According to jewish tradition of that time when a married woman is widowed the sons care for her. We know Jesus had no biological siblings because when He hung on the cross He instructed Apostle John to take care of His mother and he did.

Who was John? In John 19:25, Jesus' mother is identified as having a sister. Is there a way of knowing who she is? Wouldn't John, have known this. After all, he was charged by Jesus to look after his own mother after he died and ascended to heaven. Surely, if he didn't know her already, he would have at least met her, because of the relationship Jesus would have had with her as his aunt. If we compare all of the crucifixion passages where the women who stood in front of the cross are discussed, we find the following: John Matthew Mark Mary, the mother of Jesus Mary, the wife of Mary the mother of James and Joseph Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses Clopas Mary Magdalene Mary Magdalene Mary Magdalene Mary's sister the mother of the sons of Zebedee Salome Only John mentions Mary, the mother of Jesus. All 3 gospels mention Mary Magdalene. Both Matthew and Mark mention that a certain James and Joseph had a mother who was called Mary. John doesn't say this, but he does mention a certain Mary who was married to a man named Clopas. Now if you look at the identity of these two named sons of the Mary, we discover that they are also named as being the sons of Alphaeus in Luke 20, Acts 1, and Mark 3. Now in John, it seems that the man in the above video attributed the identity of Mary, the wife of Clopas (James and Joseph (Joses) as being the sister of Mary, the mother of Jesus. However, I would argue that that is incorrect, but that they are actually two different women. I believe that you will see why below. You see, there is another woman who is also mentioned, and she is Salome, the mother of the sons of Zebedee. I would argue that she is the sister of Mary and Jesus' aunt, thereby making her sons, James and John, his cousins. If you're not convinced about the matter, there is more to say about the matter. In Acts 1:12-14, when the disciples returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives to the upper room to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit, the baptism of the Holy Spirit which they would have on Pentecost Sunday, Luke provides a list of who was present in that consecrated time of prayer. Present in that upper room were the 11 remaining apostles (Judas Iscariot had hung himself), who were all named, and among them were the 3 alleged "cousins" of Jesus: James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James, who is also known as Thaddaeus in the Matthew and Mark accounts of the choosing of the 12 apostles of Jesus. So if you add Joseph to the list, you have all four of Jesus' "cousins". Three of them were designated as apostles. Now, what is interesting to note is that in that list of people present in the upper room, Mary the mother of Jesus, and his "brothers" are also mentioned. The question that is automatically raised is who were these brothers (or cousins) of Jesus if the 3 named apostles are the aforementioned "cousins" of Jesus mentioned in Mark 6:3-4? The only conclusion that you can come to is that the 3 named apostles including Joseph, though they happen to have been given the same names, since they were all very common names at the time, are not the same people that are mentioned as being the brothers of Jesus in Mark 6:3-4 and also in Matthew 13:55-56. It stands to reason that they were not the same people because John, the apostle, in John 7:5 stated that his brothers at this moment in time didn't believe in Jesus. They didn't begin to believe in him until after the resurrection when he personally revealed himself to James, whom Paul describes as the Lord's brother in Galatians 1:19, and probably to the rest of them as well - see 1 Corinthians 15:6-7. Whereas the 3 men who had the same names, and who had become apostles of Jesus, obviously did believe in him when they started to follow him. Why did Jesus choose him to look after his own mother? Why didn’t he let things run their natural course, namely according to cultural expectations that the next oldest brother would be the one who would be responsible for looking after his own widowed mother once she was left on her own due to her oldest son’s death? It stands to reason that Jesus chose John, the disciple whom Jesus loved to look after his own mother other than the next unbelieving brother in line, James. John, who had reclined against Jesus' chest at the Last Supper, and who was his cousin was the one who had the closest relationship with Jesus of all of the apostles. So, is there any other reason other than the one I have just raised, as to why Jesus would make such a dismissive comment regarding his brothers in the following passage of Scripture, other than the most natural one, namely that they did not believe he was the Messiah, and consequentially they were not doing his Father’s will and follow him? Jesus, however, knew that he could really count on John to look after her because of his close relationship with him. While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. 47 [Someone said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak to You.”] 48 But [Jesus replied to the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?” 49 And extending His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold: My mother and My brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother, and sister, and mother.” (Matthew 12:46-50)

May I ask any protestants in this post, which one or combination do you believe about The Blessed Mother? Ebionism: Joseph was the physical father of Christ. Jesus was just a holy man. Helvidianism: Mary was a virgin but after Christ her and Joseph had relations. Valentinianism: The Holy Spirit deposited Jesus body and soul into Mary's body without her contributing to Christ. Just a vessel, just a surrogate. Nestorianism: Jesus is two persons and Mary is only mother of the human Jesus.

Also, can't believe you didn't mention the most important part of John's account of the Crucifixtion! John 19:27! "Behold your mother." John took Mary into his home after Jesus died. Why would Mary need someone to take her in if she had other children to look after her? *Because she had no other children besides Jesus.* Jewish tradition backs this up; you were seen as a very bad child if you did not take your own mother in like this. This is why Jesus commissioned John to "adopt" Mary, to care for his mother in His stead when He could no longer. Beautiful is it not?

I know it may be very rude to say about this. The New Testament says Jesus had about five or six siblings. If so were they actual siblings of Jesus Christ or were they followers. I love Pints with Aquinas, but I've always been puzzled by the concept of Mary's perpetual virginity. I've also wondered whether Joseph celibate as well? If so, it suggests Mary and Joseph didn't have a normal marriage. What possible reason would Mary and Joseph have from conjugal relations within the marriage relationship? I guess the principle of 1 Corinthians 7:5 wouldn't have applied to them? Doesn't Jesus differentiate between his biological brothers and spiritual brothers in Matthew 12? Why didn't the gospel accounts use the Greek word anepsios for "cousins" to describe James and Jesus' other brothers in Matthew 13? Is there a chance the perpetual virginity association with Mary is rooted in gnostic influence?

St. Joseph was a righteous Jew. See how they treated the Ark of old. You really think he would have the least thought of touching Mary in that way after God had made her womb his own living Ark? If you carefully read Mathew's account, this was the very reason he wanted to quietly divorce Mary. Not because he thought she cheated, but because "she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit." That last part is crucial! Joseph knew exactly how it was that Mary was pregnant. He realized something divine was happening with her and, just like David was terrified to approach the Ark of Old, Joseph wanted to get away completely from Our Lady. That's why the angel had to tell him he need not fear, that he was part of the plan, too! The protector of both Mary and her son. If you read about the Ark in the Old Testament, you'll realize that no devout Jew would've dared approach Mary for sex after the incarnation. Just like YOU wouldn't have sex with your wife inside a church or something, so no Jew would've touched a dwelling place of God, overshadowed by God himself for himself. This is how she would've appeared to any good Jew who knew what was happening in her, and Joseph wasn't just a run of the mill "good Jew" but a man distinguished by scripture as just/righteous/saintly.

What about Mary "not knowing Joseph until she gave birth to Jesus", implying she "knew" him afterward; and "you Catholics were supposed to say that sex was holy and good and so if you're so hung up on her being a virgin then it seems like you're implying that there's something wrong with sex"?

I need some follow up on the connection of "sisters' and the book of Numbers and how they were instructed to take the census. I went back and skimmed over the first six chapters of numbers and the census was only taken of males. "who registered themselves by clans, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names from twenty years old and upward, head by head," Numbers 1:18 The census report for every tribe ended like this "every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war:' It seems the two men in the video are trying to imply that being in the same "household" doesn't mean that they live in then same actual house but are just part of the same tribal group?? The problem with this is the Greek word for "house" oikia doesn't have any relation to "Tribe". Here is the definition according to Strong's Greek Lexicon: 1. a house 2. an inhabited edifice, a dwelling 3. the inmates of a house, the family 4. property, wealth, goods Jesus was literally saying saying that He has been rejected by His hometown, His Relatives (including cousins, uncles and such) and people in His own household (immediate family). We see this played out in John 7:5 " For not even his brothers believed in him.".

Brother brethren Greek adelphos Brothers plural adelphoi Cousin anepsios While true in the Bible they could of used cousin anepsios, that would only apply if all were cousins to Jesus, on the other hand adelphoi, adelphos could of been used to include brother, friend, cousin, co workers much like we use it today at church too. Sorry buddy I forgot where I took my notes from. Another great argument, ask them to show you from scripture where it says Mary had other children, just one verse that she was pregnant. Zero nada Matthew 2:11-19 when they run to Egypt nothing, when they return from Egypt to Israel nothing, When Jesus gets lost in the temple you see the holy family at age 12 and you still don’t read about any brothers. The treatment of Mark 6:4-6 is very poor. They totally ignore the context of the verses which follow right after, when Jesus says "among his relatives and IN HIS OWN HOME." So even if "relatives" means "other relatives that weren't siblings," that doesn't change the fact that the text clearly distinguishes between "relatives" and "those in his own home." "Those in His own home" is clearly a description of those who are most closely related to Him, even living in His own home as DISTINCT FROM "relatives."

The answer is simple and straight forward. Jesus is the son of God. The only brothers he had were those called to his sacrifice. Paul the Apostle for instance had a Christian conversion. He became a son of God therefor a brother if you want to put it that way. We are all sinless when called to complete conversion. I'm under the impression that death impresses our God. We become saints at that instant if we fufill our past grievances. Simply because it's sad to die and God knows this quite extensively. Mary, hm, I really do believe she was a mortal woman if you want to put it that way. Even scripture says he refuted his 'mother and brothers'. I think the truest doctrine would be to negate the idea that Mary had something to do with salvation. It's more humble to say she needed God's saving grace. Which is certain. Mary was not born a saint. King David for instance killed his best friend for Bathsheba. Our greatest bet is that God is the only "person" worthy enough to be our savior.

The clearest verses that Jesus is the only son of the blesssd virgin: Matthew 13:53-57 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, and coming to his country he taught them in their synagogue, so that astonished, and said. Where did this man get his wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brethren JAMES and JOSEPH and SIMON and JUDAS? Matthew 27:55-56 There were also many women there, looking on from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him,among whom were Mary magdalene, and MARY the mother of JAMES and JOSEPH, and the mother of the sons of Zeb’edee. Matthew 27:59-61 And Joseph took the body,and wrapped it in a clean linen shroud, and laid in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock; and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed. Mary Magdalene and the OTHER MARY were there, sitting opposite the sepulchre. In my Orthodox Study Bible the commentary states: Matthew 27:56 Mary the mother of James and Joses: Most Fathers teach this was the Virgin Mary, being in fact the stepmother of James and Joses (see 13:55; compare Mk 15:40, 47). Theophylact summarizes the teaching of the Fathers in this way: "James and Joses were sons of Joseph by his first wife. And since the Theotokos was called the 'wife' of Joseph, she is rightly called the 'mother' of his children, meaning 'stepmother'. " Matthew 12:46-50 Christ's relatives have not yet understood His identity and mission. He points to a spiritual family based on obedience to the will of My Father (v. 50). In Jewish usage, brother can indicate any number of relations. Abram called his nephew Lot "brother" (Gn 14:14); Boaz spoke of his cousin Elimelech as his "brother" (Ru 4:3); and Joab called his cousin Amasa "brother" (2Kg 20:9). Christ Himself had no blood brothers, for Mary had but one Son: Jesus. The brothers mentioned here were either stepbrothers, sons of Joseph by a previous marriage, or cousins. Indeed, Jesus commits His mother to the care of John at the Cross (Jn 19:25-27), which would have been unthinkable if Mary had had other children to care for her. Luke 24:10 Certain Fathers teach that Mary the mother of James was the wife of Alphaeus, and this James was one of the Twelve (6:15). Most, however, hold that this is the Virgin Mary, being in fact the stepmother of a different James, "the Lord's brother" (see Mt 13:55; compare Mk 15:40, 47). The Virgin Mary appears in certain icons of Myrrhbearing Women, and in a hymn by St. John of Damascus, we sing, "The angel cried to the lady full of grace, 'Rejoice, O pure Virgin: your Son is risen for from His three days in the tomb.' " John 19:25-27 We see here several important truths concerning Christ's mother: (1) In calling Mary "Woman" (v. 26), Jesus is using a term of dignity and affection. Contrary to certain modern usages, this is a sacred title in Scripture, an address conveying deep respect and distinction (2:4; 4:21; 8:10; 20:13; compare to Gn 2:23). (2) In saying to John, "Behold your mother!" (v. 27), our Lord symbolically establishes Mary's role as mother of all faithful disciples in every generation. (3) If Mary had other children, Jesus would not have placed her in the care of John, for her own children would have cared for her. Thus the apostolic teaching that Mary remained ever-virgin is confirmed by His action. (4) Christ also demonstrates we must "even to our last breath show every care for our parents" (JohnChr). That was a lot to type. I'm curious, does anyone know which Fathers they're referencing in regards to the belief that the Virgin Mary was stepmother to Joseph's children? The Greek word ADELFOI/ADELPHOI means brotherly love or ADELFAI/ADELPHAI means sisterly love... yes, indeed, the Greek word used does not necessarily mean BIOLOGICAL Brothers or Sisters (Blood-Related)... Why did the writer choose this Greek Word? I firmly believe that the Gospel writers knew that Christ Jesus was not the Biological Son of Blessed Mary and St. Joseph... HOW?... even St. Paul knew and revealed to the Hebrews (Hebrews 10:5) that the "PREPARED BODY" (Human Body/flesh) of Christ Jesus was Solely created/made by His Father God, which makes Blessed Mary, a modern-day terminology called "SURROGATE MOTHERHOOD."... "Bressed is the WOMB that bore the Son of God... (ref. Luke 11:27). Take note: The Scripture did not say Blessed is the PERSON who bore the Son of God... which means, that even if Blessed Mary turned down the TASK offered to her, God could still make another "HA ALMAH" and continue God's plan for nothing is impossible with God... Prophet John the Baptist claimed that God could make DESCENDANTS of Abraham out of the STONE/ROCK. Christ Jesus has the sole IMAGE and LIKENESS of God... complete 46 Chromosomes (complete DNA) that come solely from God, just like when God created ADAM (1st Man) from the dust... Blessed Mary and St. Joseph had their own biological children who were logically not "BLOOD-RELATED" to Christ Jesus... that was why the Greek word ADELFOI (brotherly love) was used... In conclusion, therefore, in reality, Christ Jesus does not have TRUE Biological (Blood-Related) Brothers or Sisters, not even Cousins, or Uncles/Aunties... however, Blessed Mary and St. Joseph had children of their own who were not blood-related to Christ Jesus but HE loved them as well ... In the real sense, Christ Jesus is the adopted SON of Joseph and Mary... for HE is God by/in Nature... Praise be to God in Christ Jesus... Amen and Amen...

What was discussed in the above video is disingenuous and misleading. Yes, the word adelphos was often used to describe relative, but there was a word that specifically meant cousin in Greek, and Paul used it in Colossians 4:10 when he referred to "Barnabas' cousin, Mark," and the word that Paul used there is anepsios. Why didn't Mark use anepsioi if he really meant to say that they were cousins? Secondly, in Mark 6:4 Jesus cited a proverb about a prophet being rejected by his own people, which you can understandably see happening, for you are too familiar to everyone who has known you and seen you grow up since you were a baby. They pigeonholed Jesus. We know who he is and we know who everyone in his own family is as well. How could he possibly behave and speak in the way he has done. "Isn't he the carpenter?" So Jesus responded by using 3 different relational identifications: patridi = hometown, then the one that was discussed in the above video: syngeneusin = relatives, and and the third " and in the oikia = "in the household of him" - i.e the literal translation of the Greek: kai en tē oikia autou. The three relationships appear to be narrowing in intimacy, from the more general to the closest - i.e. from the community to the extended family, and lastly to the immediate family. Like I said, everyone knew him in Nazareth. It was a small community. The wider community took offense at him, and so did his relatives, and his own "household" or family. Now as far as Jesus' relatives are concerned, in John 19:25 we read the following: "Now beside the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene." From this verse, we clearly see that Mary had a sister. Moreover, Joseph came from the same community. We know nothing about his family. He died but did he have any brothers and sisters, who were still alive? Did they have children of their own? In all likelihood, he did and there were. All of these would have been considered as extended "family" members, distinct from the following relationships. First of all, "household" cannot possibly mean "census of the people of Israel". Jesus was talking about Nazareth and not Israel. He was talking about his own oikia - household - i.e. immediate family. This is pure and utter isegesis - reading into the text one's own ideas because they are contextually not found in the passage. Now concerning "household", Joseph had died, so Jesus took over and became the carpenter. If he were the only son, then it would be that his own mother, as his "household" "didn't give him honour". This seems highly unlikely. However, in John 7:5, we read the following: "For not even His brothers believed in Him." The text says adelphoi, which normally means brothers. If John did mean to say: brothers, then you can clearly see why Jesus' own household or family would have not given him honour, for at this stage they did not believe in him. Therefore, I would argue that when Jesus used the proverb to discuss what had been going on in his hometown, when he mentioned that his own household didn't give him honour, he did not mean his own mother but his own adelphoi - brothers (and sisters). Moreover, in Matthew 1:25: the following words are mentioned: "but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son;" - ἕως οὗ (heōs hou) = until, till (the time when)... which clearly denotes the meaning that after she had given birth to Jesus, Joseph consummated his marriage and had 4 sons and some daughters. Also, Luke 2:7 confirms this meaning. The following words were mentioned by Luke about the birth of Jesus: "And she gave birth to her firstborn son;..." Jesus is described as being Mary's prototokon = firstborn or eldest son - first in time son and not first/preeminent, which is used to mean that in Colossians 1:15, where Jesus is clearly not the first son, created by the Father, as the Jehova's witnesses say he is, but the preeminent one - i.e. the firstborn (preeminent) among many adelphoi brothers (Romans 8:29). I mean, in which way would Jesus be Mary's preeminent son? Are all believers of Jesus, who are children of God, her children too? This is preposterous and blasphemy. This, therefore, can only mean that she had other sons who were born after him - 4 of them to be precise.

You're trying to hard to win the argument of perpetual virginity instead of seeing the truth. Christ is of the lineage of David through Joseph. It they werent fully married (marriage isnt consumated) it becomes problematic. 2. Perpetual virginity and veneration of Mary wouldve been included in the epistles if it was such an important tenet of the christian dogma. The letters were written to churches all over, its not coincidence theres silence on it. 3. Christ gave Mary to John at the cross because his brothers were not believers. He clearly stated those that were his siblings were those that did the will of his father etc. do you really think a best friend relation naturally trumps a step brother youve lived with your entire life...obviousliy not. It was a matter of faith, its always going to be a matter of faith with Christ. Remember that story about Christs family seeking him???

In the KJV, the word used is "brethren" - as in a group of men/women belonging to the same group. Other passages that address the "group" of Jesus' followers also use "brethren". Again, no confusion. To contrast, if you look at Cain and Abel's passages, "brothers" is used in the correct context. Because Cain and Abel were actual siblings. I think that's an easy way, if not the easiest, to stop this nonsense that Mary had more children.

According to Strongs Greek Lexicon the word syngenēs which the Greek word translated as relatives in Mark 6:4 has two meanings: 1. of the same kin, akin to, related by blood 2. in a wider sense, of the same nation, a fellow countryman Mr. Albrecht and Fr. Kappas are really stretching the meaning of the word to exclude half brothers and sisters in order to fit their narrative. The last time I checked half siblings were "of the same kin, akin to, related by blood". I'm not saying that syngenēs can't mean cousins. Obviously, cousins are blood relatives as well. However, I just don't see anyway that excludes half'-siblings, which is the claim in this video. This is why pretty much all Bible translators use the word "relatives" or "family" or "kinsmen" in Mark 6:4. Because that is what it means. Those are broad terms that include a lot of different relationships. If I'm sitting at a large table in a restaurant with my parents, siblings, in-laws, and cousins and someone I know walks up to me that I know, I'm probably going to greet him/her and turn around and say "This is my family". If I spoke 1st century Greek I would say this is my syngenēs.

SITTING OPPOSITE THE TOMB Summing the passages, This shows that there may be at least 2 Mary(s) who are Jesus relatives and had sons: Cross reference this with the passage below SEE HOW THE BIBLE DO MENTION JESUS' MOTHER John 19:25..*..But standing the cross of Jesus were: His MOTHER, and MARY THE WIFE OF CLEOPAS (VIRGIN MARY'S sister,), and MARY MAG'DALENE We see that at least three of the brethren mentioned in Matthew 13, OR MARK 6:3 were definitely not siblings of Jesus (although they're called Siblings) but they were Jesus' cousins--sons of their mother's sister. because them Virgin Mary is already with the Disciples ahome. The Bible is simply silent on the exact relationship between Jesus and the other two men, Simon and Jude, mentioned in Matthew 13. This proves two important things. First, it proves that the Greek word for brethren is sometimes used to mean something other than sibling, and it proves that Matthew 13:55-56 in no way demonstrates that Mary had other children. Matt 13:55...*..Is His mother not Mary?, And are not his brethren JAMES AND JOSEPH and Simon Judas* the word brethren includes kinsmen, relatives, Extended family, society, people with same faith etc that's why in court, or bank they will ask you to specify the exact relationship of your chosen next of Kin. The Bible only teaches us that Joseph kept her a virgin until after the birth of Jesus (see Matt. 1:18-25 below). Matt. 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Matt. 1:19 Because Joseph, her husband to be, was a righteous man, and because he did not want to disgrace her, he intended to divorce her privately.

John 2:12 Notice that there is a distinction with the biological brothers of Jesus and His disciples. The same word for brothers in Matthew 13:55 is the same word used for brothers of Peter and Andrew in Matthew 4:18 and John 1:40. Well the problem with this is you can't name a brother of Christ without naming a cousin. Also besides all this the same word used for his brethren is used throughout all the Pauline epistles and following that logic... it would be fair to assume that everyone St. Paul wrote to would be blood related.... including to him and Timothy. The word for brother in Greek is used 349 times in the new testament and the definition is literally or figuratively near or remote. It's in every gospel and every epistle and in Acts and Revelation. It's used in 1 Cor 1:1 Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother. This word brother is the same used in Mathew 13 that you pointed out. But is Sosthenes Paul's blood brother? No it's the same exact word used for brother everytime it's used in the rest of Corinthians and every epistle following it. And as a side note. It would have been his blood brothers responsibility to look after the Blessed mother not St. John's. That's whole different discussion but in simple natural terms that would have been what would have happened if our Lady indeed had other physical offspring. Just food for thought no ill will intended

@@adamjackson8664 why do you suppose Jesus entrusted the care of his mother to John rather than his "brothers", as the Bible calls them?
@adamjackson8664
@adamjackson8664 Год назад
@@erikrohr4396 he didn't have blood brothers to do so. Pretty simple Joseph was gone she was a widower and just watched her Son get murdered. He still had to make arrangements for her safe keeping as her only child. I'll return the questions with the same and a additional question. He knew what was going down. Why did he wait to make those arrangements in the last minutes of his life from the cross and why did John find it fitting to include it. Obviously inspired to do so.... but why did God find it fitting to give such a small detail during the greater act of love in all human history

Isn’t it so exhausting to twist Scriptures and come up with the most unreasonable explanations for such creative and unnecessary dogmas? because it’s too late for you Catholics to reject it or change it. I want to encourage you that there is hope! You don’t have to buy into all this.

Sorry, brother, but is more like is not late for you to understand this is what the verses actually mean, that this is the correct teaching of them in true Christianity since Jesus founded His church, while on the other hand, your own heresy [whatever denomination it is] is the one twisting their meaning and fighting against God's word by calling the original sacred texts "unreasonable explanations". These are the teachings of the actual stuff that is there written in the original texts, with the proper context of the times they were written, with the proper explanation of the intent of those words as they were used [historical and etymological], presented with proper study. Saying otherwise is just blasphemous. The moment you give a different meaning to what it is actually written in the Bible [like adelphos, syngeneusin, etc.] and want to twist it to fit your own wicked anti-Catholic narrative, is the moment you should realize who is of the light and truth, and who of the darkness and lies. You are not concerned about facts, nor you care about what is actually written in the original texts, you only care about finding excuses to fight against Catholicism [and you know that's the truth, otherwise you would simply accept the actual meaning and teachings of the texts, as they have been already presented to you, but you want to deny them and refuse to listen].

This is what the Earliest Catholics believed and taught. They were the ones closest to the situation and the time. There was never any question or doubt until a couple hundred years ago when Protestants realized they were losing the argument.

08:15 William Albrecht is incorrect in saying that belief in the perpetual virginity was unanimous amongst the early church fathers. For example, here is a citation of Irenaeus from "Against Heresies 3.21.10): "as the protoplast himself Adam, had his substance from UNTILLED & AS YET VIRGIN SOIL...the Lord took dust from the earth & formed man; do did He who is the Word...rightly receive a birth...from Mary, who was AS YET VIRGIN." Irenaeus compares Mary "as yet virgin" to the "as yet virgin soil," BECAUSE it was "untilled." But once God formed man from the earth, it was no longer "untilled." Likewise, once Jesus was born of the virgin, she was no longer "untilled," just like the soil ceased to be "virgin" once God formed Adam from it. Hegesippus (preserved in Eusebius' Church History) described "Jude, His [Jesus'] brother ACCORDING TO THE FLESH" (Book 3.20). The apostle Paul uses this same wording to describe "Jesus, a descendant of David ACCORDING TO THE FLESH" (Romans 1:3) & "Abraham our forefather ACCORDING TO THE FLESH." Just as Jesus was a biological descendant of King David, and Abraham was a biological forefather of the Jews, which is meant by "according to the flesh," likewise, Hegesippus is saying Jude was a biological brother "according to the flesh." When Eusebius elsewhere cites Hegesippus: "Symeon, cousin of the Savior" (Book 3.11), this is not referring to the same "Simon" mentioned as one of Jesus' brothers in Mark 6:3. This is referring to a different "Symeon, son of Clopas...the brother of Joseph" (Book 3.11). Also, notice how Hegesippus uses "brother" for biological sibling, and "cousin" for non-sibling. Albrecht pointing out that this doesn't include views about Mary by heretics is irrelevant. Yet, he actually bases this dogma on Origen who WAS a heretic, who believed in her perpetual virginity based on the Protoevangelium of James: "The Book [the Protoevangelium] of James [records] that the brethren of Jesu were sons of Joseph by a former wife, whom he married before Mary" (Commentary on Matthew 2:17). So, should we reject the perpetual virginity of Mary, because it was believed by a heretic & based this belief on a false "gospel"? The "brothers" of Jesus in Mark 6:3 are not the same as "the relatives" of Jesus in v.4. "Relatives" in Greek does NOT mean "brothers of a different mother." It is an umbrella term to refer to any kind of relative, siblings or non-siblings. The context determines the meaning. Luke 12:12 & 21:16 even makes a distinction between "relatives" & "brothers" as different groups of people. And, those in Jesus' "household" don't refer to non-sibling "household non-sibling relatives." The comparison between this and Numbers cannot be justified. All Jesus is doing is describing three different groups of people who dishonor Him: those in His hometown who are NOT His relatives who are NOT those in His household. IOW, Jesus' "sisters" are not some sort of "other" non-sibling relative. For one, the Greek word for "sister" (adelphe) and how it is USED IN the NT does not allow for that. It is USED to mean either a believing Christian "sister" or a biological sister. I'm afraid Kappas is taking way too much liberty with the text. Of course the "other Mary" isn't Jesus' mother! Most Protestant apologists don't argue that. Rather, the sons "the other Mary" named "James the Less & Joseph" are NOT the same "James & Joseph" mentioned as two of the four brothers of Jesus. These are completely different men, who have the same common Jewish names. So, these arguments neither support the perpetual virginity of Mary, nor do they disprove Mary lost her virginity after the birth of Jesus to her lawfully wedded husband, Joseph. They also don't disprove she had other children with him. In fact, Scripture affirms it. I covered this in my discussion with my friend Geoff from "a Goy for Jesus," which has timestamps to jump to specific subtopics, like those covered in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TexNvNU-ldM.html
