The Jockey Club usually frowns on naming horses after people who are alive and kicking, so I have to assume those fuddy-duddies at the JC never heard of ol' Rey so the name was accepted.
The Greyhound called "Scurlough Champ" did this almost every start - and usually broke the track record! Coming from tailed off last. A uniquely brilliant greyhound. Have a look at his remarkable races on RU-vid.
Ned Lambton totally correct and i am forever trying to explain this to ppl and punters. It is amazing how few ppl realise this. They finally believe when i can find some split times to back my case.
That Yogiism applies especially to turf racing. With a race on grass, it's not uncommon for a horse well off the lead to make up enormous amounts of ground over the last furlong or two, and sometimes in as short a space as the last 100-150 yards.
I think the best I've ever seen in Aldaniti and Champion winning the Grand National....the real footage, not the movie version. That little horse held off a last minute challenge with some much in the way of guts....true "champions", both horse and jockey.
If you type in Kauto Star King George VI Chase 2009. When Kauto is passing the finnish line the others are still jumping the last fence! And Frankel is a flat racer, never been beat and is up against the best!! Amazing!!!
Had to laugh when I read your comment as I read some comments up the page where they were saying the jockey made no attempt to win, was just sitting still on the horse and throttled the horse back to intentionally lose, the race was FIXED! :-D And that rider was beating the tar out of the horse right-handed the whole time. I guess people just see what they want to see.
Right, because when they jumped the last he sat completely still on it like a statue and wasn't in any way whipping it or trying to make run to the line, was he?
He looked like he was riding it but he wasn't. If you can get hold of the in running you would see that the horse in front was never going to win. If you watch flat racing today the winner uses his whip less than those around him, the whip seems to slow them down. Every race is fixed if you can read the exchanges you would see it, as soon as the gates open the price of your horse goes up that's it you lose.
The race wasn't fixed. This is typical British/European race riding. You don't see it in the States. In Europe and the UK it is normal for the horses to be placed in position at the start and then hold that position until the last furlong when they suddenly cut the horses loose and a cavalry stampede ensues. THEN you see whose horse has something in reserve and whose is winded and out of gas. The horse that was leading most of the way was clearly out of gas at the end. Watch closely and you will see that the rider of that horse is actually whipping the daylights out of the horse right-handed. But the horse was shortening stride and obviously had nothing left to give. The rider of the horse that actually won did have something left, that horse lengthened stride and picked up the pace nicely and won the race. This race was NOT "fixed". Just a few strides before the finish line the rider of the losing horse knew he wasn't going to win and stopped beating his horse. No point in doing so. It was an honestly run race, the fresher horse winning it.
the second jockey was hopeless after the last if he had sat still he would have won ,same as pitman on crisp, when you have a tired horse you keep balanced
5 years later....Paul Blagg. He had a few winners between the flags, all in the South east area, culminating at the finals meeting at Folkestone, as seen here. He'd always come back bright red looking like a side of beef. If I remember rightly, he was also a motor cycle police officer. Fit as a butchers dog but an awful race riding style.
@@audreyhep2010 watch it again, watch the jockey pull up, one hand only, but slows the horse, what do you suggest my friend? the old dug racing chocolate biscuit before the race? The sport is corrupt at times, unfortunate as that is. Peace bro ✌️
Betfair was set up to fleece the punter learn how to read the exchanges and you will see that horse racing is choreographed. A horse will be backed in from 10/1 into 2/1 favourite a gamble the horse will finish second or third nine times out of ten. If you don't believe me that's fine but learn to read the exchanges and you will see it for yourself they are good at what they do i'm not gaining nothing from telling you this and why would i lie all i can tell you is what can be seen every race is fixed.
Yes - agreed perhaps except for the very big races where is win at all costs. What do you think? Have you seen the program :The Secret Life of Lester Piggott" It is on You Tube although the quality is not great - the story supports your theory about corruption though...but of a slightly different kind
Mrjzielke... you having got a clue what your talking about with your swab testing and all that..he was still on the bridle approching the second last and then just out stayed the runner up.. learn abit about racing before you talk c rap
who would bet on that type of horse race? all the jockeys fall off anyway and the horses gets a leg injury and gets put down.... stupid ass horse race style!
Moreover, if the sport is banned, what are we going to do with 14,000 thoroughbreds. The owners won’t be able to afford them and nobody will want to buy them.
Absolutely. It would be much better for all concerned if none of them were ever born, even if most of them do lead lives of luxury doing something they enjoy doing. Bugger the lot of them.
what was the point of showing that race??? it was nothing special,i've seen hundreds of far more dramatic finishes or horses much further clear and getting caught!!!
Not everyone is familiar with how races are run. You are. I am. They aren't. That makes a difference in the impact on how "they" view the finish. To be honest, you don't see finishes like this much in the States. This is a very UK/Euro finish. We do see come-from-behind horses but not as often or as dramatic as you see in this video. In the US you are more apt to see a horse break away from a pack and take off at the end leaving the others behind, but not this Euro/UK style of a cavalry charge the last furlong where the tiring front runners are swallowed up and passed by fresher horses behind them.
I think we must have been watching a different race than I'm afraid and I'll copy and paste a comment I made earlier in the tread. "Right, because when they jumped the last he sat completely still on it like a statue and wasn't in any way whipping it or trying to make run to the line, was he?"
Forget about the horse in front watch how many times he whips the winner a couple of slaps then he pushes the horse out to the line. The leading horse is whipped at least 8 times like i say watch horse racing and see how they use the whip.
