they had not put the permit in the car window. They had put it in their bedroom window!?!
Here’s my story: I work at a preschool. A child there is like, severely allergic to RED dye, and the school was having a little party with popsicles of different flavors. This grown adult who works there gives the child an ORANGE popsicle, and we had to explain to her that RED AND YELLOW MAKE ORANGE.
That's not toooook bad though. I go into work mode and don't think about obvious things sometimes. I can definitely see myself just thinking red and doing that
I'm allergic to peanuts. My assistant who was in her 50's made fudge for coworkers at Christmas. It looked like dark chocolate fudge. I took a bite and immediately spit it out. I said did you put peanut butter in the fudge? She said yes. I said didn't you remember in allergic to peanuts? She said yes, I know. I didn't use peanuts, I used peanut butter. 🤦♀️
The tax reaction is not surprising at all if the customer was a tourist. Having lived in Europe my whole life, the one time I went to Canada I was in complete shock at the fact that the price written on the menu/tag is not what I end up paying. I had to pause and process it the first time I purchased something. Even scarier is that over there they insisted to take my card away for the bill and swipe it? That made me uncomfortable because in Europe we always hold on to our cards and just tap them. But anyway, culture shock doesn’t mean someone is dumb.
@@pamelagonzalez8947 Yeah I know I found it dodgy but I was informed by someone who lives there that it's normal? They took my card to the till to swipe it instead of coming with the card machine to the table, then they brought me the card and the receipt.
I dont know about the taking your card thing unless maybe it was a very long ago because here in canada we bring the card reader to the table. I remember being uncomfortable as a Canadian when I visited the states and they took my card for payment there. In canada you keep your card.
When I moved in America I couldn't understand why they wouldn't just include the taxes in the prices of the items listed on the shelves. I learned to live with it, but I still can't form a rationale.
@Izzy Pfützenreuter it's because different states and counties have different tax requirements. Companies aren't going to figure out individually how much their products are going to be for so many locations. All different items are taxed differently (like clothes v food)So when you check out, the register does it automatically
I used to be a CNA on a labor & delivery unit, and one of the new Dads asked me when the wet nurse would be by to feed their baby. Like, he expected hospital nurses to breastfeed their newborn. I had to explain that wet nurses were used by aristocracy waaaaay back in the day, and his wife would either have to b'feed their child or we could give them formula.
How do you get all the way to having the baby without doing any research? Even if you believe you know, shouldn't you just......verify things like that??
Honestly I didn't even know that was a thing. But then again, if the person who works there tells me that that's how it is, and that it's not just ruined, I wouldn't argue with them. Like I don't want to know the legal trouble a library or bookstore could get in if they lied about that. So the fact that people think that a business would just lie to them in that way is pretty dumb.
I used to work at an ice cream shop so I have a lot of these, but my favorite was the people who'd come in and see all the candy, pints of ice cream, ice cream cakes, big tubs of ice cream, as well as a menu board with pictures of nothing but desserts and order burgers and fries. I had one guy go, "So you're telling me you can't make me a burger and fry?" Like, sir, I don't have a stove, flat top, or even meat and buns. If you don't want a milkshake or a sundae I can't help you. 🤷🏾♀️
The guy talking about the lady that wanted to fax money should have just directed her to a wire service like Western Union. I know that a lot of places that do faxing also do wire transfers so maybe in the past when she said fax, whoever was attending her just wired the money.
I'm a pharmacy tech at a large chain pharmacy/convenience store. Had a lady come up to the counter and hand me a coupon for buy one get one free store brand pain killers. I asked her if she'd like me to show her where to find the ibuprofen/acetaminophen. She said no but that she wanted to pick up two months of Percocet, highly addictive, highly regulated controlled substance. So I started asking for her info, assuming she had her pain medication ready and was just a bit confused. But no. She wanted us to give her two months worth of prescription Percocet for the price of one month. Like, WHAT?! I tried explaining that you can't just buy stuff like that over the counter, not to mention that you can't use coupons on prescriptions anyways. She just didn't get it and went off about how we should honor her coupon and be more specific, blah blah blah. Sorry ma'am, didn't know that we needed to clarify that you can't just walk up to a pharmacy and buy whatever medication you feel like. We're not drug dealers.
@@konservative-kat1787 Yeah this is wholly accurate. Tbh if that lady was high-income, she could find a doctor willing to prescribe her whatever she likes within a week, and the pharmacist would cough up the drugs without question. You're basically a more refined class of drug dealer. In any case, clarifying what medication the lady can and can't buy kind of is a reasonable part of a pharmacists job lol.
I received a call one time from a customer asking if we sold ice at our location. After I told her that we did, she followed up with "does it come pre-frozen?" That trails just behind the time a customer held up the checkout line for 30 minutes because an item scanned at 2.50 when the sign "very clearly said 2 for 5.00". After a long period of trying to explain that 2.50 per item is how 2/5.00 rings up, they threw their hands up and stormed out with nothing.
I’m 5ft and I just love it when people come up to me to get shit off the top shelves… like getting mad at me when I tell them that I literally cannot help them 🙄
I work at a department store and I'm also 5 ft. You guys don't have a way for short people to get things? Lol I think they prob assume employees have a way. We have stools or these poles with a hook on it
I had to explain to a Karen at Home Depot that paint is a slightly different color when its wet versus dry. She was all mad because when she looked in her paint can the WET PAINT wasnt the same color as the swatch, which is DRY PAINT. also another Karen who gave me a color match of dark army green and then got mad when I made her dark army green because she said the color match shouldve been black. she was either color blind or just stupid.
This, this hits close to home as I used to be an interior residential painter. Having to explain how lighting (artificial vs natural sunlight) plays a huge role too. I stopped years ago, could not deal with increasing stupidity.
I had a customer who had to dry the colour himself with our dryer because he thought I was scamming him. I also had a woman ask for a green with no blue in it 🤦 I was like "so ...yellow?". Another customer wanted paint with polka dots in it.
Tale of Despereaux was the first book I ever had with rough edges. I though it was printed wrong, but my mom told me it was supposed to look like a mouse nibbled the pages. I though that was such a cool idea for books! 😂
I used to work for a personal banking services, I had to explain to a grown person that if they deposit cash, then use their card to buy stuff that means that the cash was used The person was insisting that someone stole from her, even tho she recognized every single charge and that she did them personally, she still though that all her total cash deposited should still be there
2:55 I can totally understand this customer. In Germany (and I bet in other countries as well) the price already includes the taxes, which is honestly very logical in my opinion. Idk how many times I wanted to order something from the US, because the prices were so low, until I went to the check out and got hit with the taxes... I'll never understand the logic behind this, but maybe someone can explain this to me. *I just read it's because the amount of taxes differentiates depending on the products, but it's the same here, too. So nope, that's not a good explanation, why.
Sales tax in the USA is not federal revenue and so has no central control. It's levied by states, counties and cities on an individual basis. Therefore it was simpler to list a base price and retailers would then add the appropriate taxes for their location. Whilst nowadays that could easily be controlled by computer pricing systems you would need to educate an entire country about the change - who would be first? And imagine the arguments with customers; "It was cheaper yesterday - why did you put the price up!" Changing it is possible but is it worth the disruption?
Because if you calculate the taxes prior to the sales, you'll end up paying more in the long run... and we're sticklers about being taxed. (Hello... tea party?) My current job requires me to make multiple purchases each day. I input the receipts. Our program calculates taxes based on each item whereas the store I purchase from calculates taxes after the subtotal. No joke. While my subtotal always comes out correct, if taxes aren't also spot on (meaning the estimated tax calculated per-item equals what we actually paid), we end up being under charged 1 to 2 cents per transaction for taxes. Very *VERY* rarely is it ever over charged by 1 (and never 2). On average after all is said and done, we usually save 5 cents on taxes per day at the minimum. That's $18 a year just at our store. There's about 570 stores in the US. If I were to use my very middle of the road tax percentage and pretend all of them use the same, that's over $10k in taxes we saved all because taxes are calculated after the subtotal. So.... yes... the amount of taxes differentiates depending on the products and those taxes are calculated after all purchases are subtotaled... not before... because taxation without representation is theft.
The tax thing shocked me too when I was in the UK as a student. We went to Domino's cause they had this offer of free buffet food for 4 £, so we went in,: Then when we finished lunch the bill price rised to 8 £, and we had to ask the waiter, we were not rude or anything, but we were not happy either, and it seems it was not the first time so he explained that the rise comprised the taxes and the waiter service, ( it was free buffet but servers would tell us to let them know if we needed extra drinks to fill for us etc) From then and on we would ask about the final price before deciding to enter a place or not. The last guy helping out the old lady who came to buy the Internet was the sweetest for taking the time to explain everything to her. kudos!
@@Phoenix-np1iu But the thing is that the price on the publicity or menu etc was not the final price, so they kind of do same as the US in that sense. And since servers taxes and all are already included they should put the actual price ,if the final price at Domino's was 8£ they should have put that price from the beginning. In Spain the price you are proposed is exactly what you pay. We don't get any surprises here.

My parents would always confuse these two stores when we got our first cat. We got the cat from PetSmart, but most of the supplies from Petco, and the two stores were in the same general mall, so you can imagine where the confusion came from.
I used to work at Petsmart and that mistake would happen all of the time, but one time a customer came into the store when our grooming department was closed (because we were short staffed and it was late)And it turns out they made an appointment for the dog at a Petsmart all the way in Texas which is definitely more than 100 or so miles away

Ok, about the killing lobsters thing. I don't know if the lady in the video understood this, or if the person who told that to her understood it or what, but lobsters are literally boiled alive. So I don't really blame them for not wanting to eat lobster.
That's why you place them in an ice slurry first, though. It induces a coma-like state. They're still being boiled to death, but at least ice slurries are a thing, as well as a means for refrigeration. Edit: meat stunning is also a thing. Although not done in situations of mass capture like in the seafood industry, this form allows for instant death that renders the animal unconscious and unable to feel any pain.
Worked at a furniture/appliance rental store once. I never thought I would I would have to explain, to an adult, that they do not own whatever they are renting. Worked at a bank and a lady came in absolutely pissed off because her account was frozen because there’s no money in it and it was in a negative status. Well she didn’t understand how that happened because she still had checks she could write. She thought the amount of checks in her book was the amount of money in her account. I had to explain to her that you can buy checks by the 500 count and that in no way guarantee that there was money in your account to use them with.

I used to wear a name tag at my job and my name is LeAnne. You wouldn’t believe the amount of adults who asked me how you pronounce my name, a few of them thought it was pronounced Lean-y which is strange because I’ve never heard of that name before and Le and Anne are both pretty straight forward common easy to pronounce names so I don’t get why the concept of blending those names was so mind blowing to these customers. I’ve never had a probably with anyone saying my name before, only at that job lol
My kid's got a similar 2-straight forward names put as one (just using the spelling of those names I preferred - like using 'lynne' instead of 'lyn'). At a checkup, one nurse drifted the 'e' from the first part of her name and put it with the second part. He read 'elynne' as ellen. I honestly wasn't upset because it sounded just as cute... and I could see how he saw it that way. My assumption for yours though, people put a mental break in the wrong spot. Lean/ne. For that, you can blame a person having been taught 'what' to read instead of 'how' to read.
I work as a door host at Walmart and part of our job is helping set up elderly and disabled customers with a electric cart well sometimes we don't have any available and people would have to wait till someone else is done with the cart I never thought I would have to explain that I can't tell another person to get off the riding cart so the customer that just came in could use it
I worked at a customer service for a revolving credit card. So you get for example 1000 euros on this card, you spend some or all of it and then each month you can pay small amounts until you pay it off. Easy to understand, no? Well, it was not easy for our clients because they would spend it all and then pay 30 euros the next month and then regularly call us to see why they don't have the 1000 thousand again. ???????????????????? 🦊🦁🐯🐺 I can't even...
Everything is legit until 9:17. It is very normal to be helpful to costumers so they get less small change. You get used to the calculations after a while.
It's really fucking annoying. Because I just want to get through my line and I have to dig out my phone to double check that the calculations I made in my head were right? Because the customer would certainly raise hell if I got it wrong. And I just so many customers in a day that I basically forget what the price was right after I told you. So I'm going to have to take back the receipt. It's so fucking annoying. If you want to use up coins, tell me to wait while you dig them out or don't give me the cash until you dig them out. If you hand me the money and I've already processed the transaction and then you are like "oh wait, I have change". I'm going to be really freaking annoyed. And I won't do it if the register is already closed.
I agree, however, these days if you open the window to the small change stuff, you never know if you're inviting a change scammer to start their ploy. "oh, I also need this bill broken, can you do that too?" Nope. Once you give me what you intend to pay me with - that is the extent of the transaction. Besides, with the scenario she posted, you wouldn't even be helping yourself out. Giving her 20.50 for 17.67 is just going to give you 2.83 back (vs 2.33 without the .50) so that .50 you "found" would still go right back to you.

The one that didn't want to pay tax. I could see her confusion. I had a similar, but more chill experience with a similar customer. Many countries already have the tax included or there's no taxes. So she was confused of why we were charging her more than the price that was listed. I mean... If you move to another country you should do research on the country first....
"Do your research"?? You suggest we research on EVERY normal detail? The labels state the price: that's the price! You mean that I should research whether the bus really goes to that destination they write on the bus? Or the nametag "Laura" on that lady is not her name at all, why would you think it is?
@@neliaferreira9983 HEY. "Laura" *IS* on my name tag... I can tell you there are plenty of people who don't think that really is my name by the way they call me "sir" despite very much NOT being a 'sir.'
When I was 17ish, I worked in a fast food place and we had a manager visiting from another store. Well, it was just her and I closing and we were chatting about personal stuff and she said she felt pregnant and was late but couldn't possibly actually be pregnant because the . . . er. . . activities. . . she and her bf engaged in should NOT result in pregnancy. Well, I had to ask some rather invasive questions to sus out the truth, but ended up explaining that if you engaged in regular old sex at any point without protection there IS a chance you could get pregnant, regardless of the presence or absence of certain . . . culminative events. Anyway, she ended up testing in the bathroom at work and was, indeed, pregnant.
1. A friend I had didn’t know Dungeons and Dragons was a real concept... just thought it was a made up game for shows. 2. I had a guest that stated her coffee was too filled that she wanted room to put milk in & asked what should she do as to remove the coffee, I told her to drink the coffee.. to make room..
I was in university before found out Cadets was a real thing. I thought it had been invented for Star Trek. It sounded odd when someone I met said they had been a cadet.
10:40 **snort** I'm embarrassed to admit I've done something similar before lmao. One day, my friend and I were in a store called Poundland, which is basically the British version of stores like Dollar Tree in the US. Somehow, I had never been in a Poundland before despite living in Scotland my whole life (I think our town must not have had one at the time?) We were looking at things to buy, I picked something up and turned to my friend and asked "How much is this? There's no prices anywhere." She stared at me for a second, then said slowly, "Beeba . . . we're in POUNDland. It's £1." Cue facepalm moment 😂😂😂
A girl came in wanting a replacement or a refund for a personalised (delicate by nature) glass Christmas bauble that broke AFTER she took it. Apparently it broke in her car because she didn't handle it with care because she thought the cardboard box that held it would completely prevent it from shattering. This was a day or 2 after she purchased it, we no longer had the exact style of bauble as it was Christmas Eve and that was the last day we'd be open until November the next year. She couldn't understand that if your (very fragile, delicate) purchase gets damaged after you take it away, its on you and the company owes you nothing.
To be fair, some things aren't the same outside the US. In every country I've ever visited, tax is baked in. Other point: here in Brazil, you really could cash in cheques in any bank you'd like back in the day (although that's so old school we've retired them).
Interesting! To me it sounded like the check was fake and he was trying to scam the bank. Most US banks will only cash a check if you have a bank account or if the check originated from their bank (and verify that it’s real).
About 5 years ago I worked at a convenient store that sold its own self serve coffee and we did “Happy Hour” where coffee was sold half price from 5pm to 7pm with numerous signs around the coffee area saying that. Well this lady came in at like noon and started complaining because her coffee was full price and the sign says it’s half price. It took me, another coworker and of course the manager to explain to her what the sign said before she finally gave up and accepted it.
I used to work at a gym and had to explain to someone that the charges would happen every month. She had joined and canceled several times, because she'd sign up and pay for her first month, then her payments would decline, so we'd have to contact her to collect her past due payments. Every time, she was confused: "but I already paid!" yes, ma'am, you paid for your first month, but you also have to pay for every month after that if you'd like to keep coming to our gym! Mind you, because she was a repeat offender, when she would come back to re-enroll, we would always make sure to go eeeexxxxttttrrrraaaaaa slow with her, explaining the charges multiple times, and she'd insist she understood 🙄 Honestly, I think this lady might have had a mental disability or something.... Like does she not pay rent? Or Netflix charges? How is that so confusing 🤣
In retail you have to be really careful whenever you're taking money. A lot of people want to trip you up. Never ever, take money from someone unless they are handing you the exact change. 50 cents on 67 cents. Don't bother. No. People like to nickel and dime people easy way for them to make money. Don't screw up. This isn't your money. I always kept a nice receipt calculator at all my registers. Especially if someone was trying to play Mastermind and trip someone up and make them give them the wrong change. Don't do it don't do it. But another thing. Everyone should be taught how to count back change. I would practice with all of my employees whenever I would first hire them. It's an expectation. It's not that hard. A good manager would help you with that. And always make sure you have a backup tool so that you never trip up. I like perfect pills and I will give you the skills to keep one.
