omg i agree with everything skjsksjks it looks so cheap like a theater romance production that is produced in 2021 but with 1920 setting it looks ridiculous but strangely very enjoyable, have to give props to the villain for being so annoying that it became fun to watch them suffer and also ML is really charming he literally carried the show lmao

Okay, the trick is to watch this drama like an idol romance drama. Throw out every notion of historical context and just think of it as if it's a modern romance drama in costume

This drama was like once we get married was for Avenuex.......a kinda cheep production but I forgive them coz of the main leads chemistry, also the female lead has a brain and can stand up for herself. Thus my verdict is: I liked it...quite a bit actually😅

I still love the drama. I love evan lin in this drama although he is only 2nd male lead. I love the friendship and the chemistry of the leads. The men are just eye candies in their military uniform. So all in all i was fully entertained watching it.

If you think 'Fall in Love' is bad, at the moment I am watching 'Princess Silver', and wondering if I should get drunk in an attempt to enjoy it or turn it off.

The drama lost me at the filter… Chen Xingxu, Zhang Jingyi, and Lin Yanjun (an idol, no less) are like the prettiest people in Chinese show biz, and the filter somehow manages to “uglify” them by blurring their features. And yes, the CVs take me out of the drama right away. It’s like Wen Kexing and A’Xiang are having an incestuous affair! It doesn’t help that Zhang Jingyi looks so similar to Zhou Ye (who plays A’Xiang).

This review/rant is iconic. Wow, I just really love this channel.

I just turn off my common sense and any historical background knowledge when watching this drama🌚 basically only watching it for Chen Xingxu, he’s just so charming and his acting is really top-notch, I keep pausing every few minutes to admire his posture and gestures and the way he carries himself they’re just so charismatic and attractive xD

I really enjoy this drama. It’s a romance drama set-up as a period drama and the makers are not attempting to make this any thing more than a romance drama. Absolutely love this.

I had already watched the first 14 episodes before listening to your critique. I must admit this drama is one of the ridiculously funny ones but I’m going to continue watching. 🤣🤣🤣 that still you put up of the young marshal taking a shot cracked me up all over again, I actually rewound that part of the drama at the time to watch the scene again while laughing my head off. I’ll stick with it for now it’s entertainment after all.

An idol romance drama set in ROC, is like an idol romance drama set in WW1 or WW2 Poland when it was occupied by Nazi Germany. Like……Yeah. Ok. Sure. Not cringy or offensive at all🥲 Edit: I also don’t think it’s very romantic or sweet to date a military marshal or warlord. A lot of them have massive BODY COUNTS at 4, 5, 6+ digits. Some of them are still good people, but some others are…really not. They can really take the “bad boy” type to a whole next level. It’s just too much for me lol

I really enjoy this drama. Maybe because I don’t take this drama too serious or maybe I need something like that to forget about hard time at work… or maybe both. You just sometimes need some ridiculous or cringe drama to turn off after hard day and that drama is this for me.

It's definitely not a show that is trying to win awards, lol, it's more fan service than anything. It has enjoyable moments, smart leads (even if the plot itself may be dumb or focuses too much on romance), cute faces, and a decent soundtrack. I'm fine with it, lol, although because it's Republican era, I feel like most characters are gonna die. Also, I'm watching it mostly for chen xingxu. He was fantastic in Goodbye My Princess and now he gets to do a less serious drama 🙌🏼 so I'm happy for him 😂

I agree with you with the detail about the haircut... I had the same thoughts when the pictures leaked during their filming. Don't know if they made sure the haircut would retain the actors image as an idol or if he was also making another project that the haircut can't be compromised.

I really feel sorry for Chen and hope that he could be more selective in his future projects. Yes, actors need exposures but a lousy production would do more harm than good to the actors' career.

Omg the second point you made that "if we don't enjoy airbrushing and bright colors", this is something I consciously try to ignore because it makes it hard to take the drama seriously. Why doesn't China production company just start producing romance cartoons. Isn't that cheaper than hiring humans and turning them into cartoons? My grandparents lived in this shitty era and they barely survived. My grandfather ate tree bark to survive. not to mention the constant threat of airplane attacks from the Japanese. the air raid siren still lives fresh in their memories as well as the rush of adrenaline it comes with. they used to talk about it a lot. much more so when we watch films or shows set in this era. life was very rough.

I was excited for this because of chen xinxu(ofc). But after watching the trailer I knew this drama won't impress me like goodbye my princess.

Yeah I'd have to disagree with you for once. I've been in a drama slump since the end of august and this is the first drama that finally got me hooked up. It's just so good ! I would recommend it to EVERYONE.

For Boy eye- candy, you can watch Fall in Love with Him. But it the main lead and the Bleach Blonde co-star that make it Unforgettable.

I love Chen XinXu since Goodbye My Princess and... I did hope that this drama will be one of the best Cdrama this year... I did it is indeed very (I hope will never be upgraded to "extremely") ridiculous and I wonder what's in the writer's mind when he wrote this. But, I will continue to watch this one too, enjoying how good-looking the cast is. I just hope I still can be interested to watch it to the end and no more scenes which will trigger my criminal intention to kill both the writer and director

Love love love this drama. I totally agree with your initial recommendations however the tongue in cheak humour is addictive. Eye candy helps considerably but totally agree with your critic. Agree with everything you said hahaha the actors all look stunning but omg i could not finish the first episode bc of the logic of the plot 🤦‍♀️😂 like girl been in the same room in the ship for probably over a day. How the hail do you not remember the location or double check other room numbers? And how can two strangers both coincidentally have suitcases that look the same? What also got me was when FL and SML didn’t recognize each other. It was only until she successfully gets away from ML’s handcuffs then they meet again… i was like you guys didn’t recognize each other in the freaking elevator??? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 3/4 into the first episode only and I called it quits LOL I’ll probably just check on some clips but thats it.

Probably the most forceful and rude ML I've seen in the first few episodes. It's very unrealistic of the way she reacted to the way she was treated. She witnessed him murdering a woman and then he locked her in the room a few min after. Then he pretty much kidnapped her...all while she acted so very calmly like "oh you know, just the usual"

Pay attention to trends in the past and what happened in the past are also included in the story to make it more related, including tragedies, news, food brands, TV shows, radio, etc. (I appreciate Korean dramas because they can do this, I can always feel the past atmosphere in korean drama, Korean Drama are almost always accurate even if sometime not to)

ngl I was anticipating this drama because of chen xingxu. even though he's not the most typical mainstreamhandsome actor he just has this irresistible charm to me.. so far I am enjoying this drama alot.. even though the first 2 episodes acting / plot / script felt somewhat awkward to me. but really everything else is great.. compared to the lack of good dramas recently this series is a godsend

Actually after watching dramas like The rebel, battle of changsha, even arsenal military academy this drama is totally like a joke but I ignored all these mistakes and consider it as a "Fantasy Republic Era Drama" . Actually people as well as me watching this drama because it also fullfill our dreamy demands like funny but intelligent main lead, strong and bossy female lead and also our crash mr Evan lin. And of a lots of couple 👫 with incoming happy ending. So overall despite this drama breaks all the rules of republic era, we still watching it and waiting for next episodes 😀.

In the elevator scene in first episode I thought: avenuex is going to criticize the girl not asking for help when she didn't have any gun pointed to her back :)

I've started watching it. I'm 5 episodes in. But I'm enjoying it solely for the chemistry between the leads and their characterization so far. I have very sparse knowledge of Chinese history, language, or dubbing voices so it's enjoyable thus far. But I have every intention of watching Too Late to Say I Love You which I don't really want to do right now because that would require too many brain cells usage and probably a box of tissues. I want pure, ridiculous entertainment right now and this seems to provide that

I do agree the technical part are not well done. Choppy editing with striking filters. Action scenes also are not so good with awkward acting. But I can ignore all those, it’s bearable. Why? Because of very interesting plot. Very rare for main characters in chinese historical drama, that actually “lead” and drive the plot. ML and FL are consistently smart and cunning from the first episode until now. We got to see many good productions but the plot and FL characters are meh. Give it try, it does worth!

Yes, the drama is ridiculous and surprisingly I'm enjoying it. I'm not taking it too serious and many things doesn't make sense but I do like the banters between FL and ML, specially how cunning is the ML. I find the 2ML very oblivious about ML blossoming feelings for FL, not realistic but as I said, still enjoyable. I laugh a lot also.

Loving this drama due to Chen Xing Xu (and I learned who Evan Lin is), but I was very confused about the political situation. Saying "two young warlords" helps clarify things. And I'll defend Evan Lin's bangs to the very end! Now I'll need to go watch Crush.
