A good auction result is 1972 Wilt Comspec psa 3... pop across all grades are low, hardly ever sells as most locked up and went for 10.8k (psa 3)... the previous sale for Wilt psa 3 was 400 bucks in 2022... why 10.8k in April 2024? more basketball collectors looking for rare/hard to find basketballs issues... from 1950/60/70's... hardly any basketball issues during that period....

How rare is a card really that is numbered out of 10 when you got the same card also numbered out of 25, 99, 499, 999 and then you got the hundreds of thousands of base that look just like it minus the refractor stuff.

100% agree!!! I only colect topps gilded in baseball for this very reason of low production runs. I still wish even gilded had less parallels, but I guess 5 parallels in an entire production run these days is about as good as it gets anymore.

Wow, a 1/1 card!!! There's no other card like this in the world. It's the only one that will ever be made. I mean, sure, there's 1000's of similar variants and all they did was rearrange a few design elements, create a new color or change out a photo. But this one is mine.

Great discussion. This month a 1996 select certified mirror gold and a 1997 finest embossed refractor Frank Thomas (psa 10) sold for $6,600 and $4,500 respectively. I know these are rare but I don't know if they can go up further than that and I don't know what the price will be in 5-10 years. Not going to be a buyer anywhere near those prices. Kudos to the winners of those auctions though. Great cards.

hey i love listening to these subjects and yalls knowledge. I pc emmitt smith so the "junk wax" era i love to collect bc it is cheaper and the higher price inserts are so awesome. is there a website or such where I can see almost every card produce 1990-2004 his playing years. if not just to keep a record. or a lowkey place to grab alot of singles other than ebay! thank yall and sorry for any confusion

Sport cards have no intrinsic value. They are only worth what someone will pay for them. As long as modern rarities can drive the speculation group, sports cards will attract "investors" who keep the prices up. Sport card collectors should look at the history of the stamp market. It gives you a good view of what happens when speculation leaves a hobby. Great for collectors - disastrous for people hoping to cash in.

Great video! I hope the hobby gets back to true collectors. People who like players, certain rare inserts, or teams. I am truly sick of people just getting into the hobby to make money. Lots have spent huge amounts of money just by someone else telling them who to buy, when to buy, and when to sell. So they leave the hobby because of a huge financial loss. It’s not good! People need to do thier own research instead of watching “influencers”/ content creators. I feel like breakers are slowly weeding out except the huge breakers they might prevail. Way to many inserts when they have about 600-750 Wemby RC’s for one product. How much are those going to be worth 20 years down the road is the real question. I don’t think these making money quick flippers will last to much longer. The hobby isn’t to just make money and I believe in 10 years the only the people who are die hard collectors who love cards for cards not just money will be around. 👇🏼 Griffey>Manning

For ALL cards - they are 30-40% less than their CURRENT value. Look at the S&P 500 market chart or any other stock market chart - we are 30%-40% over valued in ALL things. 30% - 40%

I think its very strange to be in the hobby and you only collect one player… I cant IMAGINE collecting only one player of the MANY greats in sports history.. it makes no sense to me and not sure how connected you can be to a collector that collects many sports cards and players.. just collecting a single player does not connect to me..

I think it’s all about who you connect with. I don’t collect with Mantle, Brady, LeBron, etc, so I don’t collect them.
