1. Timeline: how did it develop. What was it that you really needed at that time. 2. Learn to love and accept your body. 3. Realise that you have a choice. I AM CHOOSING to binge eat, to skip that meal , to do or not do something. We do have a choice and are in control. " i know this is not helpful for me but im doing it anyways. Change to i knows this is not helpful for me but this would be more healthier. 4. Eat food that you enjoy 5. Do somthing nice for yourself. Make an effort for yourself now even when you not where you are yet. 6. Validating emotions. What emotions are you escaping or blocking or ignoring with food or in general. What did i feel today? And say thats okay to feel that way. 7. Flexibility training. Let go of perfectionism. 8. Assertiveness.

I had to pause this video to have a long cry because I finally feel seen and not crazy. I've tried to talk to my closest friends and family about this, but they always told me I "probably wasn't eating enough" or that I'm just "lacking certain vitamins or protein" in my diet. I've tried to explain over and over that I eat healthy, balanced meals. I eat breakfast lunch and dinner with a snack and dessert, I go for walks every day. I've been to the doctor and done blood tests and I have no deficiencies. For all intents and purposes, I am a healthy 25 year old woman. But I have this uncontrollable urge to keep eating sweets any time I'm around them. If someone brings cookies into the office, I eat 5. If I go out to a restaurant, I can't cut myself off when drinking and I always order a dessert or two or even three. I'll eat past the point of feeling full until my stomach literally HURTS and feels so expanded and sore. And then I cry because I don't understand why I do it. Having someone put it into words and explain that there can be underlying reasons feels so validating and just makes me wish I'd found this sooner

I am 60 years old. I've had a disordered relationship with food since I was 5 years old. I've 'known' the reasons for many years now, but have not seem to have got past that point. You articulated the reason so clearly in this video - 'I am choosing ...' Yes, I am. Plus the rules and rigid thinking about food. I can now see very clearly what has happened with me. Looking forward to creating a healthy and balanced attitude with the tools you have provided. Thank you!

I definitely need to work on my flexibility training. If I had that milkshake I would probably feel like I might as well go on a massive binge since I ruined the work that I did that day

I use the term 'normal' because although that's impossible to define it's what I find the women I coach resonate with the most. Can a healthy and balanced relationship with food exist? Without rules and willpower? Yes. I see it materialise every week when I'm working with women x

I have never had a normal relationship with food, for over 30yrs I’ve suffered with disordered eating. It stared in high school and college with anorexia and bulimia, with also carried over a some after I became pregnant and had babies, then it turned into binge eating. I don’t know what to do, I’m extremely overweight (bmi of 35) and now with multiple autoimmune diseases the meds are just causing more weight gain! I just feel helpless and trapped in a body that I’ve hated my whole life….

Wow thank you for your video! I need and want to work on a lot of things that popped to my mind without ever thinking about them as a problem while watching your video. And for the first time I feel like it's most important to work on the things that are in my mind instead of constantly working on my body. Excited for this journey... but also scared. Glad there are so many positive and supportive comments. Puzzled by a few of the others. The quality is good and the content is fascinating, clearly articulated, and at a level that's easy to digest (pardon the pun). As a middle aged man with this problem, it felt a little odd watching these vids, but there is not much for men that focuses on the intuitive eating side of things. I'm particular interested in 'some people who think it's not an emotional thing for them, find out it is'. I am convinced my issues are purely physiological, but now I am all ears. Keep going. Great stuff. 👍

Hi there Rachel! I just found your channel a few hours ago and your content is pure gold 😢💕 thank you so so much! I've been struggling with my relation with food since i was a teenager, but lately it just become worse, cause i had a serious problem with my stomach, i could barely eat, i was so sick, and it was for about 3 months, so as you can imagine i lost a lot of weight, and people used to tell me "oh, you look great! Good for you" and i was just like 😑 really? I felt terrible! Now i'm feeling a little bit better every day, and obviosly i am starting to eat more (as it should be) but people seems like "oh no, you looked better before" and it just make me feel awful. But i'm trynna remember the most important thing is my health, not how thin or chubby i look. Honestly i love to work out, and i love to eat food full of nutrients! I just need to remember that how i feel is above how i look😢❤

This video really helped me... A first practical glimpse into the psychology of disordered eating. So many say how psychology is behind it and to ask oneself WHY do I need to do this.. but I was never able to answer that question for myself. Getting some possible answers that others found is so helpful, if only to give an idea of where to look.... Could you do more videos on the topic of what we're different psychological reframes / breakthroughs that helped your clients. The more examples, the greater the clarity....

thank you so much for this. your video helped me realize, after i put my timeline together, that i never actually had a healthy relationship with food. i grew up in an ingredient household where i would binge snack on crackers and chocolate chips all the time and was constantly surrounded by notions of “good” vs “bad” food. your tips have really helped my recovery ❤❤

It’s so hard to eat right !! Especially when you work 2 jobs have kids etc etc…. I never realized I had an eating disorder until now…I’m 42 now and have been in denial so long!! Seeing a therapist now is helping a little….

I'm a large guy, and have only recently been looking at how I've dealt with past trauma. I beat a drug addiction in 2019 with a lot of help, but I'm finding the binge eating harder to deal with since as a human, I do need to eat every day! Thank you so much for this and all of your videos, it articulates a lot of great ideas and helps me to learn how to confront my old ways of thinking. Just a question as well; do you take male clients? I understand if not, but I wanted to be sure!

Do you have an advice for someone that eats to stay awake? I am not a morning person, but I have to work from 8 to 16. In the mornings (before 12) I seem to eat alot, just to stay awake and able to do some work. What advice do you have for me for cut down on morning binging?

Dear Rachael,I'm currently on my intuitive eating journey. I'm (have in past)usually fixated on healthy eating with emphasis on no sugar,flour,dairy and flesh. I feel dairy is not that natural or healthy.But that forbidding it to myself is worse. Naturally,my refrigerator is now full of all above,except flesh,although I did eat fast food a couple of times. I guess I'm calling for reassurance, that this seemingly endless obsession with formerly forbidden foods will subside eventually. Right now I'm eating yogurt for every meal.with butter,sour cream ,bagels.its not balanced at all.

Of course this obsession can subside. There's more than enough hope for that and clients I work with consistently end the same 'food obsession'. This may subside in time or you may need further help to understand your relationship with these foods (sometimes there's a few things going on that can stand in the way). Hey Rachael! The past few days I have been having intense cravings for peanut butter, which I have been honouring, but the craving doesn't seem to die. Why is that so? I did not restrict myself to it. Could this be a sign that my body is not consuming enough fats, that's why it's asking for more?

I'm afraid thats an almost impossible question to answer, as I'm sure you'll appreciate, without knowing the full picture of your relationship with food and health in general. It could be many things from extreme hunger to scarcity mindset to nutrient depletion to emotional eating and more. Im sorry that I am unable to give you the answer based on this. My recommendation would be a few sessions with a professional. It could save you a lot of time and exploration.

Peanut butter and peanuts are addictive to me because they are extremely delicious and fatty. They give me dopamine. I can eat many than suffer of stomach ache and bloating. So i have switched peanut butter to walnut butter/almond butter( less addictive) Let’s don’t forgot that some things were design to be more delicious and our brain love it.

Hi, I hace a question I hope U could help me, I was anorexic girl when I was 10 years old and then I get over it and then I gain weight and become over weight because of binge eating I have for now 4 years. (Now I am 19 years and I reached my heaviest weight ever and I don't like me like this at all) What is first thing U recommend for my status to start my recovery with? And any advice from u could help

My advice would be to explore if you're in quasi recovery and to focus on your emotional world, self esteem and fulfillment in life if you think these may need attention. More than anything I recommend a few sessions with an experienced professional to help give you clarity.

Most of us have actually the problem of not being taught how to choose, so the presence of the choice itself makes it difficult and overwhelming. This western perspective on the freedom of choice is beautiful but not working for dependent people who doesn't want to choose, because it is hard and traumatic, coz' they've been living under controlled environment that made them disabled and let's say BPD or somewhat else. So now we are dealing with a bigger psychological problem...for example addiction (food abuse) as a coping mechanism.

I think binge eating (and all eating disorders) are spiritual afflictions, not physical or even mental. They may manifest themselves physically, mentally emotionally, but at their root they are spiritual and as such, require a spiritual solution.

I get frustrated. I don't binge. I don't stress eat. I want what I want, for the flavor/texture, and I eat it, but I struggle with losing weight. I feel that this is normal but there's no term for it....

What if either choice doesn't feel good. Or I genuinely don't know what to choose cause I'm so fearful. Of eating but also not eating and cause of ana and mia my signals are unregulated.
